Add a traffic bar to map
Have a "Traffic Bar" that appear in the routes screen overlayed on the main map.
add a car to the bar that moves along with your journeys completion.
So when you are 85 percent home, the car has moved 85 percent up the bar.
Also when the Bar-Car (Maybe we should think of a better name) gets near an event an audible alert gets triggered, like when you near a Cop it could say “Oh cock, its the Rozzers!” Or just “Police reported ahead”) Or when you are near a obstacle on road you could be warned – e.g. “Johnny reported a car has stopped on the shoulder 20 minutes ago.” This way you can keep your eyes on the road instead of having to look at the screen to see what’s ahead.
The bar information would be dynamic – if traffic started building up ahead another section of the bar would change colour depending on the conditions.
Having the bar would make the app safer to it users, because you would have all warning along the route in one predictable place. Unlike the current situation where you have to zoom in and out to see what conditions are like for a entire route.
Having the bar would make the app smarter, because you would get all road information sooner. Having this information right on the bar makes for better decision making by the driver, again because all the information is visible right from the start.

Great thinking! The issue you raised has been addressed in a recent redesign. Hope you like it!

Really need this. Many of us drive for work and frequently, often on unfamiliar routes.
I need to know of slowdowns, hazards, traffic etc well before i reach them.
A journey bar is essential.
Please also look at Sygic, it implements one as a thin line acroos the bottom edge of the map view, its unobtrusive, functional and better suited to using nav on phones in portrait mode.

Tomtom can do it. Without it waze just keeps getting deleted from my phone i go back to tomtom. 3 months on I reinstall waze again to see if a traffic bar is there and it’s not... repeat!

This is a great idea, I have to open the route information continuously to see this information to see if anything has changed on the route. If it was there on the front screen then it would be much safer to glance at it than have to open it. Of course you can make it an optional feature like the speedometer.

Wanted to propose exactly the same!

This is a great idea implemented well in Yandex navigator. Would also be nice to have traffic overlay on the route line itself (main section), but maybe a subject of a different thread.

+1 for me with the option to turn it off for users that don't want it and option to turn on/off different alert types....

Personally, I would prefer it to be slightly less crowded so I wouldn't have speed cameras and general alerts (car stopped on hard shoulder etc.) and focus on actual delays (red and amber colours) so as not to overcrowd the display. It would be really good to know if you were coming up to a traffic jam before you got there...

I like the idea, adding the distance to the next element in the bar would be nice. I will include speed cameras also in the bar. Instead of moving the car along the bar, I would keep the car at the bottom and show in the bar only the upcoming notifications.

If you want this feature, use MapQuest. I do not want any additional stuff on the screen.

not necessarily there has to be a "bar-car", just fade out / dim / black out the part of the bar you already passed.. perhaps add a percentage in this area.
So you just have to update the rest of the bar with traffic information, so you can see where the next traffic jam is waiting for you.. -

I'm waiting for this feature for a wile now. It would be very helpful to have. I use waze every day just for traffic info. So please plan this feature because it will increase the value of this app for daily use!
It would be very handy if the traffic delay is displayed as well.

This becomes a necessity in busy areas such as mine (SF Bay area) and I really miss this feature.
To take it one notch higher, by pressing on this route bar, It could take us to the route selection screen to choose a better route if we want to.
Please implement it; you already have the engine for the route display in the client app so please move it to the main screen as the image in this thread shows. -

This would be a really useful feature! It would be great to be able to look at the screen and know if there's traffic up ahead and not have to try and scroll the screen to check on the conditions while driving.

Totally agree this feature is needed. I travel long distances each day and it's hard to now if I should take an alternative route without seeing all the incidents ahead. It would also be useful if the bar alternates in shade I.e. light grey, slightly darker grey, for road changes so you can identify if the incident coming up is on the road you are currently on! This way I should be able to ascertain if I should avoid the M25 for example.

The app really is becoming frustrating without this feature. It will always be severely lacking until proper upcoming traffic display is implemented. We need this traffic bar, need to know the distance to next event, length of event and the delay, number of events on the route and overall delay.
Just look at tomtom. They do it very well. It's essential and Waze is not a true traffic outsmarting app without this.
