For the Love of Waze: A Real Driver's Plea to Stop the Trolls
I'm writing to you as someone who truly loves what Waze is supposed to be: a community of drivers helping each other out. But that spirit is dying, and it's because you're letting a handful of trolls ruin it for everyone else.
We've all seen it: phantom police cars that vanish into thin air, imaginary traffic jams on empty roads, and the completely absurd "icy road" warnings during a summer heatwave. It’s gone from being a funny quirk to a serious problem. It’s not just annoying anymore; it’s making us lose trust in the app we once relied on.
We, the honest drivers, are tired. We need you to step in and give us the tools to fight back. Here are a few common-sense ideas:
A Simple "Trust Score" for Everyone.
This doesn't need to be complicated. If your reports are helpful and people confirm them, your hidden trust score goes up. If your reports are constantly flagged as false, your score plummets. It’s that simple.Real Consequences for Trolls.
A bad trust score needs to mean something. Put them in a "timeout corner" where they can't report for a day. If they keep doing it, give them a week off. And for the worst offenders who just want to watch the world burn? Kick them out for good. The Biggest Fix: You Must Be THERE to Confirm.
This is a huge one. Right now, a liar's friend can confirm a fake report from his couch miles away. That's insane. Please, make the "It's There" button dead unless a driver's GPS shows they are right on top of the report. No physical presence, no vote.Use a Little Common Sense in the App.
Your system has all the data. Use it!
Does a "standstill traffic" report make sense when your own data shows other Wazers flying by at the speed limit? Of course not. The system should automatically flag and remove it.
An "icy road" report when it's clearly summer? Come on. Block those reports automatically when they make no logical sense.
Please, listen to your community. We are the ones on the road every day trying to make this work. We want to help you clean up the app and bring back the Waze we all loved and trusted.Sincerely,
A Driver Who Still Hopes.I'm writing to you as someone who truly loves what Waze is supposed to be: a community of drivers helping each other out. But that spirit is dying, and it's because you're letting a handful of trolls ruin it for everyone else.

A Harry Dresden voice pack
I'm a big fan of the Dresden Files books, by Jim Butcher. I have recently been enjoying the audio book versions. Most of the 17 books are available read by James Marsters.
I would really enjoy a Waze app voice pack, based on James Marsters portrayal of the Harry Dresden character. (Maybe Jim Butcher himself would be willing participate)
I'm sure other Dresden Files fans would also.
Other characters from the Dresden Files, such as Molly Carpenter and Demonreach. Would be a bonus.
I think the female voice actors for Molly vary, but I'm pretty sure J. Marsters does the voice for Demonreach.Other celebrities I have thought of for potential voice packs; Robin Williams, James Earl Jones, & Jack Nicholson.

Personalized voice sidekick with street names
You could make personalized voice options for sidekicks with a second drop down box below for street name pronunciation using a already established voice option for the street names. For instance I could use the Now You See Me voice option for a sidekick with a British street name English option.

Average Speed Cameras - NZ
New Zealand NZTA is introducing Average Speed Cameras which will detect your average speed over a long distance.
Can we implement a feature that will not only show you the start and finish point of the speed trap, but also your average speed whilst you’re within it to ensure you aren’t fined.
Thanks team!

התראה על קבר צדיק בקרבת מקום (פיצ’ר אופציונלי)
שלום צוות Waze,
Waze,

Showing the average speed on the trip
When a driver enters an average speed check zone, Waze could display both the legal speed limit and the driver’s current calculated average speed since entering the zone. Additionally, the app could show what the driver’s remaining average speed needs to be in order to stay compliant by the end of the zone.
Example:
“Average speed check zone — Limit: 90 km/h.
Current average: 95 km/h.
To stay compliant, reduce speed to 85 km/h.”2 votes -

Use phone orientation to determine initial driving direction
Problem:
When starting navigation from a stationary position, Waze often assumes my car is facing the direction of the road segment, not my actual heading.
This leads to wrong initial instructions — for example, being told to “turn right” when in reality I need to make a U-turn first because I’m facing the opposite direction.Proposed Solution:
Use the phone’s built-in compass and orientation sensors to estimate the initial heading of the vehicle when navigation begins.
In most real-world cases, the phone is positioned facing the same direction as the car (mounted on the dashboard or windshield).
By using this heading information, Waze could:Determine the correct driving direction before movement begins.
Avoid confusing or incorrect first instructions.
Make navigation smoother and more intuitive, especially in parking lots or side streets.

