Enhance speed display color scheme
It would be easier to assess speed with more informative color coding:
White = below speed limit
Green = speed limit
Yellow = between speed limit and user-defined "when to show alert" speed
Red = exceeding user-defined "when to show alert" speed
Keep current warning with briefly displayed larger speed limit reminder
Great app, thank you!
Hey,
Please note we're changing the status of this suggestion to Currently Not Planned, since we finalized our plans for 2024 and this idea won't be implemented this year.
We hope to include it in our plans for later down the line.
Thanks!

This problem is not only for drivers wearing sunglasses. It also applies to anyone with diabetic retinopathy like me and I suspect anyone who is color-blind. The speedometer is very difficult to read with the reddish on black color combination. I'd like to see an option for the user to pick the foreground color. and the size of the speedometere.

The idea is to change the police, radar and speed warnings.
In the case of speed, instead of just the speedometer turning red, you could put a red border on the app, making it easier to see.
In the case of radar, the warning could be full screen and have a voice prompt warning "Radar is X miles / km away."In case of police warning, follow the same radar rule.

Hi,
I really like Waze, and think that overall you guys are doing a fantastic job. The one feature I’ve never really cared for has been the speed indicator, and the new updates have made it so incredibly bad that I’ve considered using a different app.
Don’t get me wrong, I really like having a speed indicator, it’s just that your current implementation of it is nothing short of terrible. I’d like to be as specific as possible, so please excuse the lack of brevity in this comment.
First, the little highlight in the circle that tells you how close to the speed limit you have is really too difficult for me to use. I’ve damaged my right eye, and my phone is on the right side, so perhaps it’s just my issue, but I think it’s too small to work well. I glance quickly at my display so that I can gather information and get my eyes back on the road. Having such a small indicator requires more than a “glance” to be useful for me.
Second, I often want to know what the speed limit is when driving in unfamiliar areas or places where signs are infrequent, but it doesn’t get displayed until I’ve exceeded it. That’s exactly too late.
Third, when the speed limit is finally displayed, it overlays my actual speed, completely obscuring it. Displaying expected data in such a way that it obscures real data is a terrible design approach, and it makes my brain itch every time.
Fourth, the new design has a pulsing red outline around the speed limit sign and it continually jumps up to cover my actual speed whenever it thinks I’ve exceeded the speed limit. This is bad for a number of reasons. One, it is “movement” and the human brain is design to notice movement and direct the eyes to that location. This then becomes a visual distraction when driving, diverting the driver’s attention from the road (in case it’s not clear, I think that’s bad). Another is that because of the vagaries of the cell and other signals in my area, the GPS keeps calculating my speed as above and below the speed limit – even when the car’s speedometer isn’t changing. With the new design that means the truly awful red speed limit sign keeps appearing and disappearing, pulsing and growing and shrinking. It’s nothing short of awful. Please allow me to make a suggestion for fixing all of this. Put both pieces of information on the display at all times. Keep turning the real speed red when the speed limit has been exceeded, but don’t do more than that. Abandon the animations here unless the speed limit changes. Then temporarily resize the speed limit sign, then return everything to normal. That small change would make this feature truly useful and well designed.
Thanks for listening. -

The Speedometer is very useful to me. But I don't understand why the numbers turn red when speeding. I use sunglasses in my car, even though I have maximum lightness, I just can't see the speed limit. My suggestion is to mark the entire speedometer field with a typical speed limit sign when speeding and continue displaying speed in this sign. If the speed drops, the original speed indication returns.

Speedometer ability to choose colours (foreground & background) and able to set over speed controls (ie. normal colour at or under speed limIt, change speed colour to amber if between 0-15km over, change speed colour to red if over +15km, etc)

I think that this is a good approach. Use a single icon to reduce clutter.
Drivers want to be alerted if they exceed the speed limit and immediately know what the posted limit is.
Making the speed icon larger would also make it easier to read.

Have a big speed icon that fills screen completely and changes colour when you are over speed limit.
Great when you know where you are going ( no need for nav and maps) but you want to more easily see speed changes and manage speed and avoid fines.
Tiny speed icon can be hard to see.

On Carplay i have been told apple doesnt allow showing the current speed so you cant see how fast you are going. The warning sound is there but only once and you dont see if you are ok or not.
My idea would be to change the max speed sign in carplay to full red with the max speed in it so you see you are exceeding the limit. Then back to the normal colours when you are ok again. Safes some speed tickets, especially in the zones with speedlimits for a certain track or time. -

A continuous BIIIIIIIIIIPPPPPPPP while over the limit would be great too. (configurable on or off)
Um BIIIIIPPPPPP continuo enquanto estiver acima do limite seria interessante (configurável ligado ou desligado)

That’s great idea. I was just looking for that.
I never speed on purpose but I’ve just picked up a fine because I was distracted by a car in front that didn’t have its lights on. Unnecessary.
This Waze feature could prevent this happening again.
Please implement ASAP. -

Hi there, I love the current visual (red) alert plus beep to reminder us that we are currently driving above the local permited speed limit. But I´d like to improve it for drivers like myself the do not pay much attention for the spped limits, specially at city areas where they change all the time in accordance to the city zone areas. My suggestion is to allow the user to decide what kind of behaviour this "above speed limit" alert will sound like:
1- Default: Keep it as it currently is (change color + short beep).
2- Hard drivers: change color (to RED) + constant beep until you return to drive under local speed limit. That is it. I hope to see this modification implented sooner on WAZE.
Best Regards,
Pedro Santos Jr.

hello, can you add an option: an indicator of acceleration in the form of a bargraph going from green to red which would signal our acceleration rate which would allow to adopt an economic and less polluting driving by limiting our accelerations

Blink the screen if the speed is above the limit, and/or ability to set or save your own alert

The speed traps need more visibility. I constantly have to check the phone sharply to see the little speed cam flashing just a little but and the acoustic is not always assured.

I wanted to propose the same thing.
I add : continius or frequent alert with the red possible by user choice

Like many other men, I am color blind. I can read the current speed just fine until I go over the maximum speed. Then the font changes color and the current speed becomes unreadable, due to my color blindness. Can you possibly change the font color or background color so that it is also readable for people that are color blind?

Can you please make the speed indication stay white until the speed limit is exceeded. If I am at the limit I do not need a red warning indication as I am not breaking the law and so don't need red alert. Indication should be red when I am over the speed limit i.e. when I need to be alerted so to take some action.

Speed gauge should remain white on black when speed limit exceeded. This way can be better read in sunny conditions. When the numbers change to red, often it cannot be seen, which is frustrating. Thanks.
