1. Use front-facing camera to do things (if available)

   I position my iPhone in a cradle that attaches to the windscreen, and I think that I'm not alone. This camera has a pretty unobstructed view of the road ahead, which Waze could use to produce awesomeness! I can immediately think of a number of cool things that you could do with this, depending on how much image processing you want to do. Here are some user stories for you :)

   ---

   As a: User concerned about recording details for insurance purposes in the event of an accident
   I would like: Waze to record the field of view in front of me on a loop of user-selectable duration and save that loop to my videos in the event of an accident (as detected by the device's accelerometer, or other means)

   So that: I can review the details of any incident at a later date

   As a: Waze user that likes to help other Waze users by posting traffic updates
   I would like: Waze to examine the field of view in front of the vehicle (in conjunction with the GPS-detected velocity) and automatically determine if the traffic is heavy, or and prompt me to see if I want to send an update (or just do it automatically, if I've given Waze permission to do so in some settings option)

   So that: I don't have to manually do this, and the frequency of updates can be greatly increased

   As a: Waze user that likes to help other Waze users by posting hazard updates
   I would like: Waze to examine the field of view in front of the vehicle and detect common road hazards (objects in the road, on the shoulder, etc)

   So that: I don't have to manually do this, and the frequency of updates can be greatly increased

   As a: Waze user that likes to help other Waze users by posting hazard updates
   I would like: Waze to examine the field of view in front of the vehicle and detect if traffic or hazards that have previously been reported are now not there

   So that: Other users don't get out-of-date information about events on their route

   As a: Waze user that is concerned about tiredness while driving
   I would like: Waze to monitor the driver's posture, eyes and motion via the front-facing camera and look for signs of tiredness
   So that: I can recieve a loud alert in the event that I inadvertantly become drowsy, which either suprises me into a more alert state so that I can safely stop, or alerts other occupants of the vehicle to the situation

   OK, that's some camera ideas. Here are some other ones:

   As a: Driver planning a long journey
   I would like: Waze to (have the option to) prompt me to stop approximately every two hours and propose some local stopping place (service station, restaurant, cafe, hotel, etc)

   So that: I find it more difficult to accidentally drive for unadvisably long periods

   As a: Driver that is travelling with at least one other person in the vehicle
   I would like: To be able to install a "Waze: Co-pilot" app on an iPad (Air, mini, pro, etc) that would interact with the current Waze app (lets call it "Waz; Navigator") and allow the vehicle's "co-pilot" to analyse various navigation options on the "secondary" device and make course changes that will be seen on the "navigator" device.

   So that: The driver doesn't have to be distracted with making changes and decisions while the vehicle is in motion

   As a: Driver, with a co-pilot receiving, receiving a prompt to stop
   I would like: Information to be presented to the co-pilot to be sourced from some third-party travel information provider, such as Trip Advisor

   So that: We can crowd source reviews of the standard of stopping places

   As a: Driver without a co-pilot receiving a prompt to stop
   I would like: To simply be told to stop "at the next available stopping place"

   So that: I'm not needlessly distracted from the task of driving the vehicle

   As a: Waze user who wants to see additional, non-traffic, information on the map
   I would like: To be able to see a variety of "overlays" on top of the current Waze map

   So that: I can see things like the wind speed and direction on the road ahead, or the amount of rain, or the temperature (in case of ice, for example), or the gradient of the terrain

   As a: Waze user that has placed the device out of easy reach
   I would like: Waze to listen for the direction "Waze!" and be able to perform various tasks through voice interactions
   So that: I can drive with minimal distraction due to trying to interact via touch

   I'm thinking something like:
   "Waze, report heavy traffic"
   "Waze, report hazard on the shoulder of this carriageway"
   "Waze, plot route to <some kind of address>"
   "Waze, take me home"
   "Waze, reroute around an obstruction for 5 miles"
   ]

2. user provided layout themes

   There are various requests for features of what Waze should/should not display on screen. It would be great if users could instead of just choosing a style, actually choose a (or create) a layout that another user has selected.

   Best option would be to provide the ablity to give shapes, and areas that can contain text. Eg.
   - Current speed (can then increase/decrease the speed display)
   - Average wazer speed on the current segment (so the potential speed limits could be shown)
   - Current road name
   - Text/images for popups
   - Destination ETA
   - Destination time
   - Destination name
   - Destination distance
   The more that is available, the more people can add there own display requests in.

