Express Lanes - Avoid Express Lanes option
A nice feature would be a setting to avoid Express Lanes, like the ones on I95 (I-95) that require the EZ-Pass. Currently the only way to do this is to enable "Avoid Toll Roads." However this makes my route avoid the tunnel or bridge that I DO want to use. Avoiding the tunnel or bridge would add 20 or more minutes to my drive.
Basically, separate out the luxury Express Lanes from toll roads and create another setting for them.
Thank you.
Thank you for your suggestion! As you may know, Waze offers HOV routing for taxis. To change your vehicle type go to Settings > Vehicle type. There are currently no plans to add more HOV options.

It is not the HOV we want to avoid. It is the very expensive time of day use-based express lanes

WAZE,
HOT (High Occupancy Toll) LANES is different than a HOV (High Occupancy Vehicle) Lane and is also different than Toll Roads. The current features does not accommodate for the HOT/Express Lanes that are popping up across the United States. -

The lack of an “avoid express lanes” option is an unforgivable oversight. This must be fixed ASAP!

There are even different types of ez passes. If you don't have the right one in the DC area you can't be in the express lane. Waze shows the different types of passes but doesn't correlate them to the different types of toll roads and give you options based upon that combined information.

This is a must feature. I can deal with the toll roads in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. The toll lanes, however, are extortion. The toll lanes on SH183/121 and I-820 can be higher than $1/mi. Please give us the choice to avoid toll lanes and keep toll roads.

This is a MUST have. Right now, if you ignore the suggestion to take the Express Lane you will get incorrect directions. For example, on the way to Miami if you are in the express lane, the direction for Rt 112 is to take the left exit 1/2 mile before the non-express lane exit which is a right lane exit. This is flat out incorrect and will cause people to go the wrong way. I suggest a simple confirmation that you are or are not in the express lanes. much like you see when someone sees a police vehicle. the app asks you Thanks! or Not There. It would be nice for me to be able to identify that I am not in the express lanes - especially because the lanes are so close to the standard lanes that Waze cannot tell the difference. Are you in the Express Lane? Yes/No would really make a difference... Another nice feature would be to set a threshold for tolls. The Express Lanes in Miami can range from $2.00 to $11 for the same stretch of roadway. If it's $2.00 I take it if its$11 I do not. Of course, the distance calculations do not take that into consideration which make it a crap shoot to determine which will actually get me home in a reasonable time. It would be great to know the time differential between the express lane and the standard lanes. If the express lane will save me 1 hour? $11 may be worth it. But if it saves me 5 minutes - not!

I agree! Garmin, Google, and Waze all have me genuinely angry over the lack of this feature. Does anyone offer a solution? They default to the least useful option for the majority of their users. Were they paid off?

Driving around like an idiot because I don't have an EZ Pass in this truck and it's hard to recalculate switch directions and all that good stuff when you're driving in Virginia traffic it's just insanely hard it took me over 45 minutes to get on 495 North when it should have only taken me 15 minutes so anyway that's a little stripe four ways I don't want to go back to match but if I have to I will

I just got a $25.55 fine because it took me on the express entrance to the 110S by USC. I didn't realize I was in the express lane until I got on the highway, but by then it was too late, my license plate had been photographed. This feature needs to be added (or express lane entrances shouldn't be included in default directions!)

Agreed - Waze just got me a ticket too, because in traveling to a local DC area IKEA it took me to the I-95 Express lanes south, which as it turns out, was an EZPass toll road where they snap a pic of your license plate and mail out an "Unpaid Toll Invoice" letter. I was only following the Waze directions. Plus, there were no signs indicating I was traveling onto an EZPass only road. I have paid my ticket, but I am dismayed that Waze may still be directing innocent victims into a Toll trap. Otherwise, I enjoy using Waze, and it's been helpful in the past. I will continue using it and training it to be better!

THANK YOU, someone else had the same idea. I can't stand when I don't get the option between the regular toll road and the Express lane toll road. Such a nuisance.

ugh I just got a ticket because Waze took me into an Express lane in LA. I didn't know you had to have a certain pass in order to use the Express lane. Because I was in a rental car, now I have to pay the fine plus the fees from the car rental company! Thanks Waze.
