"choke buster" mode aka (lambs to the slaughter) (also "no right on red" avoidance)
Problem: I see a lot of wazers all jump off the freeway or arterial route only to get stuck on the same surface streets.
I see this happen:
The scenario is heavy traffic on a major thoroughfare.
Several cars all take the same obscure turn off the main road (Geary) onto the tricky alternate route (eg. Steiner) only to end up fourth or tenth at a four way stop, effectively defeating the "short cut" and suddenly ETA upticks minute by minute. Aargh! : )
So. I'd suggest Waze should monitor in real time as the "pulse" of traffic either flows with the traffic lights or gets choked. Then, avoid sending a lot of wazers down the same alternate, especially running a lot of wazers into the jaws of the choke, then having them all divert at the last opportunity -- they should instead be getting reroute suggestions early on and interactively changing the reroute suggestions as the traffic either worsens on the alternates or improves. Waze should be detecting the "success" of alternate route traffic to get through intersections in one light cycle or "normal" stop-start for a four-way stop.
Another example is any cross street turning onto Gough (where "no right on red" creates horrible choke points.) I'd suggest avoiding any reroute or alternate route that arrives at an intersection where there's heavy traffic on the primary route (gough) and the cross streets (e.g. Hayes) are "no right on red".
“Avoid difficult intersections” option is available in Navigation settings. Should ease the issue if not eliminate it.
