Please note we're changing the status of this suggestion to Currently Not Planned, since we finalized our plans for 2024 and this idea won't be implemented this year.

Agreed. I used to use iGo on my windows mobile and that zoomed out when there were no directions needed within 2 miles so you had a route overview and close up when you needed to do something.
I also like the Google Maps implementation. It requires you to press a button to bring it up and make it go away again but it shows you in the centre bottom of the screen and your destination in the centre top and adjusts the zoom level to keep those two points in the same place. Great for a quick overview.
Ideally an automated version of what Google maps does (If no directions need to be issued within a fixed distance zoom out to overview mode) would be perfect. Something that I have not seen on an android app.
