Stop routing traffic down quiet residential streets
Your app has a very narrow focus. It doesn't take the actual street or the people that live on it into consideration. I have lived on a very quiet residential street until your app has increased in popularity. Thanks to your app, our street is now like a mini-highway and two neighbor pets have recently been killed. Additionally, your ignorant app doesn't take into consideration that it is directing traffic to take a very dangerous left turn onto Briarcliff Road. The results have been numerous accidents. Please take Stephens Drive, 30329 off your cut throughs at once.
Thanks for your feedback. At this time, this doesn't fit on our roadmap, but we'll keep it in mind for future product planning.

Do NOT let Waze direct drivers through neighborhood routes. Waze has created significant threats to life safety in the Bridlemile neighborhood of PORtland Oregon. During rush hour, residents can't exit neighborhood on to north bound dosch road, and have gotten stuck in never seen before lines of cars all the way down to downtown portland resulting in delayed pick up of kids, missed appointments, missed plane flights, etc. A normal 7 min journey today was 28 mins. A group of neighbors are researching a class action lawsuit - gathering data from neighbors and drivers.

I use Waze in my 38ft motorhome. Occasionally Waze will tell me to take a shortcut through a residential area to save time/distance then put me right back on the same highway. That is a shortcut that is just not worth it. I would love to see a feature that avoids those kind of shortcuts. Maybe add a tolerance, ie avoid shortcut unless it saves me 5min or 2 miles of distance.

There are >21 children on this tiny street below the age of 12. If given "Cut Through" status on Waze type driving apps, it's not a matter of if - but when - a child will get hit. Please save this street from cars and trucks that have zero business being on it to save three seconds.

I absolutely agree that there has been a big increase in cars and they are driving way to fast!!! There is no time savings in using Rolling Lane as a cut through and the risk of a child getting hurt is too great!

Agree wholeheartedly. The cost/benefit of the turn is absolutely negative. Risk of running over a child vs. benefit of <15 second time gain isn't worth it. Please remove Rolling Lane as a cut through.

I live on Rolling Lane and the increase in speeding cars since the Waze app has become popular is significant....I vote to remove our street as a cut through...I have three kids that play out front and this would make it much more safe for them.

Recently the side street that I live on (Rolling Lane in Needham MA) has had significantly increased traffic. Typically the only people who traverse this street live on the street; however, there are now many more cars that go flying down the street just to shave 10 seconds off of the proper turning corner (Brookside and Forest streets). There are many small children on this street who are not used to the high traffic and high volume of cars. I worry about a child getting hit. Could you adjust your program to remove Rolling Lane as a cut through street? Thank you in advance. Susan Murdock

We've a similar problem where traffic between two feeder roads to a bridge backs up so much on our residential street that I've to wait in traffic up to 10 mins, to enter my own driveway from around the corner!
And I've had to wait 2-3 minutes to back out of my driveway and join the traffic, because (obviously) they're in a rush to get to their destination and can't show me the courtesy of letting me get on to my own street!
I had my suspicions about whether or not to blame this on waze, but two good friends of ours recently admitted that they've driven down our street by following waze directions..... and they don't even live in this city! They were both sent down here while they were trying to avoid clogs on the freeway.
I would really like it if we could mark streets as 'residential' or 'with kids playing!!' and waze would honor that by not sending traffic down those streets! -

Waze re-routing is killing city streets. WAZE needs to allow city officials to identify certain streets as critical to local traffic and those with high pedestrian traffic and BLOCK them from routing freeway traffic to. The 3 local streets in my town are complete gridlock every Friday, Saturday and Sunday now. I've lived here 15 years, this never happened before. It's very dangerous given the high level of bicycle and pedestrian traffic and can't possibly be saving anyone any real time.

Like, routing hundreds or thousands of cars through their previously quiet neighbourhoods is bound to cause upset... and you should not ignore that.
You should deal with it properly. Certainly if you're so smart, preventing to be fooled by false reports and all that, there's no reason you couldn't do something constructive for them, too. So, get to it.

Not everyone uses waze, maybe your street is just a good way to cut off some piece of the road from A to B, and lots of people come to the same conclusion to drive through your neighbourhood.
Trying to change it in waze will probably not have an impact, probably better to try and make the street itself safer, having government make the street less wide, speed bumps, ...

We live in a small neighborhood in Granada Hills, CA USA. When there is an issue with the 118 FWY or major streets, e.g. Balboa, - WAZE is directing drivers through our small neighborhood streets. We have 3+ elementary and middle schools in this area. The drivers are disrespectful, drive very fast, sometimes DO NOT STOP AT listed stop signs, and clog the area so residents cannot reach their home. WAZE should restrict usage of smaller neighborhood streets for re-directing LARGE amounts of traffic through the area.
It has become dangerous and chaotic to drive in our small neighborhood

Please STOP directing cars through our neighborhood especially in the mornings between 7am-9am. Our streets have become parking lots and they were never designed to accommodate this amount of traffic.

I live in this neighborhood and even walking is hazardous! LaTijera and 59 St. Is also an accident waiting to happen. I have to cross between cars on Slausson and Kings Rd. To get home from my gym (24 hr Fitness).

Stop directing traffic to use Kings Rd and La Tijera Blvd. (90056) as an alternative to La Cienega Blvd; its creating havoc in our neighborhood. Our neighborhood streets have become parking lots with the excess use of these streets. Please modify yourdirecrikns in your app.

Greenways are not motor vehicle prohibited, but they are for local access only (not intended for cut-through traffic). Is there a map edit that can accommodate that level of access?

NicolasWaisman commented
Are they officially for non motorists? There are changes that can be made at Map Editor level in order to tell Waze not to choose these drives.
Please contact your local editing community. -

I don't work for Waze, but maybe it's not even a Waze problem... do all people driving through your mini-highway use Waze?
For the rest a street is a street, the route is a consideration of distance and speed. Supposing people will still need to drive from origin to destination, if they don't take your street they will take another street, traffic will not decrease in general.
I did once create a proposal that would help your problem (not 100%): https://www.waze.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=657&t=113062 ... I do admit current waze (jan 2016) makes some very bad street choices sometimes.
For the quick and dirty quick fixes....
- Talk to government to make your street less hospitable for speedy cars... speedbumps, flowerpots on the side
- Annoy Waze.... report police control in your street, report "street closed because of work" ... if you do the latter ... not nice to waze, but you don't want to be I guess... you can see whether it has an impact... If you report the street as closed for x days and there's no decrease in traffic, it's not a waze problem since waze will not route through your street then. -

I've noticed an extremely dangerous navigation issue in the Waze app. In my hometown of Portland, Oregon there are roads officially designated as Neighborhood Greenways which are designed essentially as safe passageways for non-motorized traffic. And of course, they are filled with dog walkers, strollers, bikes, joggers etc. Naturally, they are sandwiched safely between two parallel higher traffic corridors. And naturally, the Waze app diverts traffic from these designated thoroughfares onto the Greenways!! What results is a very dangerous mix of vulnerable population blending with drivers out to get an edge on their speedy commute.