   No need for a GUI, XML or some form of coding would be suitable.

3. Android Auto 2019 GUI - add speed display/warning/ road incidentsin footer

   When no destination is set and Waze map is not selected, the footer only displays the Waze icon and leaves a large empty area -> additional minimized information can be added: road incident or current speed/overspeed information

4. New Driver / Learner Mode - For drivers that have restrictions for speed / highway

   A mode for new driver/learner, where restrictions (typically not allowed on major highways, or speeds above 100kph. When this mode is on the route provided avoids these. Much like avoid Toll.

5. Adding new Report Icons for dealing with "Nanny State" Issues...

   Hi,

   I have been running a community petition on change.org about requesting local governments for more leniency on some of the more "Nanny State" issues we encounter here in Australia. Such as dogs off leash in parks when the parks are empty or outside hours...

   As part of this initiative, the community has now decided that we would also go with an additional new plan B, which is to find out the feasibility of having new Report Icons added to Waze so we can handle those issues please ?

   The icons required would be as following, with the very first one at the very least if others can't be added, please?
   1) Animal Management Inspector
   2) Ranger
   3) Parking Inspector
   4) Smartphone usage camera
   5) Mobile Speed camera
   6) Fixed Speed Camera
   7) Red light Camera with speed detection
   8) Red light Camera with NO speed detection

   Could you please let us know if they could be added in a near future.

   Plan C: Otherwise, we are also looking at initiating a crowd funded project to create our own iOS / Android smartphone app, but of course it would be much easier if Waze was extended with those other very useful report icons/indicators...

6. Predictive Coasting Speed Alert / Vorausschauende Roll-Geschwindigkeitswarnung

   I suggest adding a predictive driving option to Waze that helps drivers adjust their speed more smoothly before reaching reduced speed zones.
   Currently, Waze shows the reduced speed limit exactly when you reach the zone, which often forces drivers to brake actively. My proposal is that Waze should calculate the optimal point at which I should release the accelerator, allowing the car to coast into the reduced speed limit without using the brakes.
   The system should display an alert such as “Reduce speed to 50 km/h in 300 m” at the right moment for coasting.Additionally, the app could optionally collect driving data to adapt this feature to my specific vehicle’s rolling behavior. A function to create multiple vehicle profiles would be helpful, as different cars decelerate differently. Users could define one default vehicle and switch between profiles easily.Deutsch:
   Ich schlage vor, Waze um eine Option für vorausschauendes Fahren zu erweitern, die Fahrern hilft, ihre Geschwindigkeit vor Geschwindigkeitsbegrenzungen sanfter anzupassen.

7. DRIVER SPEED LIMITATION INPUT FOR ITINERARY CALCULATIONS

   I think it would be a more than good idea to have the option of telling WAZE that one doesn't want to drive faster than 90km/h.
   For instance, i drive a camping car, which hardly reaches 100km/h and would like Waze to calculate itineraries taking this into account. Can that be fastly implemented ?

9. Traffic lanes speed.

   It would be useful to add this feature back to the Waze app because the speed of traffic segments is useful, so that we drivers can understand how intense the traffic is on certain sections of the road. But it should be estimated in both Km and in miles.

10. Help calculate ETA based on passive speeds of fellow Wazers

    I'm not sure if it's already exists or not... But I'm wondering how calculations are done in terms of "estimated times of arrival"?

    Is Waze passively tracking and analyzing the speed data from other Wazers while driving?

    For instance, if everyone on the highway is doing 75 or 80 miles an hour ahead of you, Waze should be able to use those analytics to create a more accurate ETA.

    Instead, I often find myself driving and arriving sooner than the ETA because traffic dictates driving a bit faster so as not to be unsafe.

    Additionally, this could also share an estimated speed limit if enough people average around 50-60, chances are the limit is 55. And THAT would be very helpful.

11. Speed Trap Advisory Pop-Up

    I would like to see a pop up up advisory if I drive into a town/village where the entire town is a speed trap & police use LIDAR in random locations for traffic enforcement. This would give the user ample warning as this type of radar is difficult to detect. By the time you have visual on a police car, you’re already nabbed.

13. Send weekly reports including speed behavior.

    It would help to identify driver's behavior. Waze could even be used in court. And it is important for you to be aware of the times you drive over the speed limits. Things look different when you see it in a summary.

