'Get rid of the 'ding' sound when a hazard alert happens (pothole, car on the side of the road, etc.)' has been merged into this idea

PERMANENTLY disable sounds including after updates

Stop turning the damn sound/ voice back on with every f-ing update. We turn that crap off for a reason and I am getting tired of resetting the sounds to OFF with every f-ing update!

    This was an idiotic change. Bring back voice which tells you what the alert is. With the ding it means you have to look at your phone plus the sound itself it annoying.

    This is obviously not done for the sake of user experience but I can't quite understand what waze get out of it. It's not like it's ad-related or anything. Maybe it will be in the future? (eg you'll get audio ads when you're stopped)

    Not in the same wording, but I do get frustrated everytime my radio gets interupted for every turn once an (auto) waze update was installed. I like visual navigation aid only and would like that preference not to be forgotten after each new version.

    would you intentionally upset customers by doing this REPEATEDLY???

    If you ask me for my preference and I tell you, I expect you to care about what I tell you.
    By ignoring my preference you are telling your customers that you don't care about them.
    That is not very Googly!!!

    i use it in alert only mode, and i know there was an a update when it's starts navigating me around :S

    How is his not considered a bug? No other program tries to second guess the user like this and re-enable sound. Stop punishing the 99% of users who really want the sound off for the sake of the 1% that are too stupid to remember they muted it!

    I don't know how many times we've settled in for a road trip, pull up to a light, baby has just dozed off in her seat, and just a few moments after tapping the destination, "LETS GET STARTED" blares over the stereo. Hugely frustrating.

    Oh how I agree. I'm sick of turning off the sounds, only to have them randomly switch back on, usually when I'm in the middle of a call, but sometimes also just when I activate Waze. I never, ever want Waze to speak to me and would just like the 'sounds off' switch to work.
