1. Project Zone for Large/Difficult Projects

   Sometimes when working on large projects, it is difficult to get the timing with tile updates to make a major project (or even smaller projects) go live at the correct time. Often this is done with adding segment restrictions to new segments, waiting for a TU, then applying an RTC and removing the restriction, so that when it goes live, just the RTC has to be removed. However, this usually only works when what is added is totally new and doesn't require reuse or reconfiguring of previous segments. It is also very difficult during reconfigurations when the project all of a sudden changes over early, or has a last minute delay. If we don't catch it in time, it can require several tile updates to get WME correct, and then wait for it to go live in the app. This is frustrating for editors because it makes deadlines and sudden changes very difficult, and frustrating for drivers getting incorrect instructions.

   My idea is a project mode that allows editors to work on large projects over several days without worrying about breaking routing, messing with current configurations, breaking RTC abilities, etc... all while keeping the behind-the-scenes mess hidden from the drivers using the app. Then, with a push of a button (or a predetermined time), the "project" can be made live in the app. Further details below on potential implementations to prevent concurrency issues while guaranteeing a great experience for editors and drivers.

   1 - How to create a "project": An editor with the required rank (set by regional coordinator) selects the "Project" polygon in WME and then draws a polygon around segments that will be included in the project and gives it a name. I'll refer to this polygon as the project zone from now on. Segments inside the project zone can be any lock level, even higher than the editor that places the project zone. Segment lock restrictions function as normal. Project zones are visible on the map through a "Projects" layer. Any segment that is included in a project zone is flagged as being part of that project, and when selected, it will display which project zone it's a part of. At this point, this segment is locked from editing unless in project mode, similar to the RTC editing lock. A project zone can be expanded to include new segments, but if it's shrunk enough that a segment flagged as included is no longer included, you cannot save. The idea behind this "project zone" is to create a clone of the current status of WME so that changes done do not affect the current tile build.

   2 - Working the project: Just like we can view the previous tile build, there will be an option to view the map as it is now, or view the "project". Any editor of any rank should be able to view the project progress, even if they can't create or modify it. From inside the project mode, you simply edit as normal to the new configuration saving often, not worrying about breaking routing (remember, the current map state is unaffected by this). Once editing is complete, including verifying routing is unbroken, you will "publish" the project to the map. I imagine that every time you save while in construction mode, a check that the edit is allowed and viable is made, but not actually completed. Then, when you publish, the edits are actually published to the map. At this point, even after a tile update, the old configuration is what is used in the app and for routing.

   3 - Making the new configuration live: The previous "publish" button actually will have two options. Publish and keep hidden, or publish immediately. Publishing immediately applies all changes in the project zone to the map, and removes the project zone. It will be live after the next tile update. Publishing and keeping hidden will send all the segments in the next tile update but keep them hidden. How do you ask? Just like RTCs can immediately affect routing and affect the visual appearance, the published but hidden segments are kept invisible on the map and have an RTC applied so that traffic isn't routed on invisible segments. Then, an editor in WME can select the project zone and "switch configuration" on demand or schedule it. Upon switching this configuration, the new configuration goes live instantly in the app by making the new configuration visible without RTCs, and any old segment IDs that were not reused go invisible with RTCs. The project zone remains on the map for 2 weeks or until manually removed by an editor. The editor can switch back to the old configuration instantly if needed, such as with a delay in crossing over.

   4 - In-app experience: Won't be snapped to incorrect segments that have been moved for a new configuration. Won't need to wait days for a configuration to go live in the app, especially in the event of a tile update delay. Able to take advantage of new configuration instantly.

   5 - Benefits to editors: Able to work on big projects in chunks over time. Can start adding or changing something, save to verify that it's a valid change, and continue editing. All without worrying about breaking routing (whereas saving often normally might break routing, or require lots of extra steps). No longer need to cram a large project in between tile updates. No longer needing to hope you're available to make the change on the exact day so that the correct tile update makes it go live, but not too early or too late. You could theoretically work a change weeks in advance. Allows us to still RTC segments from the old configuration while working the project zone.

