police: trailing/leading (in motion vs stationary)
Reports of stationary police are nice, but reporting highway patrol on the prowl with that feature is untenable.
Please consider a feature to report actively pacing highway patrol with modifier for leading (ahead of officer), or trailing (behind officer).
There should be an option to anonymize the report should one be traveling WITH- or accelerating AWAY from- the highway patrol at speeds exceeding posted limits.
Thanks for your feedback. At this time, this doesn't fit on our roadmap, but we'll keep it in mind for future product planning.

Speed limits have not changed significantly since I started driving almost 50 years ago. At that time going 70 or 75 was considered flying. Today it is the average speed on most highways I have been on for the last 15 or more years as cars have improved significantly.
Even in NYC on most highways cars travel at the speed limited by traffic with 70MPH of so being a slow average when there is no significant traffic and many cars traveling over 80. Speeding tickets are for the unlucky as virtually all drivers are exceeding the limit.
It is time for the various legislatures to increase speed limits to the de facto speed that is being traveled. I would set the limit at 75 and enforce laws on lane use and right of way. People exceeding the limit by 10 or more miles an hour should be ticketed and people traveling in any but the rightmost lane 10 or miles an hour slower than the limit should be ticketed. I personally think they are more dangerous than the speeders.
My personal practice is to travel in the lane with the most space in front of me. I think driving to close is the more dangerous practice. -

@vince1612 : exactly! .. exactly why there needs to be an option for "moving" in addition to stationary & hidden -Because *some* people will report moving patrols. Without an option to specify this, there is no way to filter or ignore them (at your discretion)

Reporting moving patrols is useless as 5-10 seconds after your report, it would already be outdated.
Waze doesn't allow LIVE position tracking of Wazers so saying you're following the patrol wouldn't solve anything (and would make you a bit creepy).
Finally nobody can predict when a patrol will take an exit or make a U-turn, etc... So it's really pointless unless you want to be annoyed all the time by false reports where you will be cursing at your phone because the patrol is nowhere in sight where the report pin is on the map.
Finally you should NOT be able to make such reports anonymously.

I don't get why there is a police report feature in the first place.
What's the reason for reporting? To alert someone that is committing a crime, so he doesn't get caught. This is wrong. I would like to remove the original feature, not improve on it. -

Do you ever change features? I also like the hidden/stopped/moving option that BadoonBadoon commented · July 21, 2013 10:17 PM
I think three options hidden/stopped/moving. I stopped flagging moving cops because there is no use to other wazers. And I flagged this as inappropriate by mistake. I must have larger then normal thumbs. -

Excellent idea, for now I try and ad a txt, "In Motion", beings there's no other means of reporting. I normally see more officers in motion then sitting.

Absolutely great idea! I see more Police on the move and patrolling than stationary.

Make sure this feature is accompanied with a discontinue feature ready to push when Wazer and police part ways. Reminders to discontinue every mile.

Excellent idea! However, what about an alert for police aircraft flying overhead given that they definitely do monitor speed this way as well when weather permits. It's speeding, will then get pulled over by a stationary unit on the side of road, but it's already too late since you've already been clocked going next number of miles over the limit.

User Interface: Would like to see a tag "on" or "off" when the police are in view coupled with the "trailing" / "leading". So I see one leading, add and then click again when they turn off and are no longer visible.

This would be a great feature. It could issue an alert for a certain radius (i.e. 1 - 5 miles) based upon the speed of the Wazer. As other Wazers reported the sighting as well, the location and speed would be reinforced, and the radius increased.

This will probably never become a feature.. The problem with doing this is that it's a lot more complicated than it seems. 1) By the time the report propagates across the system (i.e. gets to other Wazers) the location of the report is no longer valid (as the Police Officer has moved a significant distance down the roads). 2) It gets exponentially more difficult to predict where the officer will be at each junction they could potentially pass.

Waze could improve accuracy by allowing those in waze groups around inane-law enforcement officers or highway patrols.
Leading- and trailing, and in same wolf pack ... to reduce reporting- and publishing delay
Reports should be weighted with respect to trustworthiness or consistent reliability (and negatively weight falsely reporting not-there)

Speeding has everything to do with fuel efficiency ESPECIALLY with the NEEDLESSLY high cost of fossil fuels (biochemical solar energy storage) -- weak domestic energy policies must be corrected in favor of citizens. And poorly managed cities ought not be fleecing employed commuters

This should tie into speed trap reporting groups

Turn about is fair play. Highway patrol pace victims of illicit revenue generation. Good Samaritans can easily pace unjust enforcers to return some justice to citizens.
Privacy is key to avoid selective enforcement retaliation.

Just paved my first roads, trailing police could work exactly the same way. Mark trailing from report menu and end it clicking icon on left side. Should be very easy to implement right away.

This would be GREAT new feature. Police patrol just drove 10km in front of me. That's real time location info for all wazers! Just click report police patrol (moving) in front / behind and offset of 20 meters or something selectable. Then option to end sending police location when patrol drives away.
Someone will always drive behind / in front of police ;)
