Improve road detection while navigating
When navigating along roads that have service/access roads, the navigation will want to enter the freeway/highway/tollway/etc. If the driver stays on the access road or exits onto the access road, Waze does not detect that and keeps the location locked to the planned route. If Waze wants to route you onto a freeway/highway/tollway/etc. and you do not take the on-ramp, the app locks onto the planned route and thinks you are on the highway.
It would be nice if, when there are multiple parallel roads, that the app reduces the distance over which it will snap to a road. Another clue to the app would be if, when I stop at a stop light (or 2?) on the service road, the app then gives preference to the service road instead of the highway for current location/routing. Especially if there are other wazers that are on the main highway and traveling the posted speeds.
This will also reduce possible un-needed slow down prompts/reports to other users.

We have this same problem in Toronto on Hwy 401 (the busiest highway in North America). I also presented this problem to Waze staff at the Canadian meet-up in 2019.

Maybe an extra feature to force this.

I strongly agree! I often suffer from the opposite problem: when I ignore Waze's suggestion to exit the highway, it still mistakenly believes that I am on the service road.
The "RAW GPS" option lets you see that the app knows your real location, but it chooses to stick to the suggested route. A "redetect" button would help a lot!

Would be great if this is fixed. I have kill the app and restart it so it would correctly detect where I am.
A simple solution could be to add a button for “redetect” current location. -

This is a big issue for me, in dense cities. In one spot I have an elevated freeway which sits above a Major hwy, which is flanked by a service road street. This is six segments parallel (not counting ramps and slip road AGC segements).
Ever since starting to use waze I've been asking for a method to force the app to snap to a different segment. Perhaps a gesture swipe or a button and then a swipe to choose from a zoomed in overlay, etc.

It happens always in big cities. I think at this time there are too many "polluted" segments at least in Mexico City. I think this is important, because by now is affecting the routes the app give to the users. Every time i find more and more URs complaining of a non logical route (when the central lanes are free, waze insists on taking the frontage).
