Navigate shortest route
With the new update you all took away the option to search by shortest route available or Fastest route available. Please bring this function back.

Another in favor of shortest route options. Waze does not seem as accurate as it once was, and multiple times has wanted me to take a route nearly five miles longer when it could send me the shorter way in the same amount of time. A user needs to be able to choose the shortest route, then measure that against the potential extra time it takes. Thanks Waze.
Shortest route - put it back on you stupid idiots it's simply a navigation basic must have - unbelievable!
With this shortest route option unavailable I am switching to another application.

This really needs to come back. And bizarrely seems to have affected normal routing. Waze seemed more accurate and even its fastest routes wasn’t overly a long distance, now they all are long drives.
I also drive an electric and a lease car and each mile counts.
Bring shortest route back...

I wish I had a choice on quickest or shortest routes. I guess we used to have that a long time ago. But today, 10/17/2019, we don't. It kept making me take the longer, slower route and gave me no option to take the quick interestate route that cut the time in half. So now I use the Mapquest app, because Google map does the same thing. I see no choices on either on a choice.

I agree. Waze kept telling me to take hwy 1 to go from Wells, ME to Portland (a 29 mile drive that takes an hour). Instead, we had to look at a real map and talk to people to figure out it is better to take I-95, which is only 30 miles away and takes 30 minutes. Once I got smart, I asked Waze to find I-95 and then I found my way to our hotel. Mapquest, however, shows you directions for I-95. Maybe Waze takes you the long way because hwy 1 was no tolls and I-95 charges a toll (a whole $1 LOL).
Please make shortest route option, because I pay for car usage not by time, but by travel distance.

Rather than just having the option of avoiding tolls, have an option that shows how much time would be saved by using toll roads. Also, how much time would be lost by taking the least complicated route versus the fastest route.

As a driver of an electric vehicle,
I often want to be able to select the shortest route in a navigation app,
So that I can sacrifice time in favor of electricity to get to my destination,
This is important because the fastest (time) route often uses a lot more electricity (longer distance and higher speed). It could risk me not being able to make it home or a charging station.
Often, a couple of minutes saved using “the fastest route” isn’t worth the extra distance (& perhaps, related expenses) which sometimes can be substantial, sans the ideal situation of keeping the option for “shortest route” (provided, of course that it in turn does not significantly jeopardize apps efficiency).

Not sure if the automated car and litigation in US are a cause of this. In US some cities in NJ have sued GPS companies with big pockets (Waze is owned by Google) and other that local traffic has gotten worse as GPS is now routing traffic through local roads. Also looks like as a part of Automation they are removing simple u turn or evening taking a smaller side street to take u turn to make travelling smoother (avoid unexpected accidents etc), this in turns results in stupid routes in some places.
I US, I see in the name of security and company bottom line, sadly user flexibility and choice are being removed every where (for eg, see windows 10 users have no say when updates occur or which updates they want).
I truly believe empowering users and giving them options is the way to go and not take away options. Giving options will get a company loyal customers
Since the shortest is not there, I am forced to use google maps.
Agreed!! WAZE no longer updates my route as I drive unless I search routes periodically. Not good to have eyes off the road so often! What happened?
I full agree, 50% more distance for 1 minute less is not worth it ! The algorithm should be improved on this or an option to avoid this cases
Please add shortest route feature
With bigger vehicles it is often true that lots of stopping and starting causes poor fuel consumption. The shortest route might therefore be more costly to take than a longer route, should the shorter one have a lot of stops and starts in it.
Sometimes a 5 minute longer trip but with a saving on fuel cost makes lots of sense, especially if you start to multiply the daily cost saving by 20 or so working days.
If a user of Waze has for example three fields to completed – ave open road fuel consumption, ave open and city road consumption, as well as ave city only consumption – then you can create algorithms to predict which route will be the more fuel efficient.
The user can then decide if a shorter route with a higher fuel cost is better on the day or a longer one with a cost saving would be preferred.
So similar to “alternative routes” you can add “most fuel efficient route according to your vehicle’s ave”. Obviously there are too many vehicles and different driving styles to expect of Waze to prepopulate on published manufactures figures. So each users must just add his own vehicles 3 sets of figures once (or once for every vehicle he drives with). After that Waze applies the algorithm in line with the users own entries.
So the algorithm for the three ave would take into account
1 - minimal stop and go
2 – a few stop and go
3 – a lot of stop and go
If this shortest route option is not brought back, ideal for 'green laning' by 4x4 drivers who are more intersted in quirky routes than speed, then I shall have to find another app, or reluctantly just use the phone default which comes up with google mapping when an address link is given on a phone. The latter saved retyping but it used to be worth it. I used to write and edit the map and comments and have made many additional edits that being local to me I was far more familiar to. You have spoilt the fun of driving 4x4 by changing the Waze community app. Its now no longer better than any other standard get there fast map.
One of the updates seems to have removed the option to choose shortest route instead of fastest route. There are times I would rather take the country roads instead of staying on the interstate - ESPECIALLY when the interstate is showing extensive delays. Many times how when I check routes to find another way it doesn't offer any other option. But I check my Garmin that is in my car and it shows options. I like Waze but it seems that the functionality I liked is going away, including warnings and rerouting for construction or traffic issues. Today I encountered both and Waze did not reroute or even acknowledge the slowdowns.
Waze navigation has always been horrible, in my opinion. I like the Road Hazard/Police etc. reporting functionality, but the mapping is not ideal by any means. Google Maps navigation is perfect...awesome...never a problem. I vote that Waze offer Google Maps navigation within their settings as an option!! That would make it the ideal navigation app!!
