Prioritize Full CarPlay Integration: HUD & Instrument Cluster Directions

Hello Waze Team,

This post is to strongly urge the prioritization of full integration with Apple CarPlay to enable turn-by-turn navigation on built-in Head-Up Displays (HUD) and digital instrument clusters.

This remains one of the most critical safety and convenience features missing from Waze, and it's a primary reason why many drivers reluctantly switch to Apple Maps when using CarPlay.

The Technical Framework Exists

We understand that enabling this feature is entirely possible within Apple's provided framework. The process is initiated by implementing the mapTemplateShouldProvideNavigationMetadata(_:) delegate method. By returning true from this function, Waze can signal to CarPlay that it is ready to supply the necessary navigation metadata for the car's native screens.

Broad Vehicle Compatibility

This isn't a niche request. An extensive and growing list of vehicles from major manufacturers already support this feature for Apple Maps and would immediately benefit from a Waze update. Implementing this would instantly improve the Waze experience for drivers of:

  • Acura: Integra, MDX, RDX, TLX, ZDX
  • Audi: A4, A5, A6, A7, A8, E-Tron GT, Q4 e-Tron, Q5, Q5 e, Q7, Q8, Q8 e-Tron, S3, RS 3
  • Bentley: Bentayga, Bentayga Hybrid, Continental GT, Flying Spur, Flying Spur Hybrid

The "litmus test" is simple: if a car can show Apple Maps directions on its HUD or instrument cluster, it can show Waze directions, too—once you enable it.

By implementing this feature, you would be delivering a massive quality-of-life and safety upgrade to a huge portion of your most loyal users. We are eagerly awaiting the day we can use our favorite navigation app with the full capability of our vehicles.

    Not working on 2025 Hyundai Santa Fe app updated no heads up display for directions. HUD works with Google and Apple Maps. Not Waze

    Still waiting for this feature. I love Waze, but now that I have a new car with a heads up display, I may have to stop using it due to the lack of Waze integration.

    I would appreciate seeing this feature in my Ford vehicle with iOS. It’s already available in Waze for Android, so it should be a no-brainer.

    Until this option becomes active, I have to rely on either Apple Maps, Google Maps, or factory navigation for safety reasons.

    Would love to see this in VW ID 6 models. Google Maps now work with HUD and instrument cluster. I don’t see why Waze shouldn’t do it. Please make navigation tips on the HUD screen via CarPlay.

    GMaps have this working now (Mercedes), and it’s a reason I often have to move away from Waze which is otherwise my preferred choice.

    This would be a great feature and a huge enhancement to safety for those that have the equipment.

    GMaps start working on Volkswagen ID series, unfortunatly Waze not working turn-by-turn and HUD. Please focus on CarPlay instrument cluster metadata asap. We are need this over a world.

    Dear Waze Team,

    I would like to request support for turn-by-turn navigation display on the Head-Up Display's (HUD) via Apple CarPlay in Hyundai vehicles.

    As I can see this feature is on the waiting list without any change long time. however more and more more cars have HUD this feature is more essential for now. Thank in advance

    Hey Waze - please work on this. I love you. I want to stay with Apple and CarPlay. I don't get why this is an issue? This is like making me choose a favorite child. It's 2025, I hope you'll be able to sort this out.

    Today I discovered that using Google Maps on carplay in my Kia EV9 also shows directions on my headup display. I don't understand that Waze still hasn't implemented this? I'm now comparing Apple maps with Google maps to see which my new standard gps will be. Really a pitty because I was always happy with Waze... I will probably use Waze again when this is implemented...

    I always come back to Waze, but right now this single feature is the one that has me going to Apple Maps or, ironically, Google Maps. Apple Maps has started crowd-sourcing speed traps. How long till Waze falls behind? Waze fails to innovate and develop new features. Enough funny voices, add the features expected by users to stay relivent.
