🚗 Concept Overview

I’d like to suggest a feature for Waze that would significantly improve driver safety and comfort, especially in regions with poor road conditions.

1. Allow users to mark road defects on the map — potholes, bumps, uneven joints, temporary obstacles, or dangerous transitions between lanes or surfaces.

2. Provide voice alerts with lane-specific advice:

“Pothole in 50 meters. Keep left.”

“Speed bump ahead. Slow down.”

“Uneven surface on the right lane.”

3. Display small, non-intrusive icons on the map to indicate these hazards.

🔄 Improve Current Pin Behavior

Currently, when adding reports like “Police” or “Hazard,” the system shares it with all users by default.

I suggest the following enhancement:

By default, user-added hazard markers are visible only to the person who added them.

After placing the marker, the app prompts the user:

[✔️] Share with other users

[ ] Keep private

This helps:

Prevent cluttering the map for other drivers.

Reduce excessive voice alerts.

Allow users to tailor the experience to their own needs.

Add a new settings section:

With individual toggles for:

[ ] Potholes and cracks

[ ] Speed bumps

[ ] Uneven surfaces or joints

[ ] Only verified reports (from multiple users)

[ ] Only on route / City only / Everywhere

I hope the upgrade includes an automatic report to the local roads authority. In New South Wales that is one body https://tinyurl.com/2aebeyqo so it covers many incidents.

The busier the road the more people are affected and the more frequently they encounter the same pothole. Consequently, motorists can be ready to report the pothole as they approach it on each occasion.

Provide pothole report data for users re particular road (to be defined) over given time (to be defined). This would help with claims for damages caused by poor road maintenance, particularly if needed for court purposes. Redacted data if needed of course.

Without this suggestion, several fatal accidents could occur (if it already occurred)

In Brazil have a lot of humps that is used to avoid high velocities. I suggest to WAZE show it like a danger alert to unwarned drives. At night these humps could cause a fatal accident.

In a country like Jamaica potholes are neglected for months to even years. Please add a persistence timer by certain amount of confirmation if it is there or not like 10 reports to persistence or 10 reports that it’s no longer there. Thanks. In jamaica there are at least 3 pothole on average per 10km

Waze is more and more often being used beyond basic navigation. It's now a safety tool. We marked dozens of potholes on a recent Friday tip into the country only to find none of these still marked on Monday. Why are these not available until marked as not there? Please change. Potholes are expensive and warning they are ahead is very convenient

Local speed limit is 25mph, speed “bumps” are huge and poorly marked. Have to slow down at or below 5mph to safely cross. An unknowing motorcycle rider will be over the handlebars. Please allow these to be marked!

Malaysian has a thousands permanent humps, mostly there are no signs for non-main roads. With a alert or sign, this will help the driver to prepare to go through it.

Potholes don't magically go away and frequently take days or weeks to be repaired. They are often difficult to spot and have potential to do damage. Unlike other report types eg police, roadworks closures etc which are much more likely to be temporary or able to be put in place for extended periods potholes are there til repaired

I frequently report potholes on the route and end up reporting the same hole the next day for weeks at a time before they are repaired. The road is well travelled and from my impact report I can see they are seen by many users yet they still get removed within a day (I've even reported the same hole multiple times a day).

Unless someone is maliciously reporting them as not there then the report removal doesn't seem to be working correctly. Either extend the amount of time without a still there report or change so they are only removed by a not there report.

Add an option for multiple potholes on a piece of road e g 50 meters of potholes as our roads are in a horrible state

Guys, London has become a nightmare. They simply are not repairing the network of asphalt. Many potholes and some very dangerous. Please keep the alerts of potholes until people start to vote they are not there anymore. What is the point to indicate a pothole if within 24h you remove them ? Pointless. In London, they take ages to repair a pothole.

Please consider sending pothole data to 311 agencies across the United States.

When clicking on hazard, potholes, on road, later, change the icon left top on screen to that of a pothole. When clicking on that icon, immediately drop it on the map and keep the icon there. This will improve accuracy and prevent unnesacary time wasting. When clicking on hazard, pothole, on the other side, later, make an icon on the right top of screen and also keep it there after clicking on it. Add the word "other side" to the icon. Make it possible to have both icons simultaneously. Maybe to prevent accidental postings, have this feature only available for users with a certain rating of accurate postings.

Exactly! Potholes don’t go away overnight, it could take years for them to be repaired in my area.

We need a dedicated quick button for indicating potholes much more safely and rapidly. Thank you.

The functionality to specifically report potholes for fellow wazers, and once reported on Waze, that this gets sent to the Roads department for resolution. Only once actioned by Roads department, then the item is removed... This would greatly assist the community in not just avoiding damage to vehicle, safety for accidents, but also hopefully improve communication regarding our roads with the relevant departments...

Potholes are ongoing until they're repaired. Please make them permanent until voted off.

Come to Ukraine! Here potholes are aplenty AND often reported in Waze.
It's a feature that I love in Waze and use myself.
You can report potholes under "Hazard", "On road"; select "Pothole"...
