It'd be helpful if Ella or another Admin could update the community as to why it was available then not, and if it will return one day ... permanently.

I seem to remember it was very briefly added in a beta version, but was removed again afterwards for some reason. Some countries have now decided that people should always get an alert for a speed camera (usually countries with not too many such cameras), while others have kept the alert configuration the same for their country (only add an audio alert when speeding).

This evidently should just be a user setting, and I also don't consider this idea as "now available".

This was supposedly an added feature back around Feb 2023. It's Jan 2025 and I can't see how to set this in either Android or IOS, and neither seem to always sound alerts for speed cameras. All handsets are set the same ...

Currently, speed camera voice alerts only sound if you are exceeding the speed limit. It should be possible to configure an optional setting where the speed camera alert always sounds, regardless of whether you are above or below the speed limit. This is because you might be driving below the speed limit just before passing the camera, so the alert doesn’t sound, and you’re unaware of its presence. If you then accelerate and pass the camera, you could exceed the speed limit. For this reason, I believe there should be an option to always enable the alert.

Now I use another app in the background just to have this option. I think it is very important to implement this option.

A setting for an audible speed camera alert regardless of driver's speed.

Currently, Waze only alerts of a speed camera when you are exceeding the limit. It would be more ideal to have audio alerts always for reassurance, even when below the speed threshold. Waze doesn’t always capture the correct road speed anyway, so a constant audio alert would be more ideal and is in fair demand from users.

yes, in the uk there are a lot of variable speed limits. The speed limit changes many times during a day. But waze only report voice speed camera while doing over 70 which is the default speed linit.

I may pass the point at which Waze measures my speed, then having missed the map alert inadvertently increase speed before the camera.

Try setting your "Speeding threshold" setting to "At speed limit" rather than any of the other values. That seems to help the sensitivity.

It alerted me to speed camera up until a few weeks ago, then it stopped. I see other people are having the same issue. Why are notifications always audible?

Speed cameras
I would like to have AUDIO speed camera alerts at all driving speeds.
In the UK we have some variable speed limit zones on our motorways, so although the normal motorway speed limit is 70mph, the limit can be changed at any time down to lower speed limits - down as low as 40mph.
Waze alerts you on the map, but only gives you an AUDIBLE alert if you are over the normal / top speed limit of 70mph.
It is easy to miss a changed speed limit sign and then be caught by a speed camera, if for example, the limit is 40, but the previous variable limit sign was 50.
Audible alerts for all cameras, irrespective of current speed would be very beneficial.
