Select initial driving direction
Very often Waze starts up navigation facing the wrong driving direction. The direction is rectified as the vehicle starts moving, but it can be too late for the initial turn.
Please add the ability to switch driving direction when navigation starts, via a button.
Additionally, Waze should make a better guess at the intial driving direction by using compass data.

Thank you for this suggestion.
Setting the Car’s direction when starting the app and navigation is a known matter which will be addressed in the future.
There are many complexities in location tracking which cause this issue and hold us from providing a solution.
It’s currently on the back burner, but definitely a part of the backlog.

Hope it's implemented. Lots of the time, it suggest a very long route when all I need is to drive in the other direction. I wouldn't know if the other direction is faster though without actually driving in that direction hoping for the best

More than 2 years has passed since this response was made and the problem still exists.
I would consider adding the 'reverse direction' button at the beginning of the ride as this really bothers a lot of the people I know.The problem is even more severe when you park perpendicularly to the road. Since Waze guess your direction it might give you a far worse route than what it would give if the direction was oposite.

Also, somewhat related issue, we live on a dead end road and are told at the start of every trip to "make a uturn." It might be easier to fix this narrow issue than the global issue (by not starting a trip by making a uturn), but both need attention.

Clarification: this issue is most common when standing still at a traffic light or stop sign, and would like to know which way to turn.
Additionally, there's a related issue that is less common for me, where waze misplaces the intial position altogether, either because of weak GPS signal, and/or because the location contains a few roads at relatively close proximity. For this issue it would additionaly be useful if waze allowed selecting the initial driving position when it is unsure between a few options.
