Voice ads instead of popping ads that would block the navigation screen.
Hi Waze team, have an idea/suggestion...
Instead of popping out ads during users’ navigation, why not let the Voice Direction narrate the ads? So it would be a voice ad, like in the fm radio. And you can also add a cute lil “go-to” button on the navigation screen so users can tap on it and gets navigated to the shop/advertiser if applicable and necessary.
Reason being is; when you pop out ads while users are navigating, typically it would block the navigation screen, and users would just:
- either ignore with hopes that the ad would go away quickly and they won’t miss out any junctions
- or ignore as they’re focusing with their eyes on the road
- or tap on the navigation screen so the ad would be closed, which causes unnecessary hassle when the driver needs to drive
If a voice-ad were to be implemented, potential outcome would be;
- users would listen and pay attention
- users would be happier as it doesn’t block the navigation screen
- they would be more interested in the ad as it’s more convenient
Things to look out for to implement this;
- voice ads can only be played for a short period of time, (ie; 5secs), make it catchy!
- voice ads have to be played when the next junction is at least approx 2mins away (ie; when users are 2km away from next junction/turn with standard speed)
Not sure if this has already been implemented, haven’t seen it in my country yet. If this is already in place, look forward for it to be in my country!
Goodluck guys!
Thank you for your suggestion! We try to make our ads as useful as possible to Wazers. An ad-free version is not planned for the near future.

I would give this idea negative votes if I could. The existing ads in Waze are bad enough; voice ads would make the situation a thousand times worse. Waze has made it very clear that they do not care about user experience in regards to ads, so there's no way they would allow users to opt out of voice ads -- they'd be forced on everyone. I've begrudgingly suffered through the popup ads and sponsored pins, but I would have to stop using Waze entirely if it started shouting ads through my speakers.
Despite thousands of users asking for years for the ability to PAY to get rid of ads, we're still stuck with them, and any time someone publishes a new way for users with rooted devices to get rid of ads, Waze pushes out an update that either evades the technique or, if that's not possible, makes the app kill itself rather than continue without ads. They're not just ignoring user feedback, they're actively devoting resources to make sure that ads are as intrusive as possible. They WILL screw things up if they ever implement audible ads.

Permit everything to be verbalized during travel including the ads.
Show them and everything as now, but also verbalize.
