  1. Allow assigning road shields to alternatives names, too

Currently, the WME only allows assigning 1 road shield to the primary name.
This has a lot of limitations:

    • The PN must be unique inside its state
    • If a road has a local name, a Road Shield can only be assigned to the entire road (or the segments must be renamed).

It would be good to be able to assign 1 Road Shields for each alternative name, too (which is even already supported by the data model).

    The Client, could then:
    - randomly pick one road shield to show for that segment (for streets with multiple RS)
    - must also…

  2. Cursor placement when adding a closure

When clicking Add Closure, it makes sense that the cursor automatically populates the Description text box ready for text entry - I'd guess that most editors would make the entry of a closure description the first thing they do when adding a closure, and it's becoming irrationally annoying having to click the text box to do this!

(Even more so now that there's a huge mouse journey from clicking the Closures tab right at the top, to the Add Closure button right at the bottom, back up to the Description box right at the top again.)

  3. Separate layer for natural features

To make it lighter to load the map in WME, it would be great to have all natural features in a separate layer under places to be turned on/off. Notably:
    - Canal
    - Island
    - Sea / Lake / Pool
    - Dam
    - Dessert
    - Forest / Grove
    - Rivers / Stream
    - Natural features
    - Swamp / Marsh

These rarely get URs in any case. It will make it easier and faster to navigate the map, looking for URs.

  4. Show user/app language with UR

In multilingual countries and areas, we never know what language to use when responding to a UR. A driver in Brussels may have their app in French, Dutch, English or German. Our editors are multi-lingual, but can't see which language to use. If we'd see the display language of the app, we'd know directly.

  5. Area Managers Listed in WME

There is a new function in WME Beta to display Area Managers at the top of the map area. The issue is that currently, if there are more than 2 Area Managers that cover an area (which is not uncommon at all), all the editor will see is "Multiple Managers". 2 or less will show the names of the Area Managers.

We would like to suggest that when you hover over "Multiple Managers" that a list will show on the screen of all the Area Managers. When you hover over one of the names in the list, it will pop…

  6. Make URLs in Map Comments clickable

Currently if you add a URL in the top comment box of a Map Comment it is not clickable. You have to save the map comment then add a URL as a conversation comment to get it to be clickable. Please make URLs in the top comment box clickable. This is the comment box that is editable after saving. Here is a link to picture of the problem. https://imgur.com/2Bz4fVt In the picture you can see the top https://www.waze.com/ is not underlined so you can't click it to open the URL. However, the bottom https://www.waze.com/ is underlined and you can click…

  7. Blocking the creation of an item if the corresponding layer is inactive

Editors frequently create an item, such as a Parking Place, only to realise later that there was already a Place at the same location. The initial Place was not visible because the "Place layer" was inactive.
WME does not allow creating closures when the Closure layer is inactive.
The same logic should apply for other types of items, perhaps all items.

  8. WME Advanced Preferences - please correct defaults

"Draw new roads as two-way" and "Draw new roads with all turns allowed" should be on by default but are not. This will prevent a lot of mistakes by new editors.

  9. Display name labels on places

Display name labels over every place, so they're easier to spot when looking at an area at lower zoom levels.

  10. Update Request Management

The "Feed" tab can display pretty random URs and often not ones we need to follow up on. URs in remote areas often are missed.
To reduce response times from editors we need a spreadsheet type view for URs that can be filtered by Country, Province or City.
Filters by type and by editor, or no comments will also be very helpful.

  11. Include vehicle type in UR

Sometimes we get UR we cannot properly handle, because the vehicule type is missing. Sometimes roads are restricted for taxi only, and we get lot of user reports 'like turn not allowed'. We suspect the user have waze set in taxi mode, while they driving their own private car.
If the user report contains that info, it would be easier to identify those UR and to give them with the right answer.

  12. Share Permalink settings should persist between sessions

The new Permalink option has a checkbox to include or not include layers. This is great but whatever option you select should persist between sessions. I should not have to change it every time I open WME.

  13. Have a checkbox to keep the Previous Map Build pop-up on screen

When I am doing a check on changes made to the map, I would like to switch between what was on the previous map build and current WME to see what the changes are.  I know I can go to the Tile Build at the bottom and select it.  However, in order to make sure I don't miss all the changes are, I strongly prefer to switch between previous map build and current WME several times, while keeping my eye in the same area.

With the current implementation, the moment I switch off Previous map build, the pop-up disappears, and…

  14. Respect newlines/paragraphs in the initial base text of Map Comments

Please make WME respect newlines entered in the initial base text of a Map Comment. Currently, WME preserves newlines entered in the comments following the initial base text, but not in the base text itself. Paragraph structure makes text easier to read, so please let us use it when creating Map Comments.

15. Change formatting of forum sharing options

When an editor uses the new forum sharing options which is great, because of the order of the data on the request, valuable information is being overlooked.

For example, the current Unlock Request automatically fills in the following information:

    Hi Editors,

I would like to be able to edit the following segment(s).
Your help would be greatly appreciated.

    Permalink: https://waze.com/en-US/editor?env=usa&lat=29.63406&lon=-104.27920&zoom=5&segments=516527406
    Reason:
    Unlock to level:

    Thank you in advance,

The "reason" and "unlock to level" kind of blend in.

    My suggestions would be to
    1. automatically fill in the "unlock to level" information with the rank of the editor making the…

Congrats! This suggestion is now availble in the WME.

We've update the Unlock Request forum message to a more general message, and now auto-populate the "Unlock to level" field with the requesting user's level. Object types have also been added.

  16. make geonodes easier to find

For really long straight segments, it can be a bit of a pain to find the little handle to make adjustments to the geometry as it is often entirely off-screen. This is especially noticeable now since we're making small adjustments to segments that formerly had no geonodes at all to bring them into better alignment for Falcon.

So as a suggestion - I was wondering how hard it would be to make a tweak to where there's always at least one "add geonode" handle visible on screen when a segment is selected?

At a minimum it would be helpful to…

  17. Add an item under the Place menu for Residential Point Place

Right now, to add an RPP one must select a place type (other than residential) and then click to convert to residential. The vast majority of PPs I add are RPPs and this adds an unnecessary step. This should be simple to add, with no downside.

  18. Remove layer sharing in permalinks

Currently, when making a permalink, you can share your layer settings by checking the "Include layer settings" checkbox. This will add the "s" parameter to the permalink so that anyone who opens it will see the map with your layer settings.
In my experience this feature is literally never used and is frankly quite annoying. If someone sends you a PL this way, you will lose all your own layer settings and have to re-check all the layers that you had enabled.
In my opinion, removing this feature would be the most effective solution as it is never used.

  19. Snapshot Mode vs Current Live Map

The latest release of WME includes relocated snapshot mode, with name changed to "Current Live Map". During beta testing this was pointed out to and noted by staff. Statement was made it would be corrected. Incorrect wording was pushed to production and needs to be changed back to Snapshot Mode.

  20. Segments leading to a Junction box should be Splittable

Currently, when you try to connect an existing segment (segment E) to a segment leading to a Junction Box (Segment L), the WME won't allow to create a Junction.

On the other hand, creating a new segment (segment N), Segment L can be split, but then a saving error will happen (operation not supported).

This different behavior is confusing and it's not easy to understand why it is like that. This mostly looks like a bug to the user when the Junction box is far away and not even on screen.

To fix both problems, WME should allow splitting a…
