Increase police warning distance
Waze users are warned of speed traps or police presence only about 600 feet ahead of time. This is far too late of a warning. With a clear line of sight, law enforcement can detect speeders at 1-2 miles out.
By the time the Waze warning pops up, you could have already been detected.
This feature – while very well intentioned and thought out – is useless with so little warning.

What we are aiming to do here is speed based alerters.

I'm on the side of life, safety, continued good health, at all times, but Lee Sprague offers a cogent Big Picture argument that doesn't compromise any of those wishes while making the case for slightly better warnings here. The core of his argument is to curb screen time, AND to adapt to real world road conditions. The safest speeds? Always. But realism about today's road conditions, and perhaps all the moreso in a COVID context, where there are a lot of open roads out there. Upvoting Lee's point.

I don't want to zoom out and have to watch my screen. That's less safe than speeding. Alerts also include other important things, like debris on road, potholes, cars on shoulder. So making the distance alert customizable helps keep our eyes on the road and more alert earlier to be able to react. It's a simple request and feature. Anyone latched onto this being a speeding issue by telling commenters here to slow down and that asking for this is unnecessary isn't grasping the big picture. Please let us set alerts for farther distances (1 mile, 2 miles...)

It’s right and the same increase timr should be applied to report.

Hi, can we increase the distance of a police alert. Mine is set at 0.2 miles which is not enough if they have radar guns they have got you before you know they're there.

Radars hit with a laser for 1.5 km. The navigator warns too late. It is necessary to give a warning about the radar for 1.5 / 2 km, so that the driver has time to equalize the speed. And it also concerns warnings about the police, they are too late now.

Ive been using waze for years now. I would suggest a feature that would allow you to move a alert you post back a distance. Sometimes by the time you see an object on the road and post it you are way past it. Maybe a move back 100 yards or 300 yards or 500 yards button.

If you are using Waze to avoid speeding tickets, forget it. Most experienced driver use Waze and good radar detector in tandem, Even this might not help if you come across officer using Instant On. So pay attention.
But I would prefer warning to be a little louder. -

"Next turns" has a countdown in distance (miles/km).
"Reports ahead" should have the same countdown in distance.
Would be very useful for CarPlay and for drivers who always take the same roads. -

Yes please, many valleys can easily be over a half-mile wide, and you can get LIDARed easily from that range. Give us time to slow down, please.

If you put so much attention in avoiding a ticket, why can't we get more attention that could save a life. Please add the Slow Down and Move Over!!!

I get Police alerts generally at the Half Mile range (2600 feet) just like I do for all other alerts.

simplify and speed up input AND give realistic range of hazard location descriptions. On "Identify Hazard Location" page put a touch-selectable graphic to choose (right to left): far right edge (weeds), right shoulder (gravel), right edge of road (painted line), right lane, middle lane, left lane, left edge of road, left shoulder, far left edge, median. Don't tell me "vehicle on shoulder" and have me watching the RIGHT shoulder only to HIT some guy parked almost on the median...

It would be nice if there was a distance marker, like the concentric circles on radars in movies, that shows how far away an icon is. When I'm driving on the highway in the middle of nowhere, there's nothing that lets me judge the distance to an alert. I can't tell if the icon is a mile away or 5 miles away. Concentric circles around the car every 1/4 mile, for example, would fix this.

When will this be available?

Waze needs to enact this suggestion immediately.

Les distances d’alertes sont beaucoup trop courtes ! Il faut avertir des obstacles au moins 3 km en avance pour ce qui est des autoroutes. S’inspirer des distance d’alerte du coyote par exemple. Merci.

I most certainly agree!! Longer range required.

I agree. This setting should have a default, allow it to be user defined, and give the user the ability to set a variable tracking feature related to the speed at which s/he is travelling. Excellent suggestion.
