Increase police warning distance
Waze users are warned of speed traps or police presence only about 600 feet ahead of time. This is far too late of a warning. With a clear line of sight, law enforcement can detect speeders at 1-2 miles out.
By the time the Waze warning pops up, you could have already been detected.
This feature – while very well intentioned and thought out – is useless with so little warning.
What we are aiming to do here is speed based alerters.

Please make police alert more customizable in terms of distance before you get to the police so many people are wanting this how many up votes do we have to get for you to implement it?

Have different distances that you can set to be notified of a speed measurement camera for instance one at 800 m another one at 300 m and another last and final warning at 100 m with an audible tone as well.

Please! Add the ability to manually adjust the distance to warnings about speed cameras, accidents, and other hazards.

Increasing the police warning distance would greatly benefit Waze users, similar to early alerts seen in . https://multiplayercarparking.com/. Extending this range enhances safety and reaction time.

Make alert distances customizable. The alerts are great but it’s hard to move over when you find out the lane is closed 600ft in front of you. Or that theres 6 miles of traffic that it tells you about after you passed the last exit you could have gotten off or that there’s cops ahead when you can already see them. I believe customizable alert distances for each type of alert could solve this problem. For those who want all the information up front they can have very early alerts. For those who don’t want the annoyance of constant notifications they can have short alert distances. This feature would make the app 10x more useful and customizable to fit each users taste.

It's now 2024, I was literally look for a way to contact them about this. Only to come here and see that its been over a decade since someone reported and still no solution.

Fully agreed! 1 km away is too far away--especially if driving at only 50km/h...that's like over one minute away...needs to be more like only 10 seconds.

I get warnings two to three minutes and 10 city blocks before the camera. I just paid my third speeding ticket using waze.

Adjustable distance setting for alerts e.g. 0.3miles, 0.5miles, 1 mile, 2miles etc from hazard, police.

Would it be possible to have in the Waze configuration an option to setup the distance prior the location of a hidden police that would be triggering the alerting verbal message ? Often, the verbal alert is given too late (150 m before the location of the police).

If Waze can't increase the warning time or allow users to increase the warning time, perhaps they could change the notification to say, 'You've just been caught speeding,' 'You've just hit an obstacle in the road,' etc.

Just looking back, this same request to have user customizable alert distances has been requested for over 11 years. People clearly really want it, but for some reason Waze doesn't want to do it. Eventually another app will take over that offers this important feature I'm sure.

Whereas when I'm driving 30 mph (50 kph) and there's a notification for a speed/red-light camera coming up in 600 meters, I'll have forgotten about it by the time I get there.

Audio alert for speed cameras and for police is too late. When driving on a fast roads and you hear alert ca 500 meters before location of a speed camera or police, you don't have enough time to react. Audio signal should be heard ca 1 km before location of a speed camera or police.

I just got caught by a mobile speed camera, the Waze warning popped up as I came over the brow of a hill and I saw the police van in the far distance, probably about a mile. Unfortunately they saw me as well!
Speed based notifications would not help in this situation as they detect you as soon as you heave into sight.
The warning distance needs to be much more than the latest speed camera detection distance. -

Modern mobile speed cameras have a detection distance of over 1km (0.6 miles) so the notification needs to be at least 1 mile or maybe more before the reported location. The notification distance should be separate to fixed cameras that have a shorter detection distance.

I agree with you, even if you are going with 60 should be sooner, but if you are going with 160 it's already too late. it should be customizable or dynamic by speed.