   6 - Example scenarios:

   6-1: This displaced left turn required lots of steps with time based segment restrictions set to have it open at the correct time. Due to weather, the city announced it was delaying opening it by 2-3 days. This was announced 20 minutes before a tile update that would have set the new configuration in motion. Luckily I was able to catch it and update several time based restrictions. Then, after it was live, I had to go in and clean up turn restrictions and lane guidance that was no longer needed or correct. With a project mode, all the changes would be done well in advance of it going live. Then, set the configuration to change at the correct time. If we spotted it was delayed, simply change the time and date.    6-2: US-281 is undergoing a major expansion. Editors could work to map new freeways and frontage roads (that are probably a few weeks to a few months from being done) now while keeping the current configuration for the drivers. Then, as soon as it goes live, we can easily switch it. Currently, if we get a heads up it's opening, we'll have to get it all done in one day and hope there are no delays crossing over.    6-3: Dividing roads. You can save often to verify that you won't receive an error while not worrying about breaking routing. No having to create bowties every few intersections to save. Simply divide as you want, saving with segments halfway complete as you cut and merge, and then once done, publish to map immediately.

   6-4: Any other project that is time consuming where you don't want to complete it in one sitting.

   7 - Closing thoughts: This is obviously a giant ask and would likely be very difficult to include. I've tried to suggest it to where concurrency with other edits won't be an issue because they'll be locked. This is a giant mental work-in-progress, so any improvements to the basic idea are more than welcome.

4. Issue tracker, one more filtering option needed

   To be able to follow resolving rates it would be great if you could add one more filter, Solved / Not Identified / Both. Going through those one by one to find out percentage of solved issues is quite a job, this would help a lot.

5. add the vehicle type automatically to the wme update request

   this help alot when I want to solve an update request and know what the vehicle type that chosen in the app who makes this report, because some roads only permit specific vehicles

   also you can add other info to the UR automatically, like some app sittings (avoid unpaved road, avoid freeways, avoid difficult intersections)

6. Last Edit

   Track last edit for self as editor in WME and have a link to go there.

   Sometimes WME gets stuck. Requires hard refresh. But if last edit was important and was not complete, where was it. I was too busy to capture a link.

   Would have to be a 2-phase commit. Capture the location for the editor. then attempt the edit save. Otherwise, If it crashes, the last edit would not get recorded.

   Please have a link to go back to last edit on WME load.

7. Propose map changes that I'm not allowed to because of my level

   As a Level 1 Editor, I would like to propose a change in a map where I'm not allowed to so the change is not applied until an editor with the adequate level approves it.

9. Better Display of House Numbers (Edited or Imported)

   Recently the House Number process was changed.

   1. Recommend restoring the last editor's name in the upper left corner if the HN was edited. This used to be displayed until this change.

   2. Recommend that you add a dashed line and color code it to show the status of the HN. There is a script that does this but it would be better to have it native to the WME.

   Four colors on the dashed line from the HN number to the anchor point.

   White - edited by an editor
   Yellow - base import (not edited)
   Orange - edited by an editor and had to be forced (out of sequence)
   Red - base import (not edited and appears that is is out of sequence)

   The out of sequence could be on wrong side of the road, numerically out of sequence, or too far from the road.

   That information is very useful and you don’t have to click on the number to see if it was adjusted and you could easily see if one had been missed.

   Please consider adding this to the native behavior when you add back the editor name if edited.

10. Vehicle Height --> RV

    Many RVs are much taller (and wider) than the typical passenger vehicles. Allowing the user to enter the vehicle height (and width) will assist when traveling as many bridges and roads do not accommodate Motorhomes, Large 5th Wheels / Trailers, etc.

11. Traffic Event closure selection

    When selecting the closures tab, there should be a hierarchy for the default closures displayed. If there are no verified closures (such as when copying a Traffic Event), the list should switch to the Unverified closures list. If there are no verified or unverified closures, the list should default to the failed closures.