Enhanced 3D Junction View for Improved Navigation with 3D illustrations
Enhanced 3D Junction View for Improved Navigation
The current Waze display on the BMW X1's 8-inch screen utilizes the full space but lacks critical lane-level detail, especially during complex maneuvers. Implementing enhanced 3D illustrations for specific challenging road features would significantly improve driver clarity and safety.- Complex Interchanges and Lane Guidance For junctions where a simple directional arrow is insufficient, a dynamic 3D view is needed to guide drivers into the correct lane well in advance.
Motorway Splits and Exits:
Need: Show complex motorway splits (e.g., merging onto two separate dual carriageway A-roads) and exits.
Proposed Feature: Display a 3D-rendered sign and road environment that clearly highlights the correct exit and required lane. This should appear several hundred meters before the split, with a countdown timer or distance marker.
Sequential Close Junctions:
Need: Guidance for immediate, sequential turns (e.g., turn right at the first light, then an immediate left at the second).
Proposed Feature: The 3D view should highlight the recommended lane for the first maneuver and then transition to highlight the required lane for the second maneuver as the driver approaches the second set of traffic lights.
- Multi-Lane Roundabouts (Including Double Roundabouts) Navigating multi-lane or double roundabouts requires clear, pre-emptive lane instruction.
Proposed Feature: Display an aerial 3D illustration of the entire roundabout. This view must show all entry lanes and highlight the exact lane the driver needs to enter the roundabout in, ensuring they are positioned correctly to take their designated exit. This instruction must be given sufficiently in advance of the approach.
- Motorway Exit Continuation Often, the most challenging part of a motorway journey is not the exit itself, but knowing which lane to be in immediately after the exit to prepare for the next turn or merge.
Proposed Feature: Upon exiting the motorway, display a transitional 3D view showing the layout of the receiving road. This illustration should:
Clearly indicate the total number of lanes on the new road.
Highlight the specific lane the driver should move into (or remain in) to facilitate the very next step in the navigation (e.g., preparing for an upcoming slip road, merge, or turn).

Shadow the Hedgehog
I see you recently introduced Sonic as a Navigator and he's already super fun and gives me the happiest time while driving. I was wondering in the spirit of rivals, could we get a shadow version too to go along with it. Keanu Reeves, David Humphrey, Jason Griffith, or Kirk Thorton!

Simplify ability to mark roads as closed
There is a road closure near me which is not currently shown on Waze and Waze therefore keeps trying to route through this closure. I know it is there so why am I not able to simply mark a road as closed anywhere (ie not just when I am on a route)? Otherwise people will keep being routed towards a closure and the last thing they are thinking of when they are having to turn around and go a different way is to inform Waze about the closure. Seems such a simple fix and if you are worried about it being abused by people who would inform of closed roads as a joke, it could be verified by two or more users so that you know it is genuine.

Better head-up-display directions at roundabout
The head-up-display shows directions through waze in my VW ID.7. At roundabouts it shows an arrow, instead of (part of) a roundabout with which exit to take.

Please restore report button (big orange triangle) position back to down-right corner. New position is extremely not intuitive, hard to use while in motion and cover part of the map. Moving button there was not good idea at all.

Zoom
Whenever I click the find alternative routes button. It constantly zooms me out every single time. This is so annoying I have to constantly click the plus button. Every time that I want to check if there’s a different route thats quicker.

Add favorites to a route
When I go on long trips, I enjoy stopping at rest areas, but I have no clue where they are or when they'll appear. I've ended up at a sketchy gas station, only to discover a rest area just 2 miles ahead. I also like pulling over at specific restaurant chains, but again, I don't know their locations. It would be awesome to add favorites to a route so the app tracks the distance to the nearest Chick-fil-A or Buc-ee's, then resets after you pass it to show the next one. This feature would be a game-changer.
