Waze needs to download the map offline and calculate/recalculate routes.
Basically what Google Maps is now.

I know you can select your destination with Waze online and then disconnect from internet and then still go there but there aren't any route calculation so that's a problem.

Waze has better route calculations so it's better than Maps.

Many places in rural America still do not have cell coverage. I work in emergency services and while I prefer to use Waze on-line, when I get into areas without coverage, I need to have downloaded maps for our entire county present off-line. Waze is my preferred mapping system but it forces me to go to something else because of the lack of available off-line maps.

At first I struggled with Waze since the beginning, sometimes I used to run outta data and then Waze stopped. No data, no Waze. So the next option should be a DOWNLOAD MAP AREA that can be downloaded and then use if OFFLINE as Google MAP does.

My understanding is that Waze already does this in some limited capacity. I've completed a route and wound up in a place without a wireless connection. Then I selected home and it used what roads it had already loaded to create a route that was updated once I got into reception again.

My understanding is that this doesn't work though if you close the app when in a no connection area.

It would be GREAT if Waze could work offline when either the 3/4G or the GPS signal goes off.

In the cases where the route had already been calculated when the signal is lost, Waze could save this very route for offline usage.

In the cases where the signal is lost even before the route is calculated, Waze could use a default route just like the old GPS systems.

Seria EXCELENTE se o Waze funcionasse offline quando o sinal da internet ou do GPS caísse.

No caso da rota já ter sido calculada quando o sinal caísse, o Waze poderia salvar e utilizar essa mesma rota offline.

No caso do sinal cair antes mesmo da rota ser calculada, o Waze poderia utilizar uma rota-padrão assim como fazem os sistemas de GPS antigos.

Dear Waze company, can you please make this app were some of u can download offline maps so that way we can still use the app when driving? it would be nice to have that as a feature as well.

I really like Waze but It consumes a lot of data by not loading the map on the mobile.
I find restaurants easily and your phone.They should put an option to download a map of the country of interest.

I have an Android with a 64 GB SD card. I think it would be a great idea to be able to direct the download of maps to my SD card. //JC.Loui

For phones that have a limited data plane , let us download maps so we can use offline and get traffic as well. This would be very helpful for phones that have a limited data plan.

Provide an option for Waze Users (WU) to download the map details grids in advance of travel. This would be likened to Google Maps feature of downloading map grids in advance of travel from Pt A to Pt B that it detects signal connections could be challenging. Waze could make it even better by allowing WU to force the download of map grid details regardless if "computer" detects questionable download connections or not. Obviously there is still a LIVE data input for the WU (e.g. police, hazard, etc.) but having the map data would greatly curb future download data needed by the app. Thank you in advance for considering, "LT"

There are several ideas about having offline maps, so I won't extend much in that.

I think that something that could be useful for other drivers is to have the areas without phone coverage displayed on the map, or at least get a notification when you are approaching it.

If someone looses coverage, the client should track the point where it lost it, then track everything locally (tracks, user notifications, etc), and when it has coverage again, send the offline navigation data + start and end of coverage locations.

After several users enters the same are, you can average these points and show something in the map, maybe a grayed out overlay, or a notification warning the users.

Also, users entering the dark zone will see the reports from other wazers that already left the zone, they could be outdated, but sometimes it's better than nothing.

For example: You driving in a mountain road, no coverage, and you see a road block because of rocks or snow. You report it, turn around, and when you get coverage all following users will know that that road is closed.
Some other users could find the same issue if they enter the dark zone before you leave it, but at least you are helping the ones that haven't entered the zone yet.
