Add “Pedestrian Crossing Zone” Warning in WME Map Editor
💡 Idea Description:
I suggest adding a new warning option in the WME Map Editor named “Pedestrian Crossing Zone” to be used in areas with frequent pedestrian movement, such as:
Local markets and shopping centers
Hospitals and medical facilities
Schools and universities
Parks and recreational areas
In reality, there are visible pedestrian crossing signs in these places, but this warning option does not currently exist in WME. As a result, drivers are not alerted to slow down or pay attention to crossing pedestrians in these locations.
🚗 Importance of the Suggestion:
Adding this warning will help drivers to:
Reduce speed when approaching pedestrian areas.
Stay alert for children and elderly people crossing the road.
Prevent accidents in crowded areas.
It will also improve the accuracy of Waze alerts and make the map more consistent with real-world traffic signs.
🎯 Expected Impact:
This simple addition could make a major difference in enhancing traffic safety and reducing accidents, especially in cities and busy market zones. It’s an important step toward making Waze maps more realistic and safety-focused.

Hi Juan,
Thank you very much for your thoughtful comment and support! 🙏
You’re absolutely right — pedestrian crossings and crossing systems can vary a lot between countries and cities. The goal of this suggestion is to create a general “pedestrian activity warning” for areas where drivers frequently encounter people crossing the road — regardless of whether it’s a signalized crossing, a button-activated one, or any other type.
It’s great to see how similar ideas apply in different regions like Canada! Thanks again for sharing your insight. 👏

great idea, this could be very helpful for drivers to be aware of Pedestrian crossings, which is basically where you have to stop and allow pedestrians to cross, here in Canada we have them an pedestrians can just press a button and the crossing light will come on and drivers must stop to allow pedestrians, im sure there must be different kinds of pedestrian crossings out there, vs zebra crossings which are in every traffic light for pedestrians to cross when the light allows them to.

Hi Rafa,
Thank you for your helpful feedback! 🙏
You’re absolutely right — “Pedestrian Crossing Zone” could be confused with zebra crossings. The idea is mainly about creating a warning for areas with frequent pedestrian activity, such as markets, schools, and parks, not for official crosswalks.
The name can always be refined later — the main focus is the concept itself.
Thanks again for your valuable input and support! 👏 -

Think about renaming this to something else as to avoid confusion with zebra crossings.
