Suspicious as to why they won't do this - is this 1984?

Is there some answer from Waze why is this not supported?

Here are my settings and the way I solved this issue of always using the GPS & battery even when Waze was not running at all.

First of all, I allowed Waze to access Location:always, Contacts:never, Calendar: never, Microphone: never, Camera: never.

The fact that Waze has no access to Calendar hides the "Location change reporting" menu in Waze General settings (turning off "Location change reporting" seems to correct the battery issue, but you need to give access to your calendar to see that option).

The solution I found was to go to Waze settings, Notifications, and uncheck "I'd like to receive notifications from Waze". Then close Waze, wait for 30 seconds, and the GPS icon from the iPhone bar will disappear.

Love the app, hate the Always on Location. Looking at removing it and going back to Google Maps as a result of it draining my battery when I forget to switch Location services for waze off each time I am not using it.

There is 2 types of drivers. First type are pro drivers and they use waze more actively. Second one are people that use waze time to time. Currently waze is ok for first group of users. So maybe it is not bad to have 2 version of app. Current version is more like pro. And new one for people who use app time to time. For this version while using is great. My be calendar sync, facebook integration and many other features are unnecessary.

This feature is pointless - when you use "Time to Leave" you have to tell it where you're leaving from anyway, so what's the point of this!! Just rude for us users!

I just deleted the app. I have always used Google Maps and was going to check out Waze, but the constant location access is a nonstarter for me.

Why are you sapping battery unnecessarily!? Clean up your act, Waze. It's not necessary for you to know my location when your app is not loaded. Please re-enable "while using"!!!

Please provide option to set location services to While Using. Im not comfortable with apps knowing my location when not using AND if it using GPS whenever it wants, i don't want it draining my battery. Thx

Waze, maybe you should give your users the option of having "While Using" instead of "Always" as an option - until then, Waze will remain in "Never" mode, until I need it on and am actively using the App. If you won't give us back the "While Using" button, maybe we should all start writing letters to our US representatives and US senators and complaining to them...I'm sure some lackey congresscritter would love to take on this issue of privacy invasion.

In Europe, are they allowed within the Waze App to have GPS set to "Always"?
Europe is very stringent about privacy of its citizens and what companies can and cannot track. It would be nice if the USA took a stronger stance on what companies are allowed to keep track of...then again, if they did not, how else would the NSA be able to gather more data by having more providers of everything about us??

Allowing Waze location services "always" or "never" is irritating. The app drains the battery rapidly and I would like to see an update rollout where you can set location services to "while using app" to save battery life and increase my use of Waze as I sometimes forget to go back and set it to "never" when not using the app which in turn drains the battery significantly as Waze keeps tracking your location even as you are not using it.

So many of these comments for so long. Doesn't look like its high priority...

Yered is correct. Go to Settings -> General (in the Waze app) and switch "Location Change Reporting" off. Now Waze will only use your location whilst using the app. :)

Not using it until you provide "while using the app" in location services. There is NO reason Waze needs 24/7/365 access to my location. Uninstalled.
