Good god, how difficult is this really?
Allow us to lock the Zoom and Direction. It seems so utterly simple, at most 3 programmer days and 3 QA days.

The lack of these features just make the navigation unusable.. I have missed SEVERAL turns just because I wasn't sure what direction I am going and where I need to go (and the GPS was with no reception for a few seconds, so the alert wasn't raised).

Just like others, I rely on other navigation apps because of this, and just use Waze for way alerts.

Is this what you want from your users?

Make north setting sticky.

This is my number one feature change. If there's a way to lock north up on the iPhone, I'd sure like to know how -- even if it were only session specific. If I turn auto-zoom off, I can get it to stay up for a while, but as soon as I manually zoom in or out, the map starts spinning around again.

just got my iphone, and the lack of built in navigation app led me to waze. about to uninstall because it keeps changing from "north up" to car heading.

I agree with the sentiments voiced here by others. The rotating map is THE most annoying thing about Waze, and I would put all my votes on this feature request if I could.

PLEASE listen to your users and add this as a feature! Waze is such a fantastic app in every other way. Just let people have the choice of "north up" or "heading up" as a fixed preference setting, then everyone will be happy.

To bad I cannot vote this one up with my seven votes.. it it the *one* anoying thing about the app, having to set map-north-up over and over again. Please make it a map settings option.

For centuries north up has been a standard. Direction of travel orientation is a machine made trick that makes people dependent on machines because one never learns positional relationships of roads landmarks etc.

North up shouldn't just be "persistent between sessions," it should be a navigation settings option so you can have North-up as the default just like every standalone GPS unit these days can. Many apps do this, too, but Waze doesn't. This applies to the iPhone version, too. It's quite irritating when you're part of "the other half" that actually has a sense of direction and you want to see where you're going relative to north.

I have to add one last detail to my comment. I don't turn a map upside down when driving South. I don't turn a map clockwise or counter clockwise while going East or West.

I am with Peter Maxfield. I want to use all my votes for this one. When I use a paper map, or even Bing, Google, USGS websites; geographic North is always at the top by default. Not having this option drives me CRAZY. Seems this idea/request/suggestion has been online for over 10 months now. I'll have to abandon this app if this isn't added by March 1st 2012. Sorry.

+1 for a setting to lock that. And also for "North Up doesn't even stay that way within a session."

Add another vote for the north-up lock. Otherwise, this is a great app. Lack of this setting makes me want to find a better app.

Please come up with a way to lock the compass to north=up. It reverts to the other mode if you just touch the screen or drive for a bit.

Yeah, this is the one thing I HATE in WAZE. I don't always want it just following me, and I like using the map, not just seeing where I'm going.

Agree with suggestion. I would like the be able to double tap the north arrow and have it lock. like the Caps lock.

Agree with request. I prefer map orientation as North up, not direction of travel up. Frustrated that even after selecting North up, map often automatically switches back to direction of travel as up within a minute or two.
