carpool match
I would like to use Waze to match me with carpool buddies. Waze has a large community of active users, already knows my origin and destination as well as time of day that I leave for and from work. It also has all this information for people in the neighborhood.
If Wazers can indicate if they are open to carpooling, then Waze can help connect them.
There are some apps like Avego that try to help, but because they have such few users, they aren't useful.
Would you prefer to carpool if you could ?
Waze Carpool functionality is under development and testing.

Add the option to switch from “driver” to “hitchhiker” in the app. As a hitchhiker, you inform to Waze where you want to go. When a driver do the same, it will show on the map all the hitchhikers that could be benefited by his route. It’s now up to the driver if he want to pick them up.
It could be possible to change the privacy preferences for:
- showing your routes for all the hitchhikers;
- show only for hitchhikers that are in a specific group;
- show only to your Facebook friends;
- or hide for everyone (if you hated this ideia of giving rides using Waze).Hitchhikers should have your own privacy system too.
When a hitchkiker pick up a ride, he “tell” to the Waze app who is giving the ride. At that moment, they both receive more points per mile, or something like that.
I think this non-anonymous system would solve most of the security issues that a hitch hiker could imply. It could be added a rate system or verified user system.
It would definitely help our planet and give Waze a sustainable catch! :)
Getting the idea of another user (see his post here http://world.waze.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=19760&p=204604&hilit=hitch#p204604), it would also be nice to report hitchhikers on the map if you notice one on a road and don’t want to pick them. This is a nice way to help the hitch hiker community even if them don’t use Waze.

there would need to be logic to recognize one car is not 'increased traffic' in the lane
GPS polling would need be reduced for those vehicles not capable of accommodating multiple charging leads.
It would be simpler for those not fond of personal transportation to cherish their respective warm-fuzzy for carpooling :P

If there are two or more active waze clients in the same car, then you should get a points multiplier, perhaps 2x. This would give wazers an incentive to carpool and help reduce the number of cars on the road. It could also help waze improve the quality of it's GPS recording, since they would be able to average the two different GPS receivers from each phone.
