We plan to work on simulating navigation while driving in a tunnel in the near future. In the meantime, make sure you’ve got the latest version of Waze for all the latest features.

Perhaps the GPS savvy would know more about
* Differential GPS via FM receiver

There are zero map apps that offer dead reckoning:
continue navigation when neither GPS nor data (mobile or wifi) are available. Useful also when insufficient GPS birds viewable.
+ compass
+ accelerometer
+ timeoptionally
* orientation (for fixed mounts)
Given availability of map data those are enough to continue navigation:
. in tunnels
. in parking structures
. in box canyonsThis is especially beneficial for those who do not have (no longer have) aGPS [assisted GPS] features.
But dead reckoning will benefit even those with aGPS.

Waze Carpool functionality is under development and testing.

there would need to be logic to recognize one car is not 'increased traffic' in the lane
GPS polling would need be reduced for those vehicles not capable of accommodating multiple charging leads.
It would be simpler for those not fond of personal transportation to cherish their respective warm-fuzzy for carpooling :P

combine this with trailing/leading police
to create 'target' overlays on the map based on signal density and confirmed coincidence

Waze could also use the accelerometer to
+ mark sections of certain lanes as undesirable.
+ mark curves [turns / bends] where most people sharply decelerated
+ identify lane markers!
Another crafty use of the accelerometer is dead reckoning:
