A button for HOV or non-HOV
There should be a button to tell Waze whether the car is in the HOV lane. 1), it would help Waze better determine traffic speed since it wouldn't average Wazer's in the HOV lanes with the speeds of those driving slower. 2), the Map would/could show the average speed of HOV or non HOV speeds. A Wazer in the HOV lane could really impact the accurate speed average shown (and vice versa).
Great thinking! The issue you raised has been addressed in a recent redesign. Hope you like it!

As many have mentioned, Waze desperately needs a switch in settings to indicate whether your vehicle is HOV compliant so it can determine whether a certain route is faster if it knows you can use HOV lanes. I would take it one step further and suggest a checkbox on the main map to let Waze know whether you are currently in an HOV lane so when it calculates the speeds of the traffic flow, it understands which cars are in the HOV lane (normally too close to other lanes for GPS to figure out the difference and truly understand which lane you are in).

How do they not have an HOV component yet? It is so frustrating! I never know if I should trust the re-routing advice. Sometimes I do and as I drive away I see the HOV lane zooming past the log jam. Ugh!

The Washington State Department of Transportation now provides real-time toll rates for the I-405 express toll lanes as a publicly available live data stream for software developers. The API is publicly available here: http://wsdot.wa.gov/traffic/api/ , along with several other live data streams including traffic flow, travel times, and highway cameras.
We would love to see this data integrated into the Waze app to help drivers make more informed choices about their route options.

The user should simply check a box for "carpool/HOV eligibile". Some areas have dedicated roads separated from the main highway (Houston apparently), others have designated lanes (San Francisco, for example). The former can't drive on the chosen route (similar to "avoid toll roads"), and the latter will get unrealistic drive times. Waze could be able to deal with either situation off of one setting.

I drive in Houston. I have stopped using Waze because it always directs me to the HOV lanes! I drive alone. Please make an HOV option in settings.

In quebec, many roads are avaible only if you are 2 or more persons in car. It may change fastest road. Maybe an option ''use carpool lanes' should be great

Add an HOV/express/toll lane feature for users to check when using these lanes for improved routing.

HOV ONLY, more specifically. Waze can not tell which lane a car is in, yet, due to the inaccuracy of the GPS it uses. Soon this will be possible, but TRUCK ROUTES, yes, in the Washington DC area, this is of extreme importance. Many routes in and out of DC limit the use of trucks, and Waze does not currently support this feature, but it should.

Needs an HOV on/off button. We carpool and use the HOV lanes. Waze could make better calculations if this was accounted for.

I'm in Houston and can't use the HOV lane. Waze keeps trying to route me onto the HOV. It's making the app almost unusable. If it's not addressed soon, I will probably switch to another app. It's a shame, I love waze otherwise.

Make it available to avoid HOV lanes. I get routed to use them and I can't. So the best route for me can't be met.

I was taken to a HOV lane only on ramp and I am not a HOV driver. This was the only lane option to get on the freeway at this entrance. I had never been on this on ramp and thought there must be a regular driver lane next to it, there wasn't. It was Friday afternoon traffic and we were going pretty fast and I wasn't paying as close attention as I should have ( was in an important convo) and suddenly as I realized I'm in this "only" lane I couldn't make my way out of this lane and now I'm stuck in this HOV only onramp with a $461 ticket option waiting for me if I get caught by a cop. Thank god I did not, but I did get a ticket via the camera. Not only did this cause me undesirable stress while swiftly getting out of this lane before getting caught, but I'm stuck with $25 ticket, yes it's only $25, but would prefer not to pay this ticket at all. Please make an announcement, and stress this is an ONLY HOV lane or make it available o Waze to option in or out of HOV. Thank you

I was on my way to work and Waze put me on the gridlocked freeway and instructed me to move to the far left to the hov or hot lane which would have been nice if I had more people in my car to qualify for that lane.

It should be added as this is valuable feature

Offer a commuter option check box, to tell Waze that you have multiple passengers in the car, and will be using the commute lanes available on your commute. Waze would use current traffic data to recalculate your commute based on commute lane availability.

Show the route times based off of current Wazers using HOV/Carpool lane(s).
List the option as an additional route to possibly entice people to consider carpooling more often.
