Add pause option for stops
Add pause option to client, that could be activated when stopping by at a gas station or other places, so that heavy traffic is not indicated. It could unpause automatically when the car start moving
Thanks for your feedback. At this time, this doesn't fit on our roadmap, but we'll keep it in mind for future product planning.

What I don't understand is why do they have an option to add a stop; but then it doesn't pause the navigation when you get to the stopping point? It's annoying when you get to your stopping point then it tries to continue navigating while you're trying to take care of business at the stop. I have stopped at various places on the way, like Wal-Mart, then Waze is trying to navigate me in my pocket while I'm trying to shop.

What if you need to pause your ride? I definitely agree!

This is less an issue about map contributions and more about UI experience.

I contend a pause optioin is not necessary. When five other Waze users pass you, it is clear that you have stopped for a reason other than traffic. Waze is based on lots of Waze users.

The "Pause Travel" option would very helpful to save data and time when we need to stop in some place for a short period of time.
A lot of times that I needed to stop in a gas station for example waze tried to recalculated the route while I didn't have any internet service. It is a nightmare because I lost a lot of time trying to find a internet signal or typing my route in another device. -

UNDER REVIEW from 2012 ?
May be need to open a new suggestion about same subject ? :-OI think would be better a button to PAUSE that changed to CONTINUE route...
Some times, we need parking in a road... walk until target PLACE (all type/categories)... return to the car walking other time... and only at this moment CONTINUE route... without recording a "fake traffic" on road while parked... ;-)

One of the other navprograms, maybe MapQuest, has a "Pause navigation" feature that doesn't lose the information that's already been downloaded. Because a lot of my routes don't have consistent data service, lots of times Waze becomes useless if I stop for more than a minute or two. I'd love to see that pause possible. It seems to be a pretty basic component.

The annoying thing about the "Sleep Mode" is that it's not really a sleep or a pause, but a deactivate -- meaning they didn't really add a feature at all, just took away the former way to quit the app.
The response when you "sleep" and then "reactivate" the app is identical to if you force quit the app and start from scratch -- slow relaunch, reacquire network, determine if navigation had been running, recalculate route, ask for confirmation. In fact, the old quit was better, because now to "quit" you have to sleep AND switch apps, one extra click each time.
The requested feature was one big, easy to hit button that just halts map data in/out and audio feedback, but better remembers your place intended for short detours -- pulling over to look up something/at something, drive-throughs, etc. Saving battery in such cases is rarely an issue.

What I do is I just click the bottom left Waze icon, which opens the pop-up window, then at the bottom right you will see a button with the power off symbol (circle with a line cutting it).
Once you click this Waze goes into Sleep Mode, it is inactive, doesn't use battery and does not transmit any road data that could create false traffic jam reports, and you have a "Re-activate" button on screen.
When you are ready to go again, just click that and it should ask if you'd like to resume with your previously selected destination.
Granted it is not something automatic, but in my view it does exactly what you are asking here.

It is a function that would help a lot, especially in the case of travel for tourism, where to along the route sights, viewpoints, etc. So no reports of traffic changes is recalculating the route in case of leaving the main road.

This was supposed to have been implemented after 2.2? It's 3.8 now! What happened? Come on!
If we need to pull over because of car trouble, baby trouble, a phone call, or we just want to take a nap, fill fuel or whatever, it would be great to put waze on hold without having to close the app and open it again.
Please, don't forget about this.

I often map my route before a long trip while I still have cell service. However I also often run a few errands before I need the navigation to begin or while in transit. Instead of frequent recalculations or loss of signal it would be great if I could temporarily pause navigation.

Yesterday, I drove from LA to SF. When we stopped for fuel and coffee Waze freaked out, I tried adding a stop but it couldn't find the starbucks that I was sitting in, and instead directed me to one 12 miles away. I would have preferred to pause navigation as I exited the highway, and resumed when I returned.

An option could be to make a pause in a POI. Waze could propose to make a pause at a gas station (within a list of several stations with an indication of prices and distance), a restaurant, WC, shopping ... It could add a detour without modifying the destination.

Suggesting not in traffic seams to make sense normally. As far as I am using Waze as a Biker, I guess, I wouldn't be able to deny that question while standing in a traffic jam because I' wouldn't be able to pull my smartphone out of motorbike jacket especially while wearing gloves which is quite normal ;-)
While riding to work each day with a stop at the bakery I also wouldn't pull it out, end wave and restart again later. So if you ever come to my hometown in Germany don't even wonder, if there is a jam each morning ;-)
So I'm no developer and I wouldn't know which logical action could solve these two sides of the medal.
But I thought the hint on bikers could be worth to mention. -

A play /pause button would halt the power use and leave Waze suspended until needed later in the journey. This would save battery power when off connection or walking

Would also like to maybe tie this in with the option to auto-close when you reach your destination - I keep killing my battery because I forget to turn waze off when I arrive.

Gas station roads on map must be made using parking-lot or service road types. Waze system such type of roads doesn't take in account when computing traffic load. So be easy. If You are at parking or gas station, You automatically are not in traffic. But....only if map editors used right categories of roads. That must be fine in 99.99% of cases.
