remove Lake Shore Ave and Baxter St. from rush hour routes
someone is going to be seriously injured. the street is a 32% grade and scares many drivers. during rush hour it's a DANGEROUS disaster waiting to happen.

The City implemented turn restrictions and/or one-way routes to discourage commuter traffic. it appears to have worked for the most part...

Waze should indicate steep incline at points on many routes in mountains etc

IHeart Radio Report on the danger of Waze re-routing traffic through Baxter

please don't route drivers onto Baxter street. it is a very steep street, and there have been many accidents since Waze has routed traffic onto the street (which is also very narrow and not a good commuter street. there is also a daycare center there).
I am concern about what will happen when Dodger season starts and everyone is trying to use the street. We have had many accidents, near misses, and panicked drivers who had no idea that the street consists of 2 extremely steep hills. when you are at the top of the hill, you can't actually see the road on the other side of the crest until you are on it. this is fine for drivers who are expecting this and slow down to accommodate, but when someone has never been on the street before and just flies over the top at 40 mph, it is incredibly dangerous. the community is currently lobbying to have no left turn signs placed on the street so that Waze doesn't route traffic through Baxter. This will be an inconvenience for the community as well as your users, but if we have to choose between safety or convenience, we will opt for safety. it would the kinder thing for Waze to just pull the street off of its database.

Yes, thanks! Would be great to not have scared and unfamiliar drivers on this incredibly steep hill.

Extremely dangerous. I saw a commuter literally slide backwards all the way down the hill after a rain. Three cars had to pull out of his way. Extremely lucky there was no accident. Please take this route off your suggested routes.

Waze: you're re-routing drivers through a residential neighborhood which was not built to handle the kind of traffic it is now seeing, especially during rush hour(s). The streets in the area are narrow and Baxter St. is a 32% grade. What is an already dangerous situation is made worse when it rains. There have been multiple accidents including cars landing in resident's yards.

For now everyone living on the street can report the road as closed and see if that helps. Or at least hit the heavy traffic alert to route people a different way temporarily.

I reside on Baxter and the current situation is out of control. Numerous accidents have occurred during rush hour in the past and often I am not able to get to my driveway due to backed up traffic and 'stranded' cars that have to be 'rescued' as towing on a 32% incline is not an option.

I've lived in the neighborhood for 21 years... never seen traffic like this.. outta control... please make it Stop..lakeshore is a narrow street..like one car at a time can drive down it...very unsafe and Baxter... you have to be a professional driver to even attempt that one...saw a car flip over & trucks and limos get stuck at the top... it's really bad and not a common street for a typical waze around traffic...

We put up barriers provided by the city to block traffic from going up Baxter at lake shore when it's raining. I saw a driver pull up, get out of his car, move a barrier and drove up the hill. I've talked to people who have called Waze and never got a reply. I spoke with someone at DOT who promised steep grade signs installed on the corner of Baxter and Lake shore. They should be installed soon hopefully. Don't mean to be negative, but I don't think they'll do much good. I would LOVE to have the head of Waze spend a couple of weeknights (rain or shine) in my living room and listen to the screeching, honking, revving engines and yelling that goes on. I've had two vehicles slide into my front yard within two months when we had all that rain recently. People pull into the oncoming lane when someone gets stuck going up the hill. It's crazy.

I have witnessed five accidents on our 2000 Baxter block this year including a car flying and landing in our neighbor's yard. Cars have gone over the curb and hit our other neighbor's yard several times. A car could hit a house. I am terrified of our own block since Waze has made this a freeway thoroughfare. Baxter is the steepest street in California and cars can't make it to the top. We hear screeching wheels and honking and yelling all the time. It wasn't like this a year ago. Waze needs to understand that the grade is dangerous, you must drive slowly. This can't be a cut through to the freeway because the hill is actually 33% grade on our side with a blind peak at the top.

Please include Earl St. on this petition. Lots of cars "cutting through"--probably guided by Waze.

Children, pups, and even regular adults live here! It's not a shortcut for someone. The speed limit is 25 mph. People run a stop sign near a preschool. Someone sped by and hit my car door as I was getting out in front of my home. This seems like a liability for Waze, as Baxter is very steep and near a pre-school.

There is an elementary school and preschool at the bottom of Baxter - the traffic has tripled in the last month - causing back ups as frustrated commuters heading downtown to work cut through our quiet little neighborhood and endanger children being dropped off at school
