Independent Map Views / Zoom Levels for Center Display and Driver Display on Android Automotive
On vehicles with Android Automotive / Google built-in, such as the Volvo XC90, Waze can display navigation on both the center infotainment screen and the driver/instrument display.
Currently, however, both displays essentially show the same navigation perspective and zoom behavior. This makes poor use of having two separate displays.
Google Maps already handles this much better on the same vehicle and hardware:
- Driver Display: Close, dynamic turn-by-turn view with automatic zoom for junctions and upcoming maneuvers.
- Center Display: Wider map view or complete route overview, allowing the driver to see the overall journey and traffic situation.
I would like Waze to offer the same functionality.
Requested feature
Please allow independent map views and zoom levels for multiple displays on Android Automotive:
Driver / Instrument Display
- Dynamic auto-zoom
- Detailed turn-by-turn navigation
- Close view for upcoming junctions and maneuvers
Center Infotainment Display
- Wider map view or full-route overview
- Independently adjustable zoom level
- Option to keep the selected zoom level or route overview during navigation
Changing or automatically adjusting the map view on the driver display should not reset or change the map view on the center display, and vice versa.
This is not a hardware limitation: Google Maps already provides separate and useful views on the two displays in the same Volvo XC90.
Implementing independent display views would make much better use of the multi-display capabilities of Android Automotive and would benefit Volvo XC90, XC60, EX90 and other vehicles using Google built-in / Android Automotive.

A custom option to visualize charging points, parking, or other transit points of interest
It Would be great to see some custom (selectable) transit points of interest such us parking, charging points, gas Station... Many other map apps have it and doesn't introduce a big visual noise in the map.

Taking the EV community into account and evolving in this direction
As an electric vehicle user, it's becoming increasingly clear that Waze isn't designed for this group, which is no longer a minority and will keep growing. While other navigation apps are starting to integrate EV-specific features, Waze still treats an electric car exactly the same as a combustion one. This affects safety, route planning, and the actual driving experience, among other things.
Traffic restrictions based on vehicle type
Many cities already apply restrictions (low-emission zones, lanes, access points) based on environmental labels or propulsion type. Waze should allow users to select "electric vehicle" as a profile and adjust routes accordingly, just as it already does with motorcycle or heavy vehicle profiles.Reliable charger database with provider filtering
Right now, charger information on Waze is scarce, outdated, or simply nonexistent in many areas. We need to be able to see real availability, connector type, power output, and filter by provider (Iberdrola, Endesa X, Wenea, etc.), just as you can already filter by gas station brand.Routes calculated based on the vehicle's actual specifications
This is the future of EV navigation: entering the specific model (or at least battery capacity, average consumption, connector type) so the route can calculate necessary charging stops, estimated charging time at each point, and actual consumption based on the route (slopes, speed, weather conditions). Apps like ABRP (A Better Route Planner) already do this, and Waze is falling behind.
Also worth considering:
Charger filter compatible with the user's connector (CCS, Type 2, CHAdeMO) — without this, any other feature loses practical value, since finding a charger is useless if it's not compatible.
Real-time alerts for occupied/broken chargers (community-based), just as speed cameras or accidents are reported now. This would be Waze's equivalent of what PlugShare already does, but with the strength of the Waze community — this would be a huge help.
Integration with the car's charge status (via manufacturer apps, third-party apps, a dedicated API, or Android Auto/CarPlay) so the route can dynamically recalculate if actual consumption differs from the estimate.
Option to choose alternative routes based on extreme temperatures, since cold and heat significantly affect real-world range, something a combustion engine doesn't suffer from in the same way.
Estimated charging cost per trip, adding up the cost at each stop based on the provider's rate, the same way it's already done with tolls. (Taking into account the subscription prices most of us already have.)
Driving-style efficiency feedback: just as there's a safety score, there could be consumption/efficiency feedback for EVs.
"Charge while you do something" mode: suggestions for restaurants, shops, or points of interest near the charger during the estimated wait time.
This group is going to become the majority within a few years. The longer Waze takes to take it seriously, the more ground it's losing to other solutions that are already doing it right.