12. Add an Option to keep or Removed Wazer icon from URs

    With the new Release, we got a new UR icon design that has the Wazer on it, and i have seen many different opinions about it.
    i think it would be great to have an option to decide how you want your URs to look, either have the Wazer on it or without the Wazer on it. as there is a lot of editors that like the new look, but there are also some that would like to have it as before. so this would solve this problem without removing the new look of the URs.

13. Harmonize poor-road nomenclature to "Poor roads"

    Please harmonize the nomenclature Waze uses for roads that may beat up cars or get them dirty.

    Currently, WME allows marking segments as "unpaved", while the companion feature in the app allows the driver to avoid "dirt". But unpaved and dirt are two different things; for example, many would consider a gravel road to be unpaved, but few would call it dirt. Meanwhile, even some paved roads have such poor surface quality that local drivers might wish to avoid them in favor of better alternatives.

    Since the underlying goal is to allow drivers to avoid roads with poor surface quality, why not harmonize the nomenclature to "Poorly surfaced roads" or just "Poor roads"? Using this nomenclature instead of "unpaved" or "dirt" would better match the goal of the feature, and would encourage local editors to apply the feature in ways that make sense for their road environment and Wazing community.

    Failing that, WME and the app should at least use the same terminology anyway.

14. 3000 modifications to reach level 2 !!

    I am disappointed to have to make 3.000 modifications to reach level 2 ... 25,000 for level 3 and 100,000 for level 4!
    It's a 24 hour job!
    At level 4 approval from the team and local experts is needed ... stupid!
    it's easier to get into the FBI!
    With my 56 edits that I'm so proud of ... I'm ridiculous!

15. Add a comments field to WME when adding a closure

    When adding a closure, I think it would come in handy if there was a comments field (or text box) that could be used to let other editors know, what source was used. If there is a problem/question afterwards, other editors know where to ask for additional info.

    This field should only be visible to editors, no need to show it in the Waze app itself.

    Currenly I use the description field, but that's not so handy.

16. Map Editor - Change level restrictions/level tiers

    Hi,

    Currently many roads cannot be modified by level 1 editors(my case), in some cases you need even level 4 for highways. So when voluntier senior editors cannot be as active as they were in the past the maps are getting less precise time by time, and issues are not fixed/replied as soon as we would like.
    The solution then is to grow our level but... for a level 4 I need 250,000 editions! This number is even more difficult to reach when an area is well completed and the only changes requested are to keep it updated.

    In this situation users can face a decision... keep using the app until the non precise instructions make me throw away the phone by the windows or finding a more precise solution.

    I love waze and use it almost daily, it has been the most precise and rich thanks to users updates, please help users to help waze ;)

    Add the ability for editors to add suite and/or floor numbers for establishments. This feature would be especially useful in NYC and other cities with lots of mixed-use development.

18. Truck restrictions

    I know that in the past this option has been recommended and the staff has rejected it, but I want to approach this question of trucks from another perspective.
    Why not create a restriction for trucks in the permalinks as currently exists for taxis, motorcycles, electric cars etc ... and that in the application for users in the vehicle category, the option "truck" is also created. We as editors mark the permalinks with restrictions for these vehicles and the user who chooses this vehicle option in the application will have a more accurate navigation.

19. Set up an autoreply for the UR message notification mails

    Every so often, we still encounter people who send a reply mail to the UR message notification mails. Sometimes Wazers do this when they're unable to respond in any other way, but usually they just do this out of habit. The mail address itself clearly indicates it shouldn't be used to get a reply (no-reply@waze.com), but in many mail clients mostly the name ("Waze Map Editor") gets shown.

    I'd like to therefore propose the addition of an autoreply mail whenever someone sends a message to the no-reply@waze.com inbox. I know it's ironic to send replies from a mailbox that says "no-reply", but I think it's a better user experience than the current situation.

    I'm aware of the communication improvements being planned between the app and WME, but I don't think this should wait for that improvement. Autoreply mails are a feature in pretty much any mailing system.

20. Prevent the creation of place "my home"

    Many drivers create places called "home", "my house" or any similar name. It takes some time to review/reject the PUR, so it would be great to have something to automatically prevent it : a warning to the user ? a filter to automatically reject the creation ?
