Option to keep "battery saver" always on
Waze has this new "battery saver" feature that dims the screen when there is a long way until the next turn/action. As I understand, currently this feature only kicks in when the battery level is low (<25%). Or you can manually turn it on for a current trip, but it revert to the default behaviour next time you start Waze.
I suggest to add an option to keep it ALWAYS on. Because I would like to use it all the time... Even if the battery level is not low, I'd like to save it for the rest of the day. One way to implement this would be, for example, to make the threshold battery level adjustable - so it would be 25% by default, and I would set it to 100% (=always on).
Great thinking! We’ll share with the team; they’re always interested in new feature ideas.

I second this!
I have a AMOLED screen and it burns the waze logos in because I have it open almost ever
(feel grateful :) )
And an "ALWAYS ON" function would really help! -

Have option to turn on energy save permanently, would help on frequent long drives and would also attract more attention to events as screen lights up from dim to normal brightness.

As default, the screen goes to sleep while Waze client is running. In this status we cannot receive visual navigation info, warnings, etc. To avoid this I guess most of the users switch on "Prevent Auto-Lock" function (iPhone). This is a great stuff, but drains battery without charger and/or kills battery in 1-1,5 years with charger, since it's plugged in all the time.
My idea is to have an other option besides "Prevent Auto-Lock", as an "Auto-Lock with Visuals" or something for instance, which lets the screen go to sleep, but before any navigation instruction, any pre-set traffic warnings (police, any danger on road, etc.) the screen swithes back for a short time, which also could be pre-set by users (5-10-30 sec). Maybe it could be synchrinized with navi sounds. -

I have an iPhone and a broken car power socket. Even if waze or running in background it takes loads of power. A simple processor halt for that app would help maybe a play/payees button that actually halts processor requirement.

I've noticed this to on a 5800 !
Consumption is very excessive and my car charger is not strong enough to compensate !! -

How do you do the above on an android pho?

I love Waze, but I can't afford to use the battery required to run it on my daily commute (25-30% of battery life each way).
I suggest you make a "low battery" mode that uses the GPS less (like once every 10 min) or only as key turns are coming up. For example if I have 30 miles to go on a segment you could assume I'm staying on course until I get the the turn. If I get lost or there's traffic I could switch back to "active" mode.
If this was available I'd use Waze everyday vs a couple times a month.

Hi,
When I turn on my Waze and doing things that are nothing to do with navigation and since Waze app is actively looking out or using navigation which is what is draining my battery pretty fast.
So my question to you is can you provide a switch or an option where Navigation will look out when I click cross-hair icon while not moving or something better to safe my battery.
Thank you,
Ravi.

Using waze while walking contributes bad data. The bad usability on your phone is twofold: Battery capacity and gps/3g/gprs chip power usage. If you have a phone with a lower battery capacity and a power hungry radio you can bet using it all drains your battery quickly. Also, wrongly using your battery can drastically decrease it's capacity. This cannot be solved in software, as it is a hardware issue inherent in your phone.
The fact that your phone gets hot is a obvious sign your battery gets drained fast or your chip is working at peak capacity.
Most waze users use either a more powerful phone which has a better battery, or use a car dock with charger.

Since I don't have a car, I usually walk or take a bus when using waze(So I can't charge the battery while using Waze). It looks like waze consumes too much power. I have nokia n5800. I used the phone with waze turned on, and about a 30 to 50min of using waze consumed more than half of the battery life. Backside of the phone was scorching. Waze should find a way to optimize the client with respect to Drawing screen/Frequency(method) of internet access/GPS usage.
Also, when I put the client background using menu button of the phone in order to make a call or send a message, Waze stops recording a new road. When I come back to Waze, the map shows "I didn't work while you're making a call" with discontinued road record, it continues to record a new road. Same is true when I turn off the screen with side-lock slide. First I though "OK, in this way, I can save the battery life". But of no luck. It just stops recording the new road even it was running foreground.
I planned to use Waze while I take a cross country bus, but with this battery consuming rate and inability to record in background of the system, My plan would be just a dream. I hope Waze be more optimized and convenient to use.
