Proposal for Optimizing the Dynamic Reporting System for "Roadworks"
Problem:
The current Waze system for classifying "Roadworks" events relies on a rigid and overly limited software logic that fails to match the real-world dynamics of construction zones. Currently, the application offers only three static options, which are highly inadequate. Roadworks are frequently located outside the active driving lanes—such as maintenance on the shoulder, grass cutting, guardrail repairs, or ditch cleaning—where no lanes are closed and traffic flows freely, yet the road hazard remains active. The lack of a specific option for "general roadworks without lane blockage" confuses drivers.
This issue becomes critical once an initial alert is detailed by a user as a "Lane Closure." At this point, the interface locks into a software trap, presenting subsequent drivers with a binary "Yes/No" question (Is it still there?). Because construction sites are highly dynamic—workers constantly move machinery to the opposite lane or reopen the road entirely overnight while leaving the asphalt scraped—users have no way to correct the status. This lack of flexibility forces drivers to mass-vote using the incorrect "Not there anymore" option simply to remove the non-existent lane closure, which automatically deletes the entire alert and leaves the hazardous zone completely undocumented on the map.
Solution:
Introduction of two dynamic, 5-option menus that enable detailed classification and real-time state changes based on majority voting, paired with an automated alert recovery algorithm and extended time-to-live thresholds.
Section 1: Interface Options for the Initial "General Roadworks" Alert
When a driver approaches a standard roadworks alert, the interface must provide the following 5 options:
1 Left lane closed
Effect: Modifies the alert state and displays a visual indicator for a closed left lane.
2 Right lane closed
Effect: Modifies the alert state and displays a visual indicator for a closed right lane.
3 No lane closures / Clear passage
Effect: Retains the baseline roadworks alert and refreshes its expiration timer. This option is critical for flagging shoulder work or active construction zones during off-peak periods (e.g., night shifts) when heavy machinery is cleared but hazards like scraped asphalt remain.
4 Full road closure
Effect: Upon receiving 3 consecutive votes within a 5-minute window, the routing algorithm automatically applies a full closure to the road segment (red-and-white line).
5 Not there anymore
Effect: Completely purges the alert from the map if all construction activities have concluded.
Section 2: Interface Options for an Already Active "Lane Closure" Alert
When a driver approaches a hazard already marked on the map as a lane closure, the interface must not display a simple binary prompt. It must enable corrective input via the following 5 options:
1 Still closed
Effect: Confirms the current state and extends the active duration of the alert.
2 Switch closed lane
Effect: Automatically swaps the visual indicator from left to right lane (or vice versa), reflecting that the crew and equipment have shifted positioning.
3 Lanes reopened / Keep roadworks alert
Effect: Removes the specific lane blockage indicator but reverts the object to its baseline state as a general roadworks alert (all lanes passable, but construction zone remains active).
4 Full road closure
Effect: Instantly escalates the alert to a full road segment closure.
5 Not there anymore
Effect: Completely purges the alert from the map upon verified completion of all works.
Section 3: Logic for Reverting from a "Full Road Closure" Back to a "General Roadworks" Alert
Once a segment is fully closed to navigation (Full road closure), the system must utilize an intelligent mechanism for reopening and reverting to baseline mode to prevent segments from remaining permanently blocked.
Data Collection Mechanism: Because navigation reroutes the general traffic flow, Waze must track the passive GPS traces of drivers who bypass the closure anyway (e.g., local residents or the first vehicles clearing the area upon reopening).
Trigger Condition: When the system detects a user's GPS trace moving through the closed segment at a speed greater than pedestrian pace (above 15 km/h), the app will automatically prompt them with an overlay banner: “Is the road reopened?”
State Reversion Rules:
1 Selecting “Reopened, but roadworks active” \rightarrow Instantly removes the red-and-white closure line, reopens the segment for routing, and restores the baseline "Roadworks" alert.
2 Selecting “Reopened, roadworks finished” \rightarrow Reopens the segment for routing and completely deletes the alert from the map database.
Section 4: Radical Increase of Time-To-Live (TTL) and Removal of the 30-Minute Expiration Limit
The current software architecture automatically drops roadworks or lane closure alerts after a brief 30–35 minute window if continuous active confirmations are missing. This is a critical software defect during nighttime hours or on low-traffic routes where a segment might see no user activity for over half an hour, causing valid alerts to vanish and leaving the road hazardous.
New Software TTL Framework:
1 12-Hour Minimum Longevity: Every submitted baseline roadworks alert (or escalated lane closure) must automatically receive a fixed Time-To-Live (TTL) metadata value of at least 12 hours within the database.
2 Reset upon Transformation: Any manual state correction performed by a user (such as shifting from general roadworks to a lane closure, or swapping lanes) resets this 12-hour countdown back to zero.
3 Protection Against Premature Automatic Deletion: The alert can be removed before the 12-hour expiration mark only and exclusively through an accumulation of negative crowd-sourced votes ("Not there anymore"), never via a temporary absence of traffic data.Problem:

