Increase police warning distance
Waze users are warned of speed traps or police presence only about 600 feet ahead of time. This is far too late of a warning. With a clear line of sight, law enforcement can detect speeders at 1-2 miles out.
By the time the Waze warning pops up, you could have already been detected.
This feature – while very well intentioned and thought out – is useless with so little warning.
What we are aiming to do here is speed based alerters.

This is in line with comments I have read in other places. The ability to set the "Events Radius" with both on "On route only" and a distance would be perfect.

When the yellow bar comes up it tells me what the hazard is and how far away, but the buttons to thank the person and dismiss it cover the words describing the hazard type. If you put the hazard on top and the distance to it underneath, then the buttons wouldn't block the writing. I think it's a simple change that would make the app look better.

The old version of Waze gave more distance warning for police radar locations.

Good! Give them all tickets!

This is exactly what I think is needed. I would also like to be able set preferences for highway/interstate travel vs in town distance preferences. For example on a highway or interstate you need to be alerted of an accident an average of 10 miles ahead to make a change of course, but in city driving you may only need 1/2 mile.

It would be better to have an alert area instead of along a segment. Often on a freeway the troopers are running in both directions. and if you are going in the opposite direction of the report you will not get an alert. Police should be reported as a zone not a point.

+10000 for this suggestion.
For everyone saying driving fast is dangerous and wont get home safely, do some research first.

I agree and think the alert distance should be customizable; police alerts could be set to 1/4 mile - 3 miles before police location. And please allow me to turn off hazard warnings and keep police warnings on!
And to all you commenters saying "don't speed", "we want to get home safe too, blah blah blah": don't forget, this app gained most of its popularity for the feature of police reporting. I speed on every highway I travel; without police reports I wouldn't even use the app. So get off your high horses, stay in the right lane and let the non-zombie drivers drive. I save dozens of hours of time spent in the car every year because I speed; just because you can't drive safely at 70mph in a 55, doesn't mean I can't.

Police speed traps often stay for 30 minutes to one hour, but it disappears form waze after 15 or 30 minutes. This is hazardous to other wazers, so please increase the amount of time a warning lasts for to two hours. It can be cancelled earlier given enough (perhaps 5 or 10) not there votes.

Leave Confirm/Deny (Yes/No) buttons on screen longer (Increase Countdown time) -
Because of the disparity of user entries adding alerts, the exact location of an alert is vague. Often times when I see an alert, the countdown to when I can confirm or deny goes away before the actual alert is there. There have been times I press Deny, only to see the alert around a corner or over a hill, a few tenths of a mile up the road. My suggestion is to leave those buttons on for 1/4 mile or so past the supposed alert to give more validity to the confirmations or denials. -

The way I see it, the alert is there so that people know there may be an officer on the side of the road, and to keep alert in order to avoid a wreck.
Nobody owes you data on speed traps. Caveat emptor, driver.

If your worried about getting a speeding ticket, SLOW down. Your not the only one on the road. We all want to get home safely to our families.

Make it where you can add warnings to remote spots within a certain distance you drove pass.Currently, It only allows the spots you drove pass, which half the time its late to pinpoint where the pothole, car stop, or object is located on the road. I think it should be like the map editor, where you get distance as you rank. 5 stars when this happens.

It needs to tell you that there's a accident about 10 miles out so you can get off a exit and go around

While hwy driving you only have exits spaced miles apart. The traffic jam warning comes to late to find an alternate route or to allow time to change lanes to exit the hwy before you are caught in the traffic.
By the time the Waze warning pops up, you are already stuck in the traffic.
Increase the distance or time warning.

In fact, many times there is no warning, especially if there are multiple reports in succession, only one will be reported, which requires the user to be distracted yet again by touching the symbol in order to give it a thumbs up, etc.

Should also be based on speed - more distance warning at 65mph vs 25mph
