Making it a requirement is shady. I don't think there is some hidden agenda, I think it is a pretty clear agenda. Data is a profit center for most businesses and they should not try to hide it. If you want my data, ask. IF I agree - great, if not - move on to the next user. I'd rather pay for the app and have the option. They should be more forthcoming. App deleted and I am a bummed exWazer!

This was a helpful app. Very sorry I have just deleted it. No way I am allowing access to my contacts. It would be simple enough to make that an optional feature - the fact that there is no option makes it clear to me this is a transparent effort to mine data. Very disappointing and seems a shoddy way to treat the public. I'll go search for a completing app that doesn't have the same invasive approach.

You're all idiots. It wants access to your contacts so you can search for "Mom" in Waze and have it know how to navigate to it. Stumbled upon this den of idiocy while trying to figure out why Waze COULDN'T do this.

Okay, so if I get a burner phone with no contacts, create a Waze account there, disable account synchronizing, then sign into the same Waze account on my primary phone.... Seriously?!? Is this what it takes in order to use the app without forking over my little black book? Stunning. Even if I do all this, I still don't know if I'll be able to use simple SMS ETA updates like before.

This new requirement of adding all contacts in order to use any contact is not okay. In my case, it may even result in legal action against me due to conflict of interest between multiple customers in my contact list. Waze, forcing your way into my business and my personal life is no way to make friends, or happy users.

it worked before with messqge/e-mail.... all contacts is for a lot of people a 'no no'. On the other hand, as 'long time' waze user I've never noticed waze using my contacts for anything else.

How about this...Give me the option of allowing access to ONE....maybe TWO contacts that I MIGHT want to share SOME driving data with.

I have loved WAZE for years, and recommended it to everyone I know. I am now deleting it because when trying to install it on my new phone, it wants my entire contact list. No way!!!

Just go to settings, accounts and delete/remove waze and it should stay away from your conta2

A friend with an iPhone uses this app so I wanted to try it, but the list of permissions for Android is nuts. I don't download such intrusive apps.

Just installed today and couldn't believe the type of permissions it requires. Contacts and Microphone are the two that confound me the most.

Can't speak for others but I am showing my disgust with your new policy by 1) removing your app and 2) loading another competitor navigation app which doesn't have such draconian policies.
