Don't want to have to allow access to my contacts to share a drive
In the new version, I can't enter an address or number anymore...and I'd really prefer not to sign over my entire contact list to waze. Can you reinstitute the message/email options in "share my drive"?
Thanks for your feedback. At this time, this doesn't fit on our roadmap, but we'll keep it in mind for future product planning.

If Waze is Google and Google is Waze….. what are the semantics here? Google already has your contacts. We all use google. Am I missing something here with all the negativity. I made the connection and haven’t one bad thing to say about it. Is Google Master robbers of some kind that made the National News and I happened to have missed it?

Just deleted Waze - Google, you DO NOT need access to my contacts in order to provide me driving directions! You guys at Google have lost your minds asking users for access to their contacts.....I have no problems going back to using my 'old school' Garmin GPS with lifetime maps and traffic updates!!

Well my wife is a few thousand miles away and I had requested her to share her trip so I knew if my family made it to the beach okay and find the option gone unless I hand over my contacts list. Had this app for four years. To the trash it goes. Guess I’ll just ask her to let me know she makes it okay. Contact lists my ass.

Some apps legitimately need access to your contacts list. For instance, if you replace your messaging app on Android with a third party messenger like Textra, it requires contacts permissions in order to perform the function for which it was designed.
However, there are plenty of apps out there that carpet bomb permissions and "require" access to things that aren't necessary to the functionality. In some cases this is simply laziness on the part of the developers. However, with Waze the permissions were added in during an update, meaning it was purposely done.
The only reason Waze "needs" access to your contacts: marketing, and selling your info. If the app is free, the developers make their money from your personal information.

My wife and I have been using Glympse for years as it is so simple and accurate to share and track your current location, you can even setup 1 click sharing for 'regular shares' (my wife uses this when she is leaving work so I can start dinner when she is a certain distance from home).
Waze sharing/ETA is terrible, takes too many clicks, and seems to rely on Facebook linking which I do not want to do.
I should be able to optionally integrate with Contacts, Facebook, G+, etc. but also just add a name and mobile number, store in local Waze address book, to be able to send a TXT message.

WAZE STOLE MY BUSINESS CONTACTS LIST !
By harassing me with pop ups asking permission to share my contacts list until I pressed "yes" by accident while driving !!!!
These people are underhanded thieves! They should be sued for millions of dollars !

I have been a long time and dedicated user of Waze. My phone died so I had to upgrade ... installed the app again and as I went through the login process, I experienced the same complaint everyone else here has with having to share your contacts. I vaguely remember this from when I had to upgrade my broken phone a few years ago...but must have found a way around it. Now I can't.
Waze programmers, : please listen to the user base and figure out a way to eliminate this requirement...or you'll find that your user base will keep getting smaller as people figure out that security and identity theft is a priority. Thanks!

I just started using Waze last week without login but I was uncomfortable. As if asking for our contacts was not bad enough, they want photo/media and files too? Their request is outrageous and unacceptable! What a waste to an otherwise good app. I have uninstalled it.

Well I've been using Waze for a while and have recommended it, but you can shove it now. YOU DON'T NEED MY CONTACTS TO FIGURE OUT A ROUTE

Done with you Waze. No, you can't have my contacts from my phone and no, when you ask me to log in with Facebook you can't have my friends list. You have a very good app but I am going back to VZ Navigator although it isn't as good. Just because everyone else seems to think that they can add something like this in their TOS, you could take the high ground and not request or require it. Make it optional.

Like so many others I'm dumping Waze after the new contacts requirement. Shameful.

Just a follow-up. I logged out of Waze & was able to log back in with my username, without being asked for access to my contacts. Just needed to verify my phone number & other info previously provided info. So perhaps you should try setting up & using a username/password instead of only a phone number to login. HTH or gives someone more ideas.
