carpool match
I would like to use Waze to match me with carpool buddies. Waze has a large community of active users, already knows my origin and destination as well as time of day that I leave for and from work. It also has all this information for people in the neighborhood.
If Wazers can indicate if they are open to carpooling, then Waze can help connect them.
There are some apps like Avego that try to help, but because they have such few users, they aren't useful.
Would you prefer to carpool if you could ?
Changing this to Not Planned, as it doesn't fit on our roadmap in the near future. We'll keep it in mind for future product planning.

Waze should automaticaly recalculate expanses for all passengers in car according to distance and number of passengers and their weight with baggage. On the map there should be some info about free places in car - sometimes there are groups of hitchikers.

If you are the driver, Waze would prompt if you accept to pick a nearby hitchhiker (with similar destination), estimating how much time it would add to your trip. If you accept, your route would be automatically shifted to the place the person is, and this person would receive your location.
The driver can choose by either accepting or refusing based on extra route time, facebook contact distance (your friend, friend of a friend, etc), qualification received, etc.

A nice integration with facebook would provide safety!
- Alan is requesting a hike, he is friend of your friend Ana! He has 1260 points as a hitchhiker..
- John accepts to pick you up, you have 2 frinds in common: Roel and Josh! He has 150 points as a driver.It's based on the idea we know really much people after 2 or 3 connection points (fried of frind, or frind of a frind of a friend)

How about having this mode to lower congestion give a person a lift along your route? I would come in handy if you run out if fuel too

That would stop alot of people from braking a dumb law

Meaning that if I'm sitting on a bus stop and would like to get somewhere I can use my waze application to see who with a car and waze is driving on my direction. If the car holder is picking me up I will pay some fee to the driver according to the KM made.

I think about a features for helping to carpooling. All wazers could suscribe to this service.
The car driver submit the number of place, the capacity for luggage etc...
The searcher submit the number of people, the luggage size etc...
If the searcher is one the way of the car driver the service related puts both.
This features can be improve wih a note for the car driver/the searcher. Also with a distance to walk or to drive allowed to go for carpooling, eventually with the possibility to go to the destination with several driver etc...
It could be also possible to have the price of the fuel to do the trip. -

search waze suggestions for both:
° POI
° XMPPThe first to mark parking, rally points, and possibly carpool dotted line
the latter to communicate inside waze
for further interaction search
° Jingle short audio blurbs
(Jingle is with the XMPP spec)
you'll find XMPP entirely displaces sms

I just drove and missed a hitch-hiker, that stood in unexpected place.
I thought it would be nice that waze users and hitch-hikers themselves could warn about their presence on the road and even specify a desired destinationSomebody has thought about this, of course - I was sure - and voila!
It's even not so old idea, so there's a hope!+++

Hello my name is Leonid and I'm from Israel.
Re: Suggestion for optimizingNot once did I managed to catch a ride from one place to another by WAZE.
Just I'm posted notification about a problem on the road with a request for a ride to another placeOf course with notification was attached photo, a caption with my exact location and my phone number.
Believe it or not out of 4 times 3 people came back to me because it was they direction . :)So why you'r just not make another notification especially for lifts on Waze?
Think about it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Picture it as if you where hitchhiking:-) You enter your destination, then your request will be relayed to Wazers that are travelling along your route and could take you closer to your destination. If they choose to pickup people (in their settings) they get a message and may choose to accept the request. They can choose to give a free ride or that they want to share costs. The hitchhiker's location is then sent as a stopover location (along with a drop-off point where their routes fork).
So what could be the incentive for picking up random people?
- Collect extra points
- Saving our environment
- Share gasoline
- Be able to use the commuter lane
- Make new friends and be the hero of the day:-)
- ...and many many more. What could be an incentive, too? -

Just yesterday I thought of this idea exactly!!
Well I guess I'm not world first. But I would really love this to work.
Also every driver could add a price per distance if he wants to save on gas.
Or just do it free. You were driving there anyway asshole. Haha. -

- mostrar sua rota para todas as pessoas procurando carona;
- mostrar apenas para caronas de um grupo específico;
- mostrar apenas para amigos do Facebook;

Add the option to switch from “driver” to “hitchhiker” in the app. As a hitchhiker, you inform to Waze where you want to go. When a driver do the same, it will show on the map all the hitchhikers that could be benefited by his route. It’s now up to the driver if he want to pick them up.
It could be possible to change the privacy preferences for:
- showing your routes for all the hitchhikers;
- show only for hitchhikers that are in a specific group;
- show only to your Facebook friends;
- or hide for everyone (if you hated this ideia of giving rides using Waze).
Hitchhikers should have your own privacy system too.
When a hitchkiker pick up a ride, he “tell” to the Waze app who is giving the ride. At that moment, they both receive more points per mile, or something like that.
I think this non-anonymous system would solve most of the security issues that a hitch hiker could imply. It could be added a rate system or verified user system.
It would definitely help our planet and give Waze a sustainable catch! :)Getting the idea of another user (see his post here http://world.waze.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=19760&p=204604&hilit=hitch#p204604), it would also be nice to report hitchhikers on the map if you notice one on a road and don’t want to pick them. This is a nice way to help the hitch hiker community even if they don’t use Waze.

Hi,
I've got an idea to develop in waze.
Is it possible to add a button for hitchikers? So, the hitchikers who have waze on their phone can be seen by automobilists, they must also can tell wich town they want to go so the automobilists can have informations and take the hitchiker.Thanks.
