send XMPP message when nearing destination (Jabber)
some people are offended by outdated technology that requires one to pay for unwanted messages (sms).
It is beyond inane to use sms on a smartphone when XMPP is far more featured, FREE, secure.
Waze could further advertise the service with its own XMPP server. This would facilitate such messages, enhance social features, and expand the wondedful world of federation. Prosody and Tigase are great server options.

Legacy Texting (sms) is never free. Including it in a mobile plan increases COSTS.
Jabber Texting (xmpp) by contrast is free and superior in every respect plus dimensions sms will never have

Almost all danish carriers include REAL unlimited texting (for personal use only of course) in the subscription. Most of them also include free calling and between 1 and 100 GB/month. Are you really that far behind in the US?

Sounds more like YOU are outdated. I don't even know of a major carrier that doesn't have a cheap, unlimited texting plan. Why would anyone pay for texts, anymore? I mean, 2016, bro.

For most people, most of the time in the UK, SMS messaging is either free (included in their allowances) or very cheap. It makes sense for people who don't want to use SMS to have an option to hide it, but for people who aren't concerned by it's cost, I think the option to use it should remain.

I no longer tolerate sms texting. It's conveyed as Packet Data by all networks. OUTRAGEOUS to spend money on that atop data fees.
I don't need google knowing MY information to share with people I trust already.
My brother forced his kids to use Xmpp Texting on all their devices. Six kids and 13 devices in his verizon account was stupid expensive with sms texting. "Unlimited free sms texting" is NOT free. Removing sms texting from his plan dropped his monthly cost 46% !!!!
▶▶▶ Xmpp Texting is the answer we all need ◀◀◀
Waze should integrate xmpp texting for map chats, inbox, and socializing to promote waze IRL with a JID inside waze.com domain.
Platform should be capable of both
● OTR
● mpOTRBecause PRIVACY IS A RIGHT therefore we have a right to encrypt communication
I would want zRTP & sRTP encryption on Jingle (sip) notes and chats
I ALSO LOVE YOUR JINGLE SHORT AUDIO BLURB
I use both xmpp and sip.
.... the shocker...
VoLTE uses both SIP & XMPP
Microsoft Lync is both XMPP & SIP
Cisco uses both SIP & XMPP
When will the rest of us become wise?
$0.00

I greatly prefer Xmpp Texting (with OTR)
Xmpp was originally integrated into android as was SIP. Only SIP integration remains. SIP Texting is a great bridge to sms texting (voip).
sms text is absurdly expensive especially given it's now delivered over IMS!
Map Chats would be better as Xmpp Texting from within waze

Send Xmpp Text must be integrated into app AS OPTION to displace both MapChat and waze-inbox.

This is just my two cents worth, but why not create a tasker plugin, or a link between tasker and Waze, so that triggers could be started navigation which feeds the latitude and longitude, hit a traffic jam which also feeds latitude and longitude, nearly arrived (e.g. a few minutes away from location) and arrived at location (which feeds latitude and longitude).
This would allow the above request to send a XMPP message to be achieved through tasker, but would also allow us to send a sms to the person we are meeting to say we have hit a traffic jam, or to send a message saying we have nearly arrived (message can be email, pushover, txt, xmpp that is the great thing it is flexible).
If it helps:

I use xmpp more than sip texting through voip, both without costs or ads. Our phones all have sms blocking. I can't believe people cling to that outdated tech let alone waste money on it
i hope waze will be early adopters of
mpOTR
multi party antispy security

"every phonewhich can use waze can also usean XMPP client"
why do people continue paying to inflict sms upon themselves or the ones they claim to love??
-
Dignity Matters commented
yes please
also not show f*book prompts, twit or other third party 'social' Widgets

oh yes!
this will save families serious money. I don't allow sms on my kid's phones. I've feature blocked it to encourage XMPP. they took to it right away.

sms is also more expensive internationally
every phone which can use waze can also use an XMPP client
XMPP can be easily encrypted with OTR, a feature available in most current clients, but not for sms
computers and other devices can easily interact via XMPP. the same is NOT true for ancient sms

There are a reason to use sms:
- very expensive data plans on roaming in travel;
- very bad data coverage -

for those who are not foolishly paying to send text communcations please add option to hide such from the UI. Optionally replace with Jabber (XMPP).
There is no sane reason to use OLD sms on a smartphone! Stop burning money.
