Increase police warning distance
Waze users are warned of speed traps or police presence only about 600 feet ahead of time. This is far too late of a warning. With a clear line of sight, law enforcement can detect speeders at 1-2 miles out.
By the time the Waze warning pops up, you could have already been detected.
This feature – while very well intentioned and thought out – is useless with so little warning.
What we are aiming to do here is speed based alerters.

600 feet? I get only one audible 10 blocks 2 red lights which is 2 minutes ahead and by that time I forgot all about it. I need a 600 ft warning as well.

In the US vehicles are required to move lanes when emergency vehicle is passed so giving the max amount of warning would allow drivers to do so safely to

Speed based is useless as police can use lidar at over 1/4 mile. So 5/8 (0.6) of a mile should be minimum

Why are on earth world you decrease the distance from 0.5 miles to just 0.3 miles in the US? This is asinine! At a minimum, go back to 0.5, or better yet, let us change the notification distance in the settings.

I agree that increasing the police warning distance in Waze would really improve safety and convenience. Having more time to react helps drivers avoid sudden braking and makes trips smoother. As someone who also enjoys exploring maps and mods in GTA SA, I know how useful better alerts can be for a more stress-free driving experience. https://thegtasanandreasapk.com/

There is no use in using Waze if the alert is when you are 500 feet from anything....Police alert, construction or even item in the road. Please fix

Police are able to track speed before the half mile notification from waze. It would be nice if we were able to increase the distance of these notifications (and maybe all of them?)

Please also take a moment to upvote the suggestion to allow for Waze to always warn by voice for speed cameras: https://waze.uservoice.com/forums/59223-waze-suggestion-box/suggestions/45709636-warn-speed-camera-by-voice-all-the-time

Perhaps two warnings based on time, not distance. One 40 seconds prior and another 20 seconds prior.

Hello,
As a frequent Waze user, I have noticed that the current alert distance for events (accidents, speed cameras, hazards on the road) is too short.
In many situations, the alert comes too late for the driver to anticipate properly, especially at higher speeds (highways, expressways) or in poor weather conditions.
Proposal:
Add a setting that allows users to choose their preferred alert distance (e.g., 500 m / 1 km / 2 km) depending on driving speed and personal preference.
Optionally, automatically adjust the alert distance based on the vehicle’s actual speed (longer distances for higher speeds).
Include a personalizable “distance index” (e.g., +10% or -10%) so each driver can fine-tune Waze alerts to match their driving style and comfort level. For example, I personally prefer to be warned as early as possible, ideally with the remaining distance displayed and even a reminder halfway to the event. Others may prefer a shorter alert interval closer to the hazard.
Expected Benefits:
Better anticipation of slowdowns, speed cameras, and hazardous zones.
Improved road safety thanks to earlier driver reactions.
A more personalized user experience for different types of trips (urban, suburban, highway).
Thank you for considering this improvement, which I believe would benefit a large part of the Waze community.

How will that work?

I support this idea and would also love to see a manual option to set how far in advance police alerts appear (e.g. 1.5km or 2km). Automatic speed-based alerts are great, but having manual control would give drivers more flexibility — especially on highways.

I completely agree with John. Frankly, it's incredibly frustrating how long Waze takes to update their system and actually implement quality suggestions and highly voted ideas. This isn’t just a minor delay—it’s been years, and we’re still waiting for meaningful changes that users have been pleading for, like increasing police alert distances. With thousands of votes and comments stacked up, it feels like we're all shouting into the void while the development team continues to drag their feet. The lack of responsiveness is disappointing and makes it hard to feel heard as a community. It’s not just about convenience anymore—it’s about safety, reliability, and trust. If Waze wants to keep users engaged, they need to do better.

Hard to believe that this original request goes back almost 6 years and has nearly 4,000 votes and yet, waze will not allow their users to set their warning distance, and now, recently, waze shortened the warning distance from 0.5 to just 0.3 miles.

Increasing the police warning distance in Waze would be a great improvement! A longer alert range could help drivers react earlier and avoid sudden speed adjustments. Also, been checking out Nulls Brawl APK, pretty interesting twist on the game. https://nullsbrawl.io/

There is a curve on the interstate where I commute and sometimes cars get pulled over around the corner and it would be helpful if the warning was much sooner so that the drivers can move over before entering the curve so we don't cause an accident. I don't understand why the alert distance was changed to begin with. I understand cops may like a shorter notice so they can catch speeders but it could prevent a terrible accident one day on this curve.
