walking mode button
Have you thought about a walking mode button. So if you have waze on you don't get false data that traffic is at a stand still when you are walking.
Many thanks Andrew warren
Thanks for your feedback. At this time, this doesn't fit on our roadmap, but we'll keep it in mind for future product planning.

When I walk to my car, I start waze, because getting GPS lock needs some time. So in that time I may cause some false traffic alert. So yes, walk mode please

Different modes of transportation (walking, bicycle, motorcycle, car) are very important. It's important to realize that in today's urban landscapes, most people use a wide range of transportation options - often even within the same trip.
There are enough commonalities between the different modes to warrant including them in the same navigation application. Waze would benefit hugely from supporting other modes of transportation. The whole concept of crowd-sourced map data is extremely well suited for integrating information from the various modes.

@bummer - why have ten apps with the same basic (programming point of view) functionality?
Waze is great, waze has the infrastructure needed - waze should be good enough for biking and walking.
A pedestrian mode - also suitable for biking - that's great!

I am a blind Iphone user and I use Waze, I find it very handy even I don't drive.
Please make a walking feature so more V.I users could experience this great app.PS: We could give up using apps such as Navigon which does have a Ped mode.

I would love this. I walk more than I ride in cars and would use it all the time.

I've walked around my local town centre to map the roads there. Access to the is restricted - certain types of vehicles at certain times of day - so the easiest way for me to get them on waze was to walk. It worked fine.
But I do agree with this proposition anyway.

I think those two requests is the same: http://waze.uservoice.com/forums/59223-client-how-can-we-improve-waze-on-your-phone-/suggestions/825243-use-vehicle-type

Hey - you do NOT need Waze for walking and Hiking. Specialized apps exist like "Walk Tracker Free", "MotionX GPS", "RunKeeper", "EveryTrail" and whatselseyouvgot. All are SPECIALIZED for hiking and walking, with support for audio and video-recording, sharing of trails and many other features ideal for walking and hiking that Waze will probably not be going to support in the near future. Waze is unique in its support for motorized traffic and will not benefit in the least by walkers - the best a "Walking mode" will do in Waze is totally ignore the GPS-track you are making while walking. Big deal. Do not waste your votes on an option that only supports walking - there is ANOTHER app for that!

I would use a "walk mode" to map walking trails, which in my area are well away from any roads. I agree that it would also be useful to be able to walk/bike to record house numbers, without messing up speed measurements & connectivity on existing roads.

Yes!
Before walking out to take the car to visit a client, Waze could then tell me the different time estimates by using different transport-methods:
By car: 45 minutes (heavy jams all the way)
By bike: 32 minutes (and it´s sunny too!)
By foot: 42 minutes (assuming no obstacles except water) -

Multiple modes would be awesome. Pedestrian, cyclist, motorcyclist, public transportation, taxi, and an at home mode would be awesome. I like to run Waze at home, and just see what's going on around my area. People are very friendly, and sometimes like to say "hi." I drive a motorcycle, and love the turn by turn directions, but I'd hate to feel like I could screw up someone's day by leading them into thinking there was no traffic, seeing I can drive 10-30 MPH between cars that are at a stand still. I guess I shouldn't feel too bad, seeing they have an icon for a motorcycle.
I take public transportation sometimes, lately a lot, seeing my motorcycle keeps breaking down. I guess it would be best to just turn off Waze while on a metro rail line, but it's such a neat little program, full of interesting things. Plus I wanted to see how Waze would react. It freaked out, saying I was all over the place. If there was a mode for Public Transportation, and it had an option to add a metro rail, or bus route, I think that would be awesome.
My thought is... People are going to use Waze, regardless of what situation that their in. On a walk, riding a bicycle, riding the metro rail system, going 10 MPH faster then everyone while riding their motorcycle, and posting things on FourSquare, since Waze makes it so easy. Adding "Modes" will help the average driver who uses Waze to find the fastest, safest route, wherever their day might take them, without misinformation from people like me, who just enjoy Waze because it's so damn cute!

I totally agree.Wwhen recording tracks, I find it much easier to cycle round housing estates rather than drive in my car which can look a little suspicious.

We need a way to distinguish between various vehicle-types; this would do all the things asked for now as taxis, motorcycles, walking, bicycling.
Check this suggestion:

Together, the suggestions along these lines I've found for "modes" get more than 90 votes when combined, so this is clearly a much-wanted feature for the client. There are topics in the Client Forum as well as this Cartouche/waze.com website one. I put a list of links to them in the Motorcycle mode topic.

There are also calls for Motorcycle mode, Bike Mode, Pedestrian Mode and Stopped/Park Modes.

Also as i'm walking i don't want waze to mistakenly report back that the actual traffic movement speed is my walking speed.
Similarly, if i'm riding a bus that drives on a bus lane, while it might be going full speed, all the regular cars around me are standing still, wouldn't want to report back misleading info. Or if i'm riding on an above-ground subway, some of the lines in NYC go right above some streets, wouldn't want to make it seem like traffic is moving.Maybe more than a 'walking mode', it should be 'pedestrian' mode?
