Me too. I've been an avid user of Waze for a couple years now, but am dropping it since it insists on accessing my contacts. I was already pissed about the recent geofencing thing (using my location when I wasn't using the app!), now I hit this problem with waze asking to access my contacts when I switched to a new phone. Too bad, this _was_ my favorite nav app.

I tried to activate it on my iPad but I am not giving access to my contacts so I will just use it on my phone. This is way too invasive.

Just got a new phone and can't re-open my account without allowing access to my contacts. So disappointed. I really liked Waze but no one is going to force me at allow access to contacts just so I can use an app. This totally violates my privacy and the privacy of my contacts.

Dropping waze do to new requirement to provides contacts.

Can't believe there aren't a lot more people commenting on this thread. I used to be able to send my trip to anyone with just their phone number or email. Now I can't send a trip without giving Waze access to the over 4,000 people on my contact list. PLEASE return our ability to do one-off sending. I'm having to now use Waze to navigate me, but go to Glympse to let people know when I'll arrive.

This is something that worries me as well. I did manage to find a workaround for now but it's only for Android. Go to Menu > My Waze > My Friends and then tap on the area that says 'Share your drive with friends...'. If you have not started navigating to a location, Waze will ask you to start driving. If you have already started the navigation, then Waze will provide an option to add friends or contacts. If you'll see on the lower side, there will be a 'More sending options' link. Click on that and it'll bring up the old 'Share' menu. Options are limited but if you don't see your preferred method, you can always just 'Copy to clipboard', open up your app and paste it there.

I do not trust you for access to contact list. Allow us to send eta to friends and family who do not use waze.
