A button for HOV or non-HOV
There should be a button to tell Waze whether the car is in the HOV lane. 1), it would help Waze better determine traffic speed since it wouldn't average Wazer's in the HOV lanes with the speeds of those driving slower. 2), the Map would/could show the average speed of HOV or non HOV speeds. A Wazer in the HOV lane could really impact the accurate speed average shown (and vice versa).

Great thinking! The issue you raised has been addressed in a recent redesign. Hope you like it!

I'll give that a try, but it doesn't make a ton of sense to me to designate my private vehicle as a taxi just to gain HOV routing.

This response does not address the idea. If a segment is only available for HOV+2, meaning there are two or more people in the vehicle, then how does a Wazer convey to Waze that they are compliant with the HOV+2 law and offer the segment as a route? When choosing a route, if a route requires HOV+2 (or more) compliance, Waze should ask the user before allowing the route. The current list of HOV passes and tag systems does not have HOV+2 as an option, moreover, this vehicle status changes on every trip. I would not expect a user to add or delete their owned passes to declare HOV+2 or not. This needs to happen.

Give me an option (in Settings???) to eliminate the car pool button. I primarily drive for my job and can NOT car pool. The button just takes up space that could be used for other map functions.

Please do not close requests to allow DISABLING HOV lane here as "Now Available (ENABLING available for taxis)". This is dishonest and disrespectful to users and it feels almost like we have a rogue Waze staff here who really want to suppress the complaints.
This mandatory HOV routing caused me to waste hours because I miss highway exits and almost crashed because I had to change 5 lanes to get out of HOV left lanes to take the non-HOV exit! How dare Waze dropped this nasty app behavior change on us! If people got into accidents because Waze forced HOV lanes on everybody, they should be liable for lawsuits!
This HOV routing menace is a deal breaker for me to stop using Waze altogether!

I realize “there’s no plans for new HOV features” but this is making google maps take the edge. I can’t legally take the HOV lane most of the time but that’s the route that’s constantly planned out for me and it’s frustrating waiting for the GPS to recalibrate every time I don’t go into the HOV lane. Not even “changing to taxi” creates a toggle so I’m not sure why that’s always the suggestion

Please an an option to not be in the HOV lane. It’s still being tested where I am - Highway 880 in the San Francisco Bay Area. Drivers don’t know how to use it properly. It becomes a faster than fast lane. And don’t tell me to “To change your vehicle type go to Settings > Vehicle type. There are currently no plans to add more HOV options.” because I already use the Private vehicle option and the HOV navigation shows up. There is no non HOV option. I won’t use the HOV lane!!! Please be courteous to us users and add the option.

I drive HOV in Virginia every work day. Yet it is NEVER an option for me (WAZE via Android Auto). I can't even search for the route, AND it doesn't show up when I'm in the HOV lanes (WAZE insists I get off). Virginia does not require HOV passes/tags/etc., just 3 occupants and today I was over 30 minutes late because of an accident in the HOV. But I wouldn't actually know it wasn't the best route because it's never an option anyway. But the weird thing is that my husband CAN get it as a suggestion (WAZE via Android Auto as well), and I can't find ANY setting in my WAZE app that would change that for me. So if I could just mark that somewhere it would be amazing.

Hi, I have noticed if I add my CAV decal in toll and HOV passes I get different options than if I remove it, and sometimes the options of the one not chosen are better. Would be great to get best possible route if HOV passes are added, even if that route is what you would get without the pass, and vice versa. Best possible is to combine both and get best possible. Thanks!

I agree, a simple toggle on the HOV lane would be helpful. Maybe an easy way to turn it off/on depending number of passengers.

Create separate toggle buttons to allow users to turn on/off options for (1) HOV Lanes and (2) Toll Roads. Currently, Waze bundles the two options together. However HOV lanes are not an options for single drivers during peak times even at a toll price. Being able to turn off HOV lane feature and leave on Toll Roads would be fantastic.

WAZE keeps trying to force me into the HOV lanes, when I in fact have only one person in the car. On my route to work, every single route option provided is HOV. I do not qualify for HOV and I do not want any HOV routes. I desperately need to turn this off! Worse yet, even when I self select the non-HOV route, WAZE keeps giving the directions (e.g "Exit right") as if I were on the HOV lane. The directions are WRONG for the place in the road where I actually am but WAZE keeps giving me this bum steer. This is the most important issue for my commute and it is not a minor matter. It is also absolutely implausible that an app that prides itself on flagging even trivial things like a stalled car or a pothole on the route, cannot find a way to deal with this incredibly important practical issue. Reading the comments it is clear this has been an issue for a long time. Why is it not fixed?

Agree, though for a different reason. The current system lumps HOV and toll preferences, so it puts you in HOV lanes if you have toll tags selected, even if the lanes don't allow non-compliant vehicles for a toll.

Tell the Waze programmers that there is a thing called HOT and HOV. Email me if you need me to explain it.

Agree! And add a feature to tell Waze that you have left the HOV. I am an HOV stickered vehicle in SOCAL, but due to heavy cheating, HOV often moves slower than the rest. Since I am assumed to be where Waze tells me (and it is often slower than non-HOV), but I leave the HOV and travel in the other lanes, Waze actually thinks the HOV is moving faster than it is.

Stop telling me to get in and out of the HOV lanes. You don't know if I'm using them, and it adds a ton of directions in and out of the HOV. You are frequently wrong as to which lane is moving more quickly, and it is annoying. Maybe one day, you will figure out how to track our movement in lanes better, and then it will help, but that day is not yet here.

Between people requirements of up to 3+ and high prime time HOV was pricing, some times for little time difference, I agree with this idea. I can no longer get accurate travel times because part of my route will always be a toll but to “remove” the HOV option I have to turn off tolls.

HOV Lane Choice
Let the users choose whether they are in the HOV Lane or not, if the GPS could possibly be a bit off. Would be good if a driver stays in the HOV Lane on accident, or doesn't get in on time

Yes! Please add option to “avoid HOV.” I have a daily stretch where I’m on a freeway for an hour and waze tells me to get in and out of an HOV Lane 10 times! It’s become so irritating, I no longer use Waze.

Plenty of ways to customize Waze for HOV... as a Maryland resident, I can ride my plug-in hybrid in Maryland HOV lanes but not in Virginia HOV lanes. Similarly a Virginia resident could ride in Virginia HOV abut not Maryland HOV.
I can use Waze on my phone on my motorcycle and be okay in both Maryland and Virginia HOV lanes.
I would very much like to be able to manage how Waze provides direction based on my HOV preference. At the moment I have to guess how quickly the HOV traffic is moving on my ride home and simply ignore whatever Waze is telling me about my route. It defeats the purpose of having real time traffic.
