Avoid steep roads
It happened to me that I had to go north at night, and waze suggested me to drive through a steep and dangerous road, when the alternative was via Highway 4.
The alternative was 10 minutes longer, but sometimes drivers would prefer to travel in a non-hazardous ways even if it takes longer.
In my opinion, consider adding the "Avoid steep roads" option (similar to "Dirt roads" or "Avoid toll roads").

All caravanners would appreciate this. Nearly burned my brakes out descending a mountain in Austria. Quite scary. Smoke coming from wheels. Was very lucky to find a stopping point to rest a while and cool it down.

I would like to have the option to avoid hills. I know this may seem funny but when you are driving major cities with hills it can really get on your nerves and I would like to avoid as many hills as possible. I really don't mind if it makes my commute a bit longer!

thoughts on implmentation: Need access to elevation data. That's already in Google someplace because Earth has it exposed to users. Already have endpoints for road segments which implies length is obtainable. For short segments, just need elevation of endpoints. If segment is longer than some appropriate distance, need to derive midpoints to check for internal hills. Then use elevation and length to put a slope absolute value on every segment, and avoid segments that have any internal slope higher than some value (maybe 5%?).
Benefit cases in addition to original post ones: heavy towing, slippery conditions. Just imagine how much fun Seattle or San Francisco must be if it snows....

Still an issue a year later, and in New England. I know there are ways around a steep hill here that has a stoplight just before its crest (what city-planning genius designed THAT), but it's the way Waze takes me if I forget. In a front-wheel drive, stopping and starting right there is crazy dangerous. Please add a setting to avoid steep hills!

LA hills are terrible to drive on. We were visiting from TORONTO and some of the hillls that waze sent us were treacherous. I suspect There wasn’t much traffic on those roads because the locals know better! :). Waze should avoid very steep hills.

When requesting directions the app could determine by location if current temp is below freezing and ask if directions should avoid steep roads to avoid being directed via a route that has icy inclines/declines.

Like any good idea, this has probably been suggested before; however, I'd like to see a snow/ice routing option.
Basically, this would heavily favour major roads (as being the most likely ploughed/sanded/salted). I'd also like to see it avoid significant changes in inclination (>10 degree hills).
I use Waze all the time, but recent snowfall in Vancouver forced me to ignore the routing suggested in order to avoid slippery hills and uncleared minor roads.

My Chrysler 300 doesn't do well in the well and I can't afford to just switch vehicles so making a "
Avoid steep
Hills" option would be great because it would prevent collisions -

Suggested improvement: allow setting to avoid climbs / hills that some vehicles can not get through.
