Lane Guidance
While using Waze on highways lately, I have begun to think that having the ability to see what lane becomes the off ramp would be great, especially in complex city interchanges.
Great news! The Lane Guidance feature is now available in Waze. Install the latest app version to check it out.

Great idea!

I like the idea. I think whatever is selected has to be audio AND display though as I have turned off all but alerts due to how chatty the directions get during my regular commute. This idea reminds me of a feature in what I used before Waze. It drew a picture of the number of lanes with those that were exits and the audio prompts did not change.

as quoted from some fellow wazers
would be useful
for countries with more sofisticated HW networking
but anything that emphasizes or clarifies routing
is welcomegreetings wazers

While careful junction design on the Waze map can help drivers, there are some situations on multi-lane interstates where more explicit lane instructions will make for safer driving.
Some examples:
1. Two lanes exit left, so if you want to stay on the road, you need to merge right. Waze won't give any verbal instruction because it doesn't think you're getting off at this interchange.2. A two-lane right exit, where the right lane of the exit quickly becomes an exit-only lane. Again, Waze won't give any instruction because you are going straight along the ramp, not exiting. (Some very careful design might evoke a "stay left" instruction here, but even then the driver may not realize that she must be in the left-hand exit lane.)
3. On a four-lane road approaching a clover-leaf interchange from the west, the far right lane is exit-only south-bound, and the second lane is exit-only northbound. If you've only gotten an "exit right" message, you could easily be in the wrong lane if you're going northbound. Likewise, if you're through-traffic, Waze should flag you to be in one of the left-hand lanes.
All these capabilities are in Google's app and most commercial GPS systems. Waze should be developing plans to add it.

How much does one need for lane guidance? In my experience (US) Waze instructions are well enough in advance to give you ample time. All one has to do is listen for the prompt of exit/ turn quickly look at the screen for a reference and keep an eye on the big green sign. It's called paying attention. Also, where does it stop... I just received an UR about how the road goes from 3 lanes to 2 and "Waze didn't prompt them that the lane they were in merges into the other"

I agree this would help with not getting UR's on this issue. I have missed my exit in Miami because it was hard to tell what exit to get off on b/c the app was zoomed out.

I don't know about your countries but the high level editors in my country did a great job on the few highways we have and waze tells you exactly what to do: "keep left" "exit right"... sorry for the expression but: It's stupid proof :D

To us Latvian is not very complicated intersections, but in any case we a long time ago in ramps use pointers to where it leads. In client all very beautiful works.

People don't even listen to the directions to get into turn lane. Add this to having to add speed limits to all roads. Lane guidance can help in some instances like when leaving toll plaza and need to be left or right but will mean many roads have to be redone.
For the commenter that says he handles 10 URs about this hah. There are more than 10 URs a day in DC area about the Express Lanes (HOT- high occupancy toll) and where the lanes are parallel and close it does not differentiate between the two. So you get the exit was on wrong side. So how will the Waze technology differentiate between lanes when it can't event do adjacent road segments. -

I have an exemple in France too and I had to make something really dirty to make this "work"

I can show examples here in NY all over the place..... I handle at least 10urs a month.... This would help.....

due to inaccurate GPS i believe a verbal guidance like "exit left" or "exit right" might be the preffered solution. Although this problem doesnt exist in all countries. In the netherlands 99% of all highway exits are on the right and the road signs indicate how many lanes are exiting. i believe waze should help the user find its way, not take over to a point where drivers blindly follow the instructions.

yes..will be great

There is a problem: civilian GPS is deliberately limited in accuracy. As it is, Waze must guess which of several parallel roads you might be on, based on the directions it has given you.
It assumes you followed the given directions. If you didn't, it doesn't know until you get about half a block away from the given route or turn in a direction that would be impossible if you were 'on course'.
Yes, it would be nice if each lane was mapped and Waze directed you accordingly, however it is not currently possible because of the limitations designed into civilian GPS. -

It will be very useful in my country too. we have a lot of complex interchanges here.

This would be great! A "Merge Left" and "Merge Right" might also help to prompt you into the correct turning lane. I have an old Sony GPS unit that had this verbal "merge" commands and miss them...