Como usuario de un vehículo eléctrico, cada vez es más evidente que Waze no está pensado para este colectivo, que ya no es minoritario y va a seguir creciendo. Mientras otras apps de navegación empiezan a integrar funciones específicas para VE, Waze sigue tratando a un coche eléctrico exactamente igual que uno de combustión. Esto afecta a la seguridad, a la planificación de rutas y a la experiencia real de conducción, etc;

Label font color doesn't always follow toggling light/dark mode
When CarPlay toggles back and forth between light and dark modes (e.g. while driving tree-lined roads), the color of the font for the labels does not always keep up (e.g. light-dark-light mode transition sequence sometimes still uses a white color for the font). When hovering over a label, the correct color momentarily appears.

Highlight with contrast actions during selection process (for CarPlay trackpad support)
It would be helpful to highlight, with contrasting border, an icon as it is being selected. I happen to have a vehicle that uses a trackpad instead of a touch screen so I must scroll to the desired icon (which highlights it), then press the trackpad to select it. Currently it is difficult to distinguish whether an icon is highlighted before selecting. If, for example, the yellow triangle-plus icon had a white and black (suggest both for contrast under light and dark conditions) circular border that appeared when highlighted, it would be much easier to verify I had the correct icon before pressing the trackpad to select it. Note I don't think this will add significant benefit to folks using a touchscreen, but it should not detract either.

- Moving Police Patrol Alert
I would like to suggest adding a second type of police report specifically for officers who are actively driving rather than parked.
Current police reports work well when an officer is stationary, but they become inaccurate once the patrol car starts moving. A separate report type—such as “Moving Police Patrol”—could solve this.
Suggested functionality:
- A driver reports a moving police vehicle and selects its direction of travel (northbound, southbound, eastbound, or westbound).
- The report follows the road instead of remaining pinned to a single location.
- Drivers traveling the same route receive a notification that a police vehicle is actively moving ahead rather than sitting at a fixed location.
- The original reporter, or other users who encounter the patrol vehicle, can update or end the report if the officer exits the roadway, turns onto another road, or the report is no longer accurate.
- Reports automatically expire after a short period unless confirmed by other users.
This would provide more accurate, real-time awareness while reducing outdated stationary police reports.
- Improve Live Wazer Refreshing
I’ve also noticed what appears to be an issue with live Wazer updates.
When driving faster than surrounding traffic, I often pass many Wazers. After passing them, I can clearly see plenty of vehicles still ahead on the road, but Waze frequently stops displaying nearby Wazers altogether. The map can appear almost empty even though there is moderate or heavy traffic ahead.
The only way I’ve found to restore accurate live information is to completely close and reopen the app. Once reopened, nearby Wazers immediately appear again.
Since nearby Wazers help validate how current police reports and other hazards are, this behavior can reduce confidence that the map is showing the most recent information.
I would appreciate improvements to the live refresh system so that nearby Wazers continue updating automatically during navigation without requiring the app to be restarted. If this behavior is intentional to conserve data or battery, an optional setting for more frequent live refreshes would be a valuable addition for users who prioritize the most current road information.

Report of a distance check
In Germany, besides mobile speed cameras, there are also following-distance enforcement checks. In Germany we call it „Abstandskontrolle“. These are typically conducted from bridges over highways, where officers monitor whether drivers maintain a safe following distance. It would therefore be very useful to have the ability to report these checks as well.

Byłoby to przydatne np. w sytuacji po wyprzedzeniu pojazdu, dzięki temu wiem o ile muszę zwolnić aby utrzymać średnią prawidłową prędkość

Sugestão de melhoria para o Waze
Olá, equipe do Waze.
