Never giving access to contacts. I loved Waze, too.

Some of my contacts that has a waze symbol next to the telephone number has disappeared.why does waze delete the telephone number to contacts in my telephone address book and then put a waze logo next to name

I do not share my contacts - period. See ya Waze!! Loved the app, but won't be using it anymore:(

Deleted Waze...

I have loved using waze. Last week, it suddenly stopped working. When I tried to open it, it would start going to the waze screen but then it would back out. I searched online for a solution and someone suggested re-installing it, which I did. I got uncomfortable when it wanted to know my location even when the app isn't open. But I kept going. When it asked for access to my contacts, I froze in my tracks. I tried to bypass it a couple of different ways and when I couldn't do it, I deleted the app. I presume waze must need money and they want to scan our contacts for some reason that will provide them revenues. I would actually be happy to pay for waze in lieu of giving access to my contacts. But there's no way I will ever give them access to my contacts.

I agree with many of the postings here. I will not share my contacts with waze. I loved the previous version of waze, but when I got a new phone, waze asked for my contact info. I've searched and there doesn't seem to be a way around it. I really liked the app but based on this I'm deleting it!

Used it some time ago, found it to be useful ( somewhat). Decided to give it another shot and was mortified about how much this little gps app wants to know about me and most importantly wants and will share about me. Contacts? Camera? Microphone? Why? Deleted and will never come back to.

I have enjoyed the use of your app for many years. I believe I favor the notion that motorist are looking out for each other by spotting and reporting hazards to their fellow drivers. Quite recently your app has decided that for it to do it's job (getting me from point "A" to point B) requires access to my contact list. I don't know about anyone else, but this inquiring mind wants to know why. Why would my contact list be a necessary component in determining my present location and then calculating my next destination. I have dear friends who sit beside me in my car and if anyone of them were to ask me if they could arbitrarily go through my phone, (looking through my contact list) I would assuredly have to say..., NO. With that said, why would I allow a total stranger (your app) the opportunity to rummage through my personal contact list without a clear explanation as to why? No other driver assistance app requires/demands access to my contact list in order to assist me in getting to my next destination. I will miss the use of this app but I will not allow you or anyone free rummage rights within my phone.

Deleting Waze. Asking for Contacts is way beyond the pale. Keeping what little privacy I have left.

Just deleted Waze because it asked for contacts.

I am dropping Waze. I don't want to grant access to my contacts. I feel abused as a long term user.

I'm with everyone else not sharing my contacts I love the app but that's certainly a deal breaker. i don't know about everyone else but I have hundreds of contacts and its not just a few family members that would understand, I have business associates, etc it wouldn't be completely unprofessional for anyone to send anything to any of my contacts without my knowledge can't take that chance, damn.

Easy to fix. If you have your contacts shared over the air, iCloud, gmail, etc. turn them off and delete them from your phone. Then toggle the contact sharing on for Waze. Sign in to the app and you will be sharing 0 contacts. Once the app is set up, go into the phone's settings and toggle sharing contact with waze off. Now turn your cloud contact list back on. Voila contacts sharing bypassed.

Quit adding to my Contacts.

I am not sharing my contacts either. Anybody know of a replacement app?