Unmarked police vechiles
I have an idea for a feature that could make Waze even more useful for drivers.
It would be great if users could report unmarked police vehicles in the app, similarly to how they currently report visible police. Users could optionally enter the vehicle's license plate number, make, model, or color (if known).
When another driver approaches the same area, Waze could display a notification such as:
"An unmarked police vehicle was reported here at 2:15 PM. Reported vehicle: black Volkswagen Passat."This would give drivers more awareness of their surroundings while also showing when and where the vehicle was last seen. Since the vehicle may have moved, including the report time would help users judge how relevant the information is.

Adding a language which is used by 40 million people
Dear Waze Localization Team,
My name is Meer Faraydon, and I am 18 years old. I am passionate about computer science, artificial intelligence, software, and language localization. I have completed several courses and earned certificates in computer science, AI, and related technologies. Alongside my technical interests, I have experience in translation and communication across multiple languages.
I am fluent in Kurdish, English, Turkish, and Arabic. I have also worked on business translation projects, which have strengthened my ability to communicate accurately and naturally between languages. My combination of technical knowledge and multilingual experience has inspired me to contribute to technology that makes everyday life easier for people.
I am writing to express my interest in volunteering to help bring professional Kurdish language support to Waze.
Kurdish is spoken by more than 40 million people across Iraq, Türkiye, Iran, Syria, and Kurdish communities around the world. Despite the large number of speakers, Kurdish is still underrepresented in many global digital platforms and navigation technologies.
Many Kurdish speakers prefer to use technology in their native language, especially when receiving spoken navigation instructions while driving. Providing accurate, natural Kurdish voice guidance would improve accessibility, make navigation easier to understand, and create a better experience for many users.
One of the greatest strengths of this project is the richness of the Kurdish language. Kurdish includes several major dialects, including Sorani, Badini (Kurmanji), Hawrami, Zazaki, and others. Each dialect has its own pronunciation, vocabulary, and expressions. Rather than creating only one version, I would be happy to help develop professional localization for multiple dialects so that users can choose the voice and language that feels most natural to them.
I would be honored to contribute by:
- Translating the Waze interface into Kurdish.
- Reviewing and improving translations for accuracy and clarity.
- Recording high-quality navigation voice prompts.
- Helping adapt the language naturally for different Kurdish dialects.
- Assisting with testing and quality assurance to ensure a professional user experience.
I am offering my time because I truly believe this project can make Waze more accessible to millions of Kurdish speakers. My goal is not only to support my own community but also to help Waze become more inclusive by serving one of the world’s largest language communities that still has limited representation in navigation technology.
I would greatly appreciate the opportunity to discuss this proposal with your localization team. Thank you very much for your time and consideration. I hope to contribute to Waze and help bring professional Kurdish language and voice support to users around the world.
Kind regards,
Meer Faraydon

Programable Main page Icon most used by each user.
I was wondering how hard it would be for Wazer to allow users to have one icon they use a lot to be available on the main page. I use the stopped car post a lot and it is sometimes difficult to report it while driving in traffic since I have to click on 3 difficult screens. If I could have an option to have that icon displayed on the main page then all Anyone would need to do is press the one icon and it would send in the report with less danger of taking your eyes off the road too long. I hope this can be possible I think many more users would be able to report traffic items with ease. Thank you.

Add Flacbox as an Audio Player / Integración de Flacbox como App de Reproducción de Audio
I have a suggestion: how about integrating Flacbox, a popular audio player app, with Waze? Flacbox is known for its high-quality sound and support for various audio formats. Adding it to Waze would let users enjoy their favorite music without interruptions while navigating, making the driving experience even better.

Screen is brighter on iPhone compared to Samsung
I own both an iPhone 14 and a Samsung Galaxy A34. When using Waze I've noticed the screen is brighter on the iPhone compared to the Samsung. I use the Samsung on my motorcycle but can barely see the screen in daylight. The Samsung I believe has a max brightness of 1009 nits. I have both devices set to auto brightness.

entering problems on the road backwards
Good day.
It has happened to me several times, and I believe I will not be the only one, that I drove past a place on the road where there was a traffic accident or obstacle and I wanted to enter it into Waze navigation, but it cannot be done backwards. Only in the place where I am. I think it would be good to be able to enter a problem on the road retroactively. Thank you.
Good day.

Quick reporting buttons on the screen.
The on screen button\icon would allow you to report road hazards with one touch on hte screen. Currently you have to make at least 4 inputs to report the most common hazards. Would make reporting hazards a lot safer.
