option to report a train crossing.
Train crossing/stopped etc....
Great thinking! We’ll share with the team; they’re always interested in new feature ideas.

People in the area of SE Portland, OR, often get stuck behind trains at 11th/12th and Division. I think that an effective way to prevent them for getting stuck for upwards of 20 minutes would be to alert them in Waze and provide a reroute option.

It would be great to report if a train is crossing and traffic is stopped. Would allow others opportunity to detour.

This type of junction should be announces and should be set as permanent dangerous road hazard.
Waze is a comnunity for drivers and it should create a sense of safety for them -

Can you please add a “Stopped Train” botton!! It would be great to know there’s a train stopped on the tracks so you can reroute!

The app should include an alert when you are about to cross a train track.

Have a method to mark a train crossing as blocked so that alternate routes could be taken before getting to the crossing.

Just by penalizing routes with a train cross with say... 5 minutes should be enough. No need to know the train schedule, that will effectively choose bridges or tunnels instead unless they are really packed

Not the only place this is suggested.

I think Waze users - particularly in other towns and cities where dealing with waiting on railroad crossings is a part of everyday life - would benefit from some sort of train-tracking GPS feature, especially if they could configure their settings to receive a notification once the train is a certain distance from their current location (say five miles, etc.). I believe this would be a very value-added feature which would allow users to better budget their time and schedules around inconvenient train delays.
Additionally, since Waze allows users to contribute information in real time, actively reporting on incidents like crashes, hazards, and police, I think another value-added feature would be to add some kind of "waiting at train crossing" button. This would allow users to notify others of backed up traffic as a result of a crossing train, and provide those who are about to embark on a trip using Waze to either wait at their route starting location for a few additional minutes and avoid waiting on a passing train, or choose another route which steers clear of the train tracks.

My wife and I were held up by a train for 40 minutes and there was no way on Waze for us to alert other drivers. We had to use the road closed option.

Waze should have a way of " sending a report" for rail road activity as here in the los angles harbour area a train can be a 20 min delay

Entering a train obstruction should include the direction the train is traveling and a follow-up to notify when the crossing has cleared. The info entered at one or multiple crossings could be used by Waze to predict additional road closures further down the rail line. Currently the only option is to report an Event road closure and set the time as < 1 Hr. This could be both a help and a hindrance to other drivers.

I constantly run into long trains going slow, like entering a train yard for example. The other day if I had 1 minute notice I could have changed my route by jumping on the interstate thus saving 20 minutes.
I also run into prisoners & workers/volunteers picking up trash very close to roads/interstate edges - why not have a people/side of road hazard choice? -

Concur. I live/travel in an area where trains and ships cause drivers significant delays when drivers are not aware that either a train is crossing or that the bridge is up. Between the Burlington Eastport lift bridge and Niagara falls there are probably no less than a half a dozen lift bridges. A passing ship can cause a delay of 20 minutes or more. Moreover the status of the bridge is not apparent as drivers approach, and drivers need some advance warning to route around the bridge. As the QEW through Hamilton/Burington is ranked as one of North Americas busiest highways linking US traffic to Toronto, many users could benefit from this simple additional feature.
Thanks,

Waze needs a way for drivers in Los Angeles County to report sweeper trains

When I floated this in the forum, they said to just flag the road as closed. It'll route people around it, and then when the train passes and people start using the road again, it'll automatically lift the closure.
I don't know if that's the best way to do it (I hope there's no penalty against me for reporting a closure that's quickly lifted), and I'd love if it would automatically know I'm sitting near a crossing and pop up "We've detected a slowdown, are you waiting for a train?" like it does for the traffic thing.
Bonus points if it would automatically "close" adjacent crossings, since trains tend to travel through them in sequence....

It would be great if you could alert others when trains are blocking railroad crossings.

One thing that should be added for the traffic issues is when it is a driver or specific vehicle that is at fault. For example: people driving under the speed limit or slow-moving construction vehicles. When you're behind them, it might not be bad traffic yet, but it has a ripple effect. Also, showing a stop for trains or train crossings would help.

How about a way of reporting traffic being caused by train passing or a bridge up?
