Client consumes too much power/Turing off the screen pauses recording the new road
Since I don't have a car, I usually walk or take a bus when using waze(So I can't charge the battery while using Waze). It looks like waze consumes too much power. I have nokia n5800. I used the phone with waze turned on, and about a 30 to 50min of using waze consumed more than half of the battery life. Backside of the phone was scorching. Waze should find a way to optimize the client with respect to Drawing screen/Frequency(method) of internet access/GPS usage.
Also, when I put the client background using menu button of the phone in order to make a call or send a message, Waze stops recording a new road. When I come back to Waze, the map shows "I didn't work while you're making a call" with discontinued road record, it continues to record a new road. Same is true when I turn off the screen with side-lock slide. First I though "OK, in this way, I can save the battery life". But of no luck. It just stops recording the new road even it was running foreground.
I planned to use Waze while I take a cross country bus, but with this battery consuming rate and inability to record in background of the system, My plan would be just a dream. I hope Waze be more optimized and convenient to use.

I have an iPhone and a broken car power socket. Even if waze or running in background it takes loads of power. A simple processor halt for that app would help maybe a play/payees button that actually halts processor requirement.

I've noticed this to on a 5800 !
Consumption is very excessive and my car charger is not strong enough to compensate !! -

Using waze while walking contributes bad data. The bad usability on your phone is twofold: Battery capacity and gps/3g/gprs chip power usage. If you have a phone with a lower battery capacity and a power hungry radio you can bet using it all drains your battery quickly. Also, wrongly using your battery can drastically decrease it's capacity. This cannot be solved in software, as it is a hardware issue inherent in your phone.
The fact that your phone gets hot is a obvious sign your battery gets drained fast or your chip is working at peak capacity.
Most waze users use either a more powerful phone which has a better battery, or use a car dock with charger.
