A button for HOV or non-HOV
There should be a button to tell Waze whether the car is in the HOV lane. 1), it would help Waze better determine traffic speed since it wouldn't average Wazer's in the HOV lanes with the speeds of those driving slower. 2), the Map would/could show the average speed of HOV or non HOV speeds. A Wazer in the HOV lane could really impact the accurate speed average shown (and vice versa).

Great thinking! The issue you raised has been addressed in a recent redesign. Hope you like it!

Add a button to allow us to avoid HOV lanes
Also ask how many people are in the car if we are going to take a HOV route.
Capture the conditions for HOV tolls if there are not 2 or more people and allow the driver to decide on that.
-In Houston it can be $6.50 to ride the HOV, I would usually just take another route around the city but if I don't find out until Im about the enter the HOV the regular highway will take an extra 30 minutes. -

In Houston you can take the HOV if you want to pay a toll but only at certain times. I love that waze helps you sort out the HOV lanes because they are a pain to navigate sometimes. I cannot afford using the HOV every day though. Yesterday waze kept sending me to various entrances on my way home and I just couldn't use it any more.
It would be nice to have the HOV no HOV option or maybe just ask the question how many people are in the car or are you riding a motorcycle? As another option it might be nice to offer the HOV if there is a serious contrast.
For example, another day this week the highway was totally blocked so I followed the HOV suggestion and that saved me 40 minutes on my commute. Don't just offer a route that costs me $7 because it will save 5 minutes though, like it did yesterday. Give some explanation like, this route is going to save you 30 minutes but may involve a toll is that cool? This could be an option in the software, a threshold at which you would take a toll road.

I'd love an option when I'm kicking off a route to say HOV/non HOV and have different routing based on that.
I live in Seattle area and it's often MUCH faster to I90 across the lake with the HOV than to go to 520 which doesn't have an HOV lane but quite the opposite if you can't do the HOV lane. I'd love Waze to steer me and calculate my route/time based on HOV or not.

I agree with everyone below. If I followed the directions that Waze gave me I would have gotten a huge ticket.

I agree with the comments below to have a button to toggle HOV lanes off.

Is there a way to turn off the HOV lane option. I was in LA yesterday and Waze took me on a very long detour off of the free way to take me to the HOV lane. That would be great if I had an HOV privileges, but then I had to take another 20 minutes to get back on the regular free way. There should be an option to turn on HOV lanes if you have access.

PLEASE PLEASE HURRY IN PROVIDING THIS FUNCTION TO ALLOW A DRIVER TO OPT OUT OF HOV IN WAZE!
WAZE directed me onto a HOV only on ramp at night in South LA where I was not familiar with the area. Once I started up the ramp and realized I was stuck on an elevated ramp I couldn't escape from. Had to jump out a mile up or so at the last second before going under the camera's. Hoping Waze didn't set me up for a $400 ticket. -

I live in the greater Seattle area and ride/drive a vanpool. It would be incredibly helpful to incorporate the ability to turn off ferry system routes and identify yourself as a carpool. Having the ability to toggle being a carpool would be nice to the effect of seeing more accurate travel times.
Thanks Waze! Been a wazer for over a year. Keep up the good work!

I travel almost exclusively in Los Angeles. I did read in the guide that Waze does not yet incorporate HOV or Express lanes, but Waze likes to route users on some HOV lanes, particularly on the 110 and 105 freeways. If I am driving alone or do not have FastTrak, I cannot use those lanes. It would be nice if there was an option to tell Waze when the user is traveling alone and must use standard lanes. Again, I know the guide says this those lanes aren't incorporated, but every time I travel on the 110, particularly south of downtown, I'm told to move to the express lanes. Maybe I'm missing something in the app.

Yes!!! I usually FLY in the carpool lane in the morning. I'm sure that screws things up for everyone on my route.

This would be super helpful. Especially in Los Angeles area with limited access lanes as well as hov to hov interchanges.

I completely agree! Some days the HOV is the absolute worst and you can be trapped for an hour. I would love to get the heads up to avoid it before you get stuck!

In most metro areas, there are HOV lanes that are not to used by signle rider autos durring specific times. When driving to or from work, I'm routed using HOV lanes. Not sure if there is a way to make the app smarter in knowing what times HOV lanes are only to used by 2/3 rider autos or are "Open to all traffic." Or add another button.option within the app Yes/No to HOV.
Thank you!!!!!

Add carpool mode to allow for better estimation of travel times. When traveling to/from Boston, travel times differ greatly between HOV lane and regular lanes.

Allow useres an option for choosing that they are HOV lane compliant. This way you waze can give traffic feedback for us in the HOV lane.

Best examples of how Waze falls short:
1) 91W Toll road split to 91/55 fwys- if you're in the toll road, Waze gives the wrong direction, as the exits are the reverse of what the freeway has.
2) 91W to 5N- exits are different depending on whether you are in the carpool lane or not.Would be great if Waze asked if you qualified for carpool when starting navigation.

Add the option to select the Car Pool Lane when determining the quickest routes. In los angeles and other major cities we have a lot of car pool lanes that do not connect that should be factored into possible routes. Waze already tracks the speed in carpool lanes but does not factor that in when determining quickest route because there is no option to tell it whether you have multiple passengers or not.

I agree, a condition toggle for USE or DON'T USE HOV LANE is necessary for a few reasons. Like Speedy said, when he's solo he shouldn't be told to take the HOV lane--it needs to ignore those lanes. In my case, I use them and I'd prefer it calculate and guide based on using them.
Furher, I'm sure that when I'm driving in the HOV lane at full speed and the mainline of the freeway is stopped, my speeds are throwing off the average for both sets of lanes.
WAZE needs to differentiate between both HOV and regular mainline lanes on the freeway.
NOTE: I also posted this with an "iPhone" suggestion since Waveguider posted a similar idea!
