It would be great if the distance of the alerts was customizable - so that warnings could be provided earlier - maybe even by alert type so that constriuction alerts could be set at 20 miles - and police alerts at 1.
Hey,
Please note we're changing the status of this suggestion to Not right now, since we finalized our plans for 2024 and this idea won't be implemented this year.
We hope to include it in our plans for later down the line.
Thanks!

Have different distances that you can set to be notified of a speed measurement camera for instance one at 800 m another one at 300 m and another last and final warning at 100 m with an audible tone as well.

Please! Add the ability to manually adjust the distance to warnings about speed cameras, accidents, and other hazards.

Make alert distances customizable. The alerts are great but it’s hard to move over when you find out the lane is closed 600ft in front of you. Or that theres 6 miles of traffic that it tells you about after you passed the last exit you could have gotten off or that there’s cops ahead when you can already see them. I believe customizable alert distances for each type of alert could solve this problem. For those who want all the information up front they can have very early alerts. For those who don’t want the annoyance of constant notifications they can have short alert distances. This feature would make the app 10x more useful and customizable to fit each users taste.

Fully agreed! 1 km away is too far away--especially if driving at only 50km/h...that's like over one minute away...needs to be more like only 10 seconds.

I get warnings two to three minutes and 10 city blocks before the camera. I just paid my third speeding ticket using waze.

Adjustable distance setting for alerts e.g. 0.3miles, 0.5miles, 1 mile, 2miles etc from hazard, police.

Just looking back, this same request to have user customizable alert distances has been requested for over 11 years. People clearly really want it, but for some reason Waze doesn't want to do it. Eventually another app will take over that offers this important feature I'm sure.

Add distance configuration for police and radar alerts

Whereas when I'm driving 30 mph (50 kph) and there's a notification for a speed/red-light camera coming up in 600 meters, I'll have forgotten about it by the time I get there.

Modern mobile speed cameras have a detection distance of over 1km (0.6 miles) so the notification needs to be at least 1 mile or maybe more before the reported location. The notification distance should be separate to fixed cameras that have a shorter detection distance.

I have attention deficit and would like to be notified with sound until I pass the alert location.

Agreed. Dependent upon how much of a rush you are in, this is very important. Sometimes you’re only out shopping so it doesn’t matter too much whilst other times you are extremely late to Work or for Work. So for example; I am a nurse where I do house visits & sometimes I need to get to a patient’s address very quickly and to be alerted that a particular route is delayed by traffic, an accident oh a police incident would really really help me in deciding if I need to choose another route. Not letting me know 500 feet away when I’m almost stuck in it guaranteed, but letting me know a good five or 10 miles away so I can make an informed decision. I was also once on a major jewel carriageway and came upon a large fridge freezer that must have fell off the back of a van which lie horizontally across to lanes. I reported it via the app only to come back in the direction an hour later, and it was much further away than I reported because of the time delay between, by the time it took me to click report, what I’m reporting and upload time. If I was a hit such a heavy object at 70 MPH, my vehicle would’ve been completely written off and I would’ve been injured, hopefully not hitting anybody else. Being told much more in advance and having a more accurate location pinpointed is definitely vital to this app.

Warning of speed cameras within 500 meters.
Currently, radars are alerted when we are above the speed of the road exactly 500 meters away. If you are below the road speed at 500 meters, but increased your speed between 500 and 0 meters, the warning does not occur. The suggestion is an "IF" logic. SE: speed distance = 500 meters and speed >= "allowed on the road"; alert ON (this is the one that exists). Suggestion: SE: (Radar distance <=500m and speed > "allowed on the road"; Alert ON). In Brazil, we have radars with a distance between them less than 500 meters. When we pass the first, and increase speed, the second is not alerted. -

Let us choose how far we want to be alerted of something up ahead. For example a box where we can type a value between 0.1 miles/kilometres and 10 miles/kilometres, keeping the decimal value there. Mainly because I think 0.3 miles is a bit too short for things like crashes up ahead or speed cameras etc..

There are countless requests for this, already, however it seems as though they've not been added up together. This really is an easy fix that shouldn't require interaction or trouble with any other app feature. 1/2 mile is simply NOT enough, and I primarily drive in hills and curves - this would be even worse for those on flat land, farms, and desert areas!

Speed camera alerts are given 1/2 mile in advance which is way too soon in a 25 MPH urban environment. Audio alerts should be part of user preferences and provide the option of Alarms as vehicle is 100, 50 and 10 meters away.

Currently, Waze provides an audible alert in terms of time duration to the next turn when it is many miles away. This should change to distance, as it is for shorter distances. Time duration varies from driver to driver and varies based on traffic conditions, whereas alerting a distance is always accurate. Accuracy is important.

In NYC, there are so many speed cameras everywhere. When Waze gives the first warning that a camera is ahead, the driver has so much to focus on, that u can forget once you’re really near the camera. Can you please give us a configurable option for a secondary alert for when the camera is 100 feet away, 50 feet away, etc., if the camera is flashing/relevant for the direction one is driving?

There should be an option for custom selection.

You did a great job. For distance to speed camera 500 m is not enough especially in highway. It’s better to be at least 1km. Now when I hear a warning I have no time to react - the camera is just in front of me!