14. Bring back "wrong speed limit" report

    I'm using Apple CarPlay if that changes anything.

    Some years ago, I could report "wrong speed limit". Now there is no report button like this and it causes the entire reporting worflow much longer: I report a general issue, then someone finds it, asks me what the issue is about (and I don't always remember if it was about the limit), and then I reply and they fix it. It could be just 1 click and then someone fixes it - much faster!

15. Add alert/icon for police helicopters with speed radar in Romania

    I propose adding a specific alert or icon for police helicopters equipped with speed radar in Romania. These helicopters regularly monitor traffic on highways and national roads, similar to mobile speed radars.

    Benefits:

    Alerts drivers to maintain safe speeds, reducing accidents and speeding violations.

    The icon could be a helicopter with a radar symbol and function like the current mobile radar notifications.

    Provides real-time, relevant information to drivers without violating any laws.

    This feature would enhance road safety and improve the relevance of Waze for drivers in Romania.

    Hello dear developers and team.
    Since last update the "Speed" icon sticked to the center-bottom and very often it layered over the streets titles and the routes.
    I think it would be great to have an option to choose where to place that icon on the screen, for example left-bottom, left-top and etc... Thank you in advance

20. The vehicle speed set to 0 and map display jumps on GPS blinds spots

    The Speed Problem:
    I noticed that when the car enters a cave my speed per hour gets reset back to 0 and when I leave the cave it goes back.

    Plus - The Map Display Problem:
    When I get inside the cave the map display feature of the car/arrow icon stops working:
    (the car/arrow icon would stop moving and then jump back to the end of the cave when I leave).

    I believe that the map feature and speed is working by gps to locate the vehicle location and time to calculate the speed which makes the car km/h / m/h to be not accurate:
    Meaning that when I enter a blind spot from gps, the car location won't be changed and the map display of the car would just stay put ,
    Plus - When the car location is not changing then the cars speed would be set to 0 by the calculation cause it's using only the location change over time.

    My solution to this problem is to make an option which you can take the speed from the car itself without having the trouble of calculating it yourself. -

    Most people of this time have already made the switch to electric vehicles which have the base "computer" inside of them which shows the driver their speed and allows them to download certain apps to their vehicle such as Spotify and Itunes.
    Plus - For some of those vehicles the Waze app could be added.
    Meaning that the Waze app would be able to request from the car the ability to track its speed.

    With this solution we can find out exactly at what speed the car is driving at all times without worrying about calculations.

    With this information we can also know roughly the exact location of the car.
    How do we do it?
    Simple. We just take the speed of the car and multiply it with the time that has passed.
    For example:
    Speed = 90km/h
    We would place a constant variable for the Time to be 1 Second that would not change ( it would mean that the map display would change every 1 second)
    Then:
    We calculate it by this equation:
    Distance = Speed in km/h * Time in hours

    For our example:
    First we need to change it from km/h to m/h:
    90 / 3.6 = 25 m/s
    Then Distance = Speed * Time:
    Distance = 25m/s * 1s
    Distance = 25 meters

    After that we can know the distance the car traveled the past second, and we can add it to the map along the road.
    And I know what you all think.
    WHAT IF the Car driver choose to reverse or change a path in the middle of the road.
    And that's why this function would ONLY work where there is no connection to GPS, and then when we get back connection to GPS the car would jump back to the location from the GPS.

    There for we can now know the exact location of the car on the road, Plus - we can know its speed at any given time(NOTE: This feature could replace the current way of speed tracking on any road).

    Another Solution IF we can't use the vehicle speed:
    We can also use the vehicle speed for the past 5 seconds before going into the blind spot + use other cars past records speeds of driving in that road and the speed numbers of vehicle users there are on the same road at the moment, and get the average speed of all of them.
    The way we can know the speed of vehicle users who drove this road in the past?:
    Simple,
    we just do the exact same equation from before just placing the time as the time they spent on the road and the distance of the road.

    And then we know the speed and we can find the location of the vehicle on the map just like we did before.

    The Speed Problem:
    I noticed that when the car enters a cave my speed per hour gets reset back to 0 and when I leave the cave it goes back.

    Plus - The Map Display Problem:
    When I get inside the cave the map display feature of the car/arrow icon stops working:
    (the car/arrow icon would stop moving and then jump back to the end of the cave when I leave).
