Track user habits and know that one chose same way every day instead of 3 minutes shorter one. Offer this route first and if this route is in trouble, stick it with marker (like Avoid, accident!).

Why: every comuter has 2-3 known ways, but instantly taking one of them (no left turn, no zipping on it, no bumbers, allways on main road...) BUT if waze just dont show this road first, we dont know, if its just for one minute time lost (which no one cares), or its major accident there and we should really avoid it.

On urban roads, it often happens that Waze takes me sometimes to narrow roads with bumpers, with lots of traffic lights just to save me a minute of driving.
It's the same on long-distance roads, it takes me to narrow two-way roads sometimes twisting where driving is more dangerous and at night Roads without lighting just to save me 3 minutes.
It should be possible for the user to set a preference for the main roads (which are usually wider with one-way routes) where he will decide if he is willing to travel and extend the time by a certain percentage determined by him (say 10% more time in return for driving on main roads).
I'm a software engineer by profession and know that development is not easy, especially the diagnosis between a "bad" road to its alternative, but it is certainly a feasible task for the Waze team.

Why does the app takle me to the back alley? it has the physical address, so why it consistently takes me to the back alley? It's so upsetting that, while driving lyft or Uber I have to always guess and make sure the damn thing is not taking me to the ally, Jesus, fix this crap!

My route to work takes me to a parking garage that is accessible only from a one-way street. There is a two-way alley behind the building that leads to the one-way street, but it is on the WRONG side of the garage curb cut. Every morning Waze tells me to turn down the alley. If I did, I would have 3 choices, none of which is acceptable: 1. turn left and drive the wrong way on a one-way street; 2. drive on the sidewalk; or 3. go around the block, by-pass the alley and turn on the street that actually leads to the one-way street where the garage is located. None of these is acceptable. Why does Waze insist on telling me to turn into the alley? Just because a two-way alley exists doesn't mean it's a good idea to drive through it, especially when it doesn't lead to my destination. Waze knows the address of the parking garage, and it knows where the one-way street and alley are located in relation to that address. Waze should know that the alley isn't a viable option to access the garage and shouldn't direct users down the alley to get there.

I also have the same problem, been redirecting to small roads and it’s very stressfull. Please add option “avoid small” roads or add vehicle setting (Small/Medium/Big Car). FYI “small roads” in Indonesia is around 3-5 meters wide, big sedans and SUVs don’t fit. I have tried “avoid dirty roads” but still, it doesn’t take me to main/big roads. For those who ride motorcycle, you don’t need to enable this suggested feature since it would be just an option.

I'd like to see a way to have a check-box type setting to turn "shortcuts" on/off. Sometimes I would swear that waze is just messing with me, taking me on zig-zag routes that are in no way faster than just going straight. I don't want to do this.

Quand on décide de ne pas prendre les péages lors d'un itinéraire, serait-il possible de pouvoir choisir entre les routes nationales et les petites routes ( routes départementales voir chemins communaux ) ? car waze prend la distance la plus courte mais il est parfois impossible de rouler a 90 km/h sur des petites routes. merci d'avance et surtout très bonne appli ;-)

I would love an 'easy' or 'direct' routing option that takes you along the most straightforward route regardless of it being fractionally longer than the fastest route. As a lone female driver, I prefer to drive along main, well lit, roads, especially at night, and I'm not bothered if the time taken is longer or the route is farther. Sometimes I just follow the signage and let Waze catch up but it's frustrating if Waze is still routing me to turn around.

On holiday weekends the back roads that waze puts you on are always packed make it possible for 2 people going to the same place or using the same roads to go different ways so traffic doesn't build up on those back roads.

This is still a problem. Because of it, drivers routinely get lost and take 3-5 minutes longer to reach endpoints than they otherwise would.

hmm... found an old post. i think since 2014, our indonesian community never avoid small road. that's because we have a lot of wazer that use motorcyle. just adjust your setting to don't allow dirt road to avoid small road. because we use dirt road to be used for motorcyle.

I am a realtor, and I absolutely don't dare use.Waze in the Chicago area with clients in my car, breakfast they hear Waze say "turn into alley" . Waze is trying to deliver us to the property back yard of a property, not the front door. I read suggestions to tag an alley as an unacceptable driving direction, but for the hundreds of thousands of alleys in Chicago and all the suburbs I drive in? No way.

I agree too... I'm looking to another GPS App, but unfortunately it appears that Waze is still the best one available. I'm so frustrated. Seriously, I'm considering making my own routes at home and printing them, to use them like in the old days. At least I would have a chance to UNDERSTAND the route I'm doing, and not just doing random turns.

Seriously Waze, why don't you implement an option like "PREFER HIGHWAYS AND AVENUES", that's just what I need, I'm no kidding. I live in a really small town, time is not a problem at all sometimes...

need option to avoid alleys. Also in Chicago....there are no addresses on "lower Wacker" Never send to lower.

Now you have only 2 options- .shortest way and shortest time.
What about the simplest way - minimum turns and maximum main roads. I don't care if the way is 2 minutes shorter but I do care that route is full of left turns.

As an Uber driver that is my one complaint with this app. My customers get mad at me. I try to tell them the navigation sent me here. Of course I try to get them to the front of the building but with all the one way streets it's not always very easy.

You need a 'no alley' option.
